alexmagnus: <DeltaHawk (on Magnus Carlsen's page): The point of chess is to take advantage of those blunders and convert them into wins>. Hehe that applies to my tournament games, both won and lost. It's quite interesting how one-sided they all were, the first to blunder was also the one to lose, despite us being pretty low rated:)

alexmagnus: Lol the FIDE site "colour percentage" feature seems to strike when it comes to players who have only few games... I just looked up myself (I played only 2 FIDE-rated games, one white win and one black loss). And what do I see?

http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

So, according to the site, I played 21 games... That's even more than my number of tournament games at all :). I wonder where that statistics come from (the only true thing about which is the fact I never played draw).

alexmagnus: Anyway, maybe when the next list comes and I see the results, it will become clearer...
May-31-08  sallom89: hey there, i guess u got toomuch info on playchess.com ;)

I just have a question in mind, i'm like 5 login days away from my Rook rank , and it says i need 2300 bullet rating.. i guess i did read somewhere on the site (help section maybe) that u need to get a certain rating in a category u are better in, and some how my slow is 1700+ and bullet went from 1500 to 1200.. is it possible to change anything ? for example to get my rook rank by slow ?

i know its not possible for me to get 2300 bullet, many thanks in advance :-)

alexmagnus: You have to get 2300 in any descipline. But 2300 slow is even harder to achieve than 2300 bullet - slow ratings above 2150 are extremely hard to hold. Look at the best players list in slow games, only 5 players have 2300+.... It's generally so that somewhere from 1800 on slow ratings are lower than blitz/bullet and not higher as in the "patzer range" (I myself am in the "patzer range" with ~1400 blitz and ~1600 slow).

Jun-01-08  zoat22: haha lol stop exaggerating... anyway, my handle on playchess.com is the same as my name on here, so I can tlak to you on there.
Jun-02-08  timhortons: alex do you think its easier to ballon the rating at playchess.com compared to icc?playchess rating much more inflated?
Jun-02-08  zoat22: i disagree... the ratings are about comparable.
Jun-02-08  timhortons: at playchess 1 minute i level off at 1400, thats something i cant do at icc, after more than 200 games i plateaud at 1444, little bit up and down sometimes, why cant i reach same rating at icc after 2 years of playing?

alexmagnus: <playchess/ICC ratings> Depends on one's playing level. In low ranges ICC ratings are heavily deflated in comparison to playchess(as beginner I had 592 on ICC and 939 on playchess, now I am ~1200 on ICC and ~1400 on playchess). Somewhere beween 1600 and 2000 they are comparable, then the ICC ratings grow somewhat higher....
Jun-03-08  timhortons: alex what i observed is that in 1200 and 1300 elo strentgh at playchess is easy to beat, i just cant go past 1450 because when im match against 1600 and 1700 level im lossing more than im winning.

after string of losses at 1700 field, they paired you 3x to 900, few times to 1200, few times to 1350, after you roll the field and go back to 1450 they pair you to 1600 and up rating and the cycle would return

Jun-03-08  zoat22: The playchess.com 1 minute level, and probably even 3 minute is deflated over 2000....

alexmagnus: <The playchess.com 1 minute level, and probably even 3 minute is deflated over 2000....> Depends on what you compare it to. In comparison to ICC ratings, yes, in comparison to FIDE ratings it's other way around.

<what i observed is that in 1200 and 1300 elo strentgh at playchess is easy to beat, i just cant go past 1450 because when im match against 1600 and 1700 level im lossing more than im winning.> Looks like you level is about the same as mine. I beat 1200s in nearly 100% of games but am myself always somewhere between 1350 and 1450 (with a record around 1540) because of losing most games to 1600-1700s.

As for (official) tournaments on playchess, I mostly gain rating if I participate. My typical score is 2.5/7 or 3-3.5/9, but those 2-3 wins compensate all the losses because the opponents I lose to are rated around 1700-1800.

Jun-03-08  zoat22: <Alexmagnus> compared to FIDE ratings, yes it is inflated, or else we would not have 3000 + ratings :) compared to ICC I also agree that it is deflated.
Jun-04-08  metatron2: <My favourite players are: Magnus Carlsen, Kateryna Lahno and Hanna Marie Klek!>

alexmagnus, any particular reason why this girl is on your favorite players list? is she in your chess club or something?

Jun-05-08

alexmagnus: You mean Hanna Marie Klek? Not really at my club. I met her co-trainer (who introduced her to me and was her main coach back then) online when she was playing chess only for 2 months, in early 2005. Back then he wanted to play a test game between her and me (it didn't come to it; one year later I was already too weak to have any chance vs. her). I followed her games first just as a neutral observer, but after she came second on the German U10 championship 2005 - the way she did it, showing she could beat much stroinger players already and fighting back some lost positions to a win (and especially one lost game, Kaphle-Klek 2005) made me to her fan. I watched each big tournament with her participation after it. And she progressed very fast (not as fast as Carlsen, but well, her development year after year was 900->1600->1800->~2000), winning her age category each year after it (2008 she played in the U14 undefeated, with 7 wins and 2 draws). I also somewhat like her playing style, though have no exact words to describe it.

So there is more than one reason.

Jun-05-08  metatron2: <You mean Hanna Marie Klek?> yes of course.

<I followed her games first just as a neutral observer> you mean you actually visited her tournaments to follow her play? (i guess her tournaments weren't broadcasted online)

Jun-05-08
Premium Chessgames Member
alexmagnus: <metatron> I live too far to follow her tournaments. Games of some of her first tournaments before that German championship were available on the sites of the tournaments if there were some. Some games I found thank (maybe even unwilled) "hints" of her trainer and some tournaments (like German/World Youth Championship) were actually broadcasted online, so at least twice a year I could be sure to see her tournaments completely:)

I saw her live only once, at the Women's European Championship 2007 in Dresden (I actually came to Dresden back then specially to see her and Lahno - with a VIP ticket to be able to come as close to the boards as possible).

Jun-07-08  metatron2: <Games of some of her first tournaments before that German championship were available on the sites of the tournaments> interesting that they actually publish games in that level (elo < 1800), nice of them anyways.

anyways, thx for your detailed clarifications.
