Tabanus: http://live.chessbase.com/games/NOR... and (as a member?) https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/201..., if that helps (and chess24 you can't use), + evt. TWIC later, but I think we don't deserve much more effort.

Annie K.: So... I read the title "Xtracon", and first thing I think is "Extra cons? What, does this involve politicians or something?"

Then I see the event used to be called Politiken Cup. Oh... yep. :s

<WinKing: <Also, don't forget about <chessgames> ChessBookie game for this event. She can't wait to take some or all of your chessbucks. ;)>>

Well, I could wait, but people complain if payouts are not prompt. ;p

Annie K.: ComicCon is for comics. TrekCon is for Star Trek fans...

Xtracon is for... extras? Extra whats? Extra cons is as good a guess as any. :p

Besides, that logic is a bit iffy - see:
Olive oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, sesame oil... baby oil? ;)

chessgames.com: Thanks to <Tab> for cleaning up that PGN, the tournament is here: Norwegian Championship (2017). Kudos to Jon Ludvig Hammer.

Tabanus: I could not resist doing it. It took me 3-4 hours.

Thanks CG. The pgn's from the organizers are not always perfect, which I'll try to remember next time.

chessgames.com: It's hard to criticize them for using their own alphabet. But for legacy reasons PGN technically demands pure latin characters. No surprise, since the standard was written before Unicode was invented. Perhaps a revised PGN is in order, but meanwhile we'll just keep turning ø into o and ü into ue, etc. but we're also looking into a workaround.
Jul-31-17 Alien Math: <Xtracon is for> via https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xtrac...

The main sponsor is now Xtracon A/S, a Danish IT company with a chess playing owner. Accordingly, the tournament has been renamed to reflect the change

Jul-31-17 zanzibar: Under-employed movie actors/actresses with programming skills = Xtracon.

Tabanus: Hi chessmoron, we know that, but 99% of the visitors/viewers don't.

Hmm, I deleted the wrong post, here it is again: Hi CG, I think you forgot to make a standings table for the Norwegian Championship (2017). And also for the Maotai Prince Cup Kings (2009)

Tabanus: CG, will you update the Chinese Championships (2017) and Chinese Championships (Women) (2017)? Both had 11 rounds (you have 10), and the 66 games x 2 are now in TWIC: http://theweekinchess.com/chessnews.... I can try to edit afterwards. if necessary.

Tabanus: CG, you're welcome. To torment you further, consider the World Blitz Championship (Women) (2016) and Swisses in general: why 29 (instead of 30) players? Anyway, it says <34 players total> (right) and <6 players not shown> but only 5 players are not shown.

chessgames.com: <<6 players not shown> but only 5 players are not shown> That's probably an OBOB (off-by-one-bug) and exists on all similar cross tables. Or have you only determined it exists on this one page? I'll have to look at the code again.

chessgames.com: On another topic, I want to replace our little graphics we've styled to represent annotation symbols. For example +/- means that White has an advantage.

Looking online for Unicode etc. I've learned I can use ± entity to get ±, and Unicode ⩱ shows up as ⩱ and ⩲ shows up as ⩲. Cool! I thought it was going to be a simple matter to get rid of the graphics and insert the modern extended characters.

But the problem is, where are -/+ or +- or -+? I have a hunch the symbols like ⩲ have some mathematical uses and were inserted for those reasons only, therefore the symbols employed only in chess analysis are not fully covered.

I think we're going to call a moratorium on the insert-little-graphic methods. If we have to just type -/+ or =/+ that should suffice. Inserting little graphics into text was a useful technique from 1995-2005 but these days it creates more problems than it solves.

Tabanus: <Or have you only determined it exists on this one page?>

I think it's on all such pages. The <players not shown> are always given as one too many. No big deal, but perhaps easy to fix.

chessgames.com: <zanzibar> Bless you! Exactly what I was looking for.

<Tab> I found the source of the bug, the classic situation you get when an array of 30 players ends with #29 (because it starts with #0). Should work now. Thanks, that was a subtle one that might have gone unnoticed for ages.

 chessgames.com: Testing:

⩲ ⩱ ± ∓

Nice! I wish the ± and ∓ looked more similar; my machine shows them rendered in a different style. Almost as if the ± is actually a Chinese glyph that coincidentally looks like what we want.

For +- and -+ I don't think we need a special character; we can just shove the two characters together.

WannaBe: Yeah, that ± looks like the middle character in my name. =))
