 | | WannaBe: I believe, for the GM Nickel's analysis, and his playing around 'toy', he's got two duo CPU, 4 GB of RAM. I believe he listed what he got a while back, let me see if I can find that post. |

 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> Page 27, he talks about building a server, and he listed what he's using, and it continues to page 29, User: RandomVisitor |
| Oct-29-06 | | Open Defence: <Randomvisitor My primary computer has a dual core pentium D at 3.2GHz with 4GB RAM. My secondary computer has an Athlon 3700+ at 2.4GHz with 2GB RAM. Both systems run Windows x64 and dual boot with windows XP Professional (32-bit)<<>>> |
| Oct-29-06 | | Open Defence: <My newest machine is a Tyan TX46 server with 4 dual-core Opteron 880 processors and 8GB of memory.> that's from his web page whoaaa!!!!!!!! |
Oct-29-06
 | | WannaBe: Yeah, you can do a lot of pay-roll with that machine. |
| Oct-29-06 | | Open Defence: yup... wonder what hardware it will take to run something like Hydra... |
| Oct-29-06 | | Open Defence: I guess 2 GB will be fine as this PC will only be used for chess and I think the max hash table of the current Rybka version is 1GB... then my laptop will be the business machine and my desktop hopefully the lab from which new and frightening chess moves come from.... |

 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> =) |
| Oct-29-06 | | technical draw: What's with all the hardware one upmanship? I've got 2300z"s of Threm, a BLT Server w/D.O.R.K. processor, 15 GB RUM, 48m flewbers, and a portable drif analyser, so there. |
| Oct-30-06 | | Open Defence: hehehe not upmanship... just getting optimum hardware.. so that I'm not left behind in analysis and novelties...I think I might have an edge as I havent used computers much for chess.. so I am more sceptical about evals and try to see what my own moves do... in many of my training games with my Engine (ok its a free Toga II on a 256MB RAM laptop) the engines didnt like my moves and about 10 ply into the line suddenly the engine rates it between +0.10 to -0.10 on the eval... |

 | | WannaBe: Just installed IE7, Total download is about 14 meg, install took about 1-2 minutes, then a reboot. (The install do check for windows authentication. So, if your copy of Windows is one that 'fell off the truck'.... =) During the install, it will ask if you want to query/update your windows system for critical packages, I skipped this step. I have automatic update turned on. So this saved me some time. After the install and reboot, (this is the annoying part) it will ask you to set a search web-site. And it looked like you can't skip it. (I have mine set to google) The IE7 allows multiple tabs/pages in the same browser, much like other web-browsers, what I find annoying, is when I open a new tab, it doesn't open my home page. Maybe I got to spend some time and look at the preferences... The best part, that I have discovered, is this clear text. I can see the graphics and words better and less 'fuzzy'. Man, I got to change my avatar, what an ugly bunny. |
Oct-30-06
 | | WannaBe: Found it, you can choose if the new tab opens to home page, or about:blank page. =) |
| Oct-30-06 | | Open Defence: <Man, I got to change my avatar, what an ugly bunny.> when I got premium membership I was so dissapointed they didnt have Babs' avtaar here :( |

Oct-30-06
 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> No, since it came out, I've really not heard anything 'bad' or 'horrible' about version 7. So I decided to experiment and upgrade. =) And I went to my add/remove program panel, and just saw that I can uninstall IE7. So, if I don't like it, I'll just roll back to the previous version. |
| Oct-30-06 | | Open Defence: <I've really not heard anything 'bad' or 'horrible' about version 7.> so they just took Mozilla and slapped on the IE logo ? |
Oct-30-06
 | | WannaBe: <Open Defence> I know that all previous versions of IE is actually Mosaic, this version, it doesn't say. =) |
