WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: <CIO> LOL. I remember those mems... <chancho> North by Norwest, totally agree, the audiences know that the plane scene was filmed earlier and played on a screen behind. It was still drama. Same thing with the Mt. Rushmore chase scene.

WannaBe: ¡Olé! ¡Olé! this is what I see for "¡Olé! ¡Olé!" (game of the day Mar-13-2026) I also know this issue have been around for a while, and it's not that important, in IT term, it is a level 'C', cosmetic fix. But I just wish to report it again. Can CG.com unify this ...

WannaBe: <FSR> March 11 is his birthday, and usually PoD is chosen from the birth date of the player. So unless CG.com decides to change the algorithm on how PoD is decided. We will randomly get "undesired" player(s).

Jan-14-08  brankat: <WannBe> In last few days a heart breaking story has been developing on pages of <ahmadov>'s and my forum:-)

American media is in a habit of calling this kind of a thing, "a story of human interest". Apparently, only sad and/or tragic ones are of human interest :-)

Here is a Copy/Paste "synopsis":

Jan-10-08 <fictionist> Hello <ahmadov>! I got fired on my cooking job when my boss discovered me having a pocket chess board in the kitchen. :(

Jan-10-08 <ahmadov> <fictionist> That is very sad... But why did he not warn you first before firing you??? By the way, did he found that board impeding you from fulfilling your duties?

It seems you also do not have very good laws protecting employees' rights like in my country...

I see, sometimes chess creates problems in our jobs for many of us...

Jan-11-08 <fictionist> <ahamdov> I only open my pocket chess set every after I finished cooking. I use it for analysing my gameknot games because it's just so boring in the kitchen when you don't have anything to do anymore.when the orders arrived again,i put my set back in my bag.

Jan-12-08 <brankat> <fictionist> Btw, did You get Your job back? I feel somewhat guilty, as I'm sure some other members do, too!

Jan-13-08 <fictionist> Not yet <brankat>. I might as well look for a new one. :(

How can one not commiserate with our fellow chess player?

Who knows, a touch of a Phillipino flavoured cuisine may additionally spice up Your establishment's menu. Not to mention Your Chess training regimen :-)

WannaBe: <brankat> Well, currently, I have a game on GK.com with <fictionist>. But unfortunately, I have a full staff in the kitchen right now. =(

But I do wish him luck in finding a new (line of work) job.

WannaBe: <brankat: <WannaBe> <Have entered into the National Open @ Las Vegas,> National Open in what? Poker? Crib? Jacks? Horse Racing? Roulette? Slot Machines? Chess? All of the above? :-)>

I'm doing a simul at the National Open, after my move on the chess board, I'll go and play a hand of cribbage, then place my bet on the horses, while running back to the chess hall, I'll give the one-armed bandit a quick pull. =)

WannaBe: Well, the news finally got 'released' in a division-wide e-mail, now everyone knows that I'm leaving Thursday.

Boy, are they celebrating...

Jan-14-08  minasina: Hey WannaBe, I remember that you have sometimes helped somebodies with Fritz. Do you know how to change German notation to English? It's question about that: Corus (2008) <virginmind's> post, and <ChessMoron's> reply 2 posts later, and again <virginmind> 2 posts later that.

WannaBe: <minasina> Yes I do... I had the same problem.

Go and log into playchess server (after you register with a handle/password, this is a free year membership with your purchase of the software. Use the activation code on the user's manual to create your free account)

Then do help -> Query Upgrade, and then it should be fine, I don't remember all the exact details, because I did it about a year ago.

Jan-14-08  minasina: Ok, thanks! I try to tell to <virginmind> (no chessforum) there on the Corus-page that here on your chessforum is answer. Hope he'll notice, and hope it helps.
Jan-15-08  virginmind: thanks <WannaBe> and <minasina>, i did try that query upgrade stuff, but to no avail. it told me my programe is up to date but i've noticed no change in the notation. then i did some further inquiery into the programm only to find another option(quite hidden, in my opinion) which let me choose between letter notation and symbolic notation. i've switched to the latter and now, instead of letters, i got the symbols (which should be universal, so anyway better than the germal letters i previously had)

the real surprise was when i tried to paste in here to see if that notation remains symbolic: it was automatially switched to english letters notation! so...all goes well when finishes well!

Jan-15-08  brankat: <WannaBe> I sincerely hope this finds You well :-)

Received a not so brief E-mail from our old friend a few days ago :-) First in a few months. A lengthy discourse on the evils of smoking :-)

It reminded me of a number of friends from this site who, over a period of time, somehow just disappeared :-(

The Emperor, Chopin, Notsodeepthought, Dakgootje. There are probably others, too. And I wonder how have they been doing.

Anyway, just a thought.

May You have a most joyous day. Today and every day!

Cheers mate!

Jan-15-08  Jason72: <WannaBe: Better watch out for Judit, she may very well surprise everyone. I'm rooting for her!>

Yes, let us hope she does well. I think she has it in her. Her dedication to E4 is very interesting.

Jan-15-08  brankat: <admirable> <Her dedication to E4 is very interesting.>

Yes, it is quite admirable. Now it she could just follow it up with <2. Ke2>!

Jan-15-08  Jason72: <brankat> Yes, it is quite admirable. Now it she could just follow it up with <2. Ke2>!

Sadly, I think it will be some time before the subtleties of the WannaBe Gambit are truly appreciated

Jan-15-08  brankat: <Jason72> Just like W.Steinitz, WannaBe is a man 20 years ahead of his time!
Jan-16-08  chesstoplay: Hey WannaBe... I figured out the X-Men: Last Stand movie very, very, very end clip.

Early in the movie, Professor X is giving a lecture on ethics to a class of young students about a video a friend of his sent of a patient in a coma with no brain function.

Xavier asks the question... "Would it be ethical to take over the body of such a person..."

And that is exactly what he clearly did in the clip.

Watch the movie again and you can compare the woman with the coma patient and the woman in the clip at the end and see it is the same woman, Xavier's friend!!

  WannaBe: <chesstoplay> Oui, yes, I know. =)

Funny thing, when I saw it for the first time in a theatre, I walked out when the credits started to roll.

Later, discussing it with a friend of mine, he mentioned the 'ending', so I had to watch it again on DVD...

WannaBe: Need help on this one...

There is an Irish tune/song, I think it's called 'Schelelie Stick'...

Would appreciate the exact title and lyrics.

Much thanks in adv.

WannaBe: Strange day... Woke up at the regular hour, then went back and slept for another hour and half.

Went down to the bar and opened it... Just feels strange not going to my work after 10+ years...

(No, it's not officially mine yet, still waiting for paper works to be done, but I'm getting the hands on 'training'...)

Jan-18-08  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Haven't been following all news on your chessforum! Am I understanding correctly, you switched vocations to owner of a bar?!
Jan-18-08

WannaBe: <suenteus po 147> I guess one might say that... Just waiting for the official paperworks to be finished.

Have already gotten used to the Point of Sales system (POS) and I have the keys to the doors. Worked 3 partial shifts already, getting used to be back on the 'other' side of the bar, have scheduled myself shifts down there.

I did my exit-interview yesterday with my work place, and now, no more computer questions on my forum, also, there is a 2 drinks minimum to post here. =)

Jan-19-08  brankat: <WannaBe> So did they have a celebration at Your old workplace? :-)
Jan-19-08
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: <brankat> Yes, but they held the celebration after I walked out the door. =)

No, seriously, they all offered to go out for lunch, but I declined, instead I went to lunch with my first manager, who also happened to be my interviewer when I applied for the job!

He is also coming down to the pub on Sunday to watch the NFL games, and to check the place out.

Once it's all settled, and done, my ex-co-workers are coming down to see my place, and then hold a little celebration. =)
