And <POOF> it's gone.> I, too have never comprehended the infatuation of so many with crypto--it seems rather nebulous from my angle. Let the fate of FTX, and particularly the above, be a cautionary tale. |

 | | WannaBe: <TD> Yeah, this will be her (and husband's) second child, she was very intimate with the Indian guy, can't think of his name right now, the CEO or the President or whatever of Theranos. (Daddy syndrome?) His sentencing is coming up too. Secretly got married and gave birth before the trial began, and now a second child. Waddamess, just waddamess.
Here is a quick background on how I started following this company/E. Holmes. There was an article, maybe SFGate.com or something, that was <TOUTING> how a Stanford dropout was going to revolutionize the <MEDICAL> field. Now, I am in I.T. and know those guys started in their garage with pretty much off the shelf equipment and build their geek stuff. But that was a relatively 'new' field. Sure, the government and big bidnesses had computers, but it took up a whole floor and cost Millions of dollars, even in the 60s or 70s or 80s. Personal computers and computing at 'cheap' cost? Fogettaboutit!! To get into medical field/equipment, there are tons and tons and tons of hurdle. And you are telling me this drop-out (undergrad, not even grad or Ph.D. program like some other I.T. companies founders, Google and that Sergei guy immediately come to mind) So I started following all the stories and the Theranos company. |

Nov-20-22 | | technical draw: Elizabeth Holmes started wearing turtle necks because Steve Jobs wore them. She also practiced speaking in a husky voice because she thought that would make her sound "in charge". She was a fake all the way. |

 | | perfidious: After fulfilling her Oedipal desires, Holmes went the other way--baby daddy is some years younger than she. As <td> said, sounds phoney all the way. (with apologies to the late <PB>, a class act if there ever was one) |
|
Nov-20-22 | | technical draw: Elizabeth Holmes is an interesting case. She did not run a Ponzi scheme in the traditional sense but she did promise that her machine, the Edison Machine, would deliver results that she knew it would not. So as investors poured money into Theranos she would use this money to try to get the machine working after she knew it was an engineering impossibility. That's fraud, plain and simple. Her 11 year sentence will probably be reduced on appeal. |
|
Nov-20-22
 | | perfidious: Sounds like clear-cut fraud from here, but I am sure Holmes will play the victim role to the hilt and, as you say, have her sentence reduced on compassionate grounds. Pity she appears to possess none of that quality, and doubtless has not a care for those lives this has affected. |
|
Nov-20-22 | | technical draw: Don't feel too sorry for Holmes. She married into a prominent (read rich) San Diego hospitality family. I guess she really has a gift (gift of the gab that is). |

Nov-20-22 | | diceman: <<<WannaBe: Interesting time we are in <Mastercard, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and Others Launch 12-Week Digital Dollar Pilot Program with New York Fed> <Members of the U.S. banking community today announced the launch of a proof of concept (PoC) project that will explore the feasibility of an interoperable digital money platform known as the regulated liability network (RLN). Using distributed ledger technology, the proposed platform would create innovation opportunities to improve financial settlements and would include participation from central banks, commercial banks of various sizes and regulated non-banks.The 12-week PoC will test a version of the RLN design that operates exclusively in U.S. dollars where commercial banks issue simulated digital money or “tokens” – representing the deposits of their own customers – and settle through simulated central bank reserves on a shared multi-entity distributed ledger. The PoC will also test the feasibility of a programmable digital money design that is potentially extensible to other digital assets, as well as the viability of the proposed system within existing laws and regulations.> > >Washington: Now when the <little people>

 | | WannaBe: Stage 2 of my "Crazy Money Experiment" have started (Monday, 11/21, or for anyone non-US, 21/11) and will continue until the end of December. This is a test done on a weekly basis, and we will see how it goes. (I know <OCF> will ask what it is, and I <PROMISE>, I will post all the details come Jan. 2023) Stage 1 is complete, and the results are very acceptable. Not good or great or super great, but needs assistance. Hence, stage 2. (Imagine an Apollo rocket, you need stages to get it off the ground...) |

 | | WannaBe: Stage 2, "Crazy Money Experiment" Sold QQQ Covered Call, made $150 and change in 3 days. Bought 100 shares of QQQ on Monday 11/21; $282 and change per share, sold Wednesday $285 call, collected premiums. At the end of Wednesday's market, QQQ closed at $288+ and of course, my 100 shares were called/assigned. So, what is the crazy idea? <Buy the shares on margin>. Current margin loan rate (varies by amount borrowed, the more you borrow, the lower the rate) is about 12% annual. Or about $241 if you borrow $28.2K a month. (I use Chucky Schwab...) Now, why would I do this Crazy Experiment? SPY/QQQ and a few other ETFs have <DAILY> option trading. Now options is on the "Books" T+1 (meaning a business day after the trade is opened), and Stocks are T+2. (This is also why there is an ex-dividend date and record date and pay date for stocks) Here is the kicker... I can sell QQQ Covered Calls, utilizing margin, about 5 or 6 times a month, and each trade will get me approx $140-$150 for 3 days. This is done to make sure the trades are "On the Books". End Part I. |
|
Nov-25-22
 | | WannaBe: So what is the worst case scenario? QQQ goes down, way down. Yes, I can still sell Covered Call 3 days out and get the return; <BUT>!!! You will be selling the calls below what you paid for, and if assigned, you <WILL LOSE MONEY>. Looking at the price (history) of QQQ and SPY, selling Covered Call at 2 or 3 OTM is fairly safe. Meaning if QQQ is trading at $288 (as of today) and you buy 100 shares (in my case on margin/loan) and sell $290 call, expiring Tuesday 11/28, you will collect the premium. (probably around $1.50, will know for sure tomorrow when market opens) End Part II |
|
Nov-25-22
 | | WannaBe: So, you got assigned, and 'lost' the 100 shares, but you gained the price difference between $282 and the strike price $285 = $2 and change. But you also collected premium of 1.50, which means you net around $3.50 per share and options are always in multiple of 100s (This is in 3 days) Do you really care that you lost out on the "loss" of $3 and change? ($388-$385 strike price). No, I don't. There was a time (when younger) that value investing was the the right move, now (much older) it is about <INCOME STREAM> and also not having to work. Another thing to look out for, is if SPY/QQQ (x100 shares) blow past your margin account's amount, and then this would not work. But in the mean time, you should have built up some reserves for this scenario. Worst case scenario:
1. You keep borrowing money for $240 interest a month, but get $600 or close to $700+ every 4 weeks. And eventually you will own 100 shares of QQQ/SPY (for free) 2. QQQ/SPY goes down (hello 2023 recession) and you sell covered call and eventually own 100 shares for "free". 2a. If you are selling calls below your average cost basis, and are close to being assigned/called. Roll up and Out. Get yourself a (little) credit on the trade. So, here is the final kicker (if you read all what I have posted), I have enough in XYLD/JEPI that monthly dividend will pay for my living cost, I will use SEPP/72(t) to retire Dec 30 2022. And use my Crazy Money Experiment for extra $$$. (Inflation protection) Worst case scenario, I'll be your local Wal-Mart greeter. Now, if I can figure out if 16. Rae1 is better than 16. Rfe1. Especially when I am playing poker. |

Nov-26-22
 | | WannaBe: My play today, buy 100 shares of QQQ @ $287.38 and sold one covered call strike price $289.00 expiring Tuesday 11/29. (done on margin account) Selling covered calls on QQQ two day to expire. So next Wednesday 30th morning, I'll sell Friday expiration call. $289 is two over the At The Money (ATM) strike (you have the current trading price of $287 and change, then the next up on the option 'chain' is $288 and $289)... Collected $128 in premiums.
If it is called, great, I get the $128 premium and then the 'profit' of $163 because it went over the strike price. If it is <NOT> called, I will rinse and repeat this process. Now, again, the downside is, if QQQ takes a (really big) hit and then the premium collected will <NOT> cover your margin interest payment. (or make any profit, obviously...) |
