| Oct-20-17 | | whiteshark: <chessgames> It seems that for some reason rd 13-15 games of Bundesliga (2016/17) are still missing. Here's the DL-link: http://schachbundesliga.de/sites/de... = =
btw <Bundesliga 2017/18> will start tomorrow... ;) |

| Oct-21-17 | | thegoodanarchist: < chessgames.com: It's official, we just opened up voting to the next Team Game that will start on November 1st. It is a kind of hybrid between the Battle of the Brains and the Thematic Challenge.> So the title of this activity is obvious:
Battle of the Challenged Brains |

 | | chessgames.com: OK, a few things:
Mobile ads now gone on mobiles (if you are signed in). Bundesliga (2016/17) should now be updated. We have the Ivanchuk - Wei Yi (2017) and Van Foreest - Adhiban (2017) matches on the homepage. Also we're working on Olga, our fix for Apple iOS issues created a landslide of new issues for Android users. We're working on it. |

 | | offramp: I thought someone else might have mentioned this... I can't be the only one to have noticed that on the front page the Game of the Day reads
<"The Turk
vs
NN
Nobody's Business But the Turk's">.
But the link leads to Mephisto vs NN, 1770, which in any case should be 1883. Apart from the wrong link, players, date and meaningless pun, it's all superb. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Apart from the wrong link, players, date and meaningless pun, it's all superb.> Heh. Is it really 1783? Somebody should alert Sargon with the citation. We can at least fix that much. No sense in worrying about the rest, with only 45 minutes left until the next botch-up. |

| Oct-27-17 | | Benzol: <chessgames> You have all the available games from the 8th Asian veterans and senior championships won by GM Eugenio Torre and IM Lodhi Mahmood respectively sitting in the games queue. When are likely to see them appear? |
|
Oct-27-17
 | | Richard Taylor: Benzol I would rather some of mine didn't appear! I'm hoping cg.com don't load them all up except over a certain level, or selectively...the bye I got was perhaps my best game! Lodhi though got a GM title, as his rating had been over 2500 or whatever is required...Pakistan's first GM I believe. |
|
Oct-27-17
 | | chessgames.com: <Benzol> I'm sorry, we have neglected the queue (mostly) for some time, I'll check it out. <Richard> If you really want your record scrubbed from that I'll be happy to do it for you, unless you had the (mis)fortune of being paired with one of the leaders. |

 | | Richard Taylor: <chessgames> Thanks for that offer. I suppose the games I lost are instructive in a way. One game I blundered by putting a N in between a R and a pawn...which I suppose is not just a "senior" moment altho...and the other I sacrificed (it was a blunder in a basically won position for me) quickly and impulsively against Bill Lynn but his opening is interesting and up to there the way I handled an unusual line in the Closed was good. The first game I played badly but that is all fair and square....no put them all up as I believe that in the 50+ Johansen who in the past has been a strong GM blundered with a well known mistake... No, put it all up: my best game was an Alekhine's Defense, which was a draw (but exciting because of the time factor and tactics by both sides), and a win against Tony Booth. My first game was "historic" as I and my opponent Nigel Cooper hadn't played since 1960 at the national (junior) champs... Cringable (a word?) but there it is, the reality of chess, this fascinating but damnable game.... It was interesting to see Eugenio Torre who seemed a nice enough fellow and quite trim and fit looking for his age range...His way of winning in 'harmless' looking positions was instructive to see. I think I sometimes play better against stronger players. I essayed (at my club) the Polugaevsky against NZ's strongest active player Ben Hague and nearly won a month or so ago....But such is life. So had I won or drawn more I may have done better as losing to Torre etc or Ewen Green would have been no problem rating wise, if I am counting rating points... So load them up, warts and all. |

<Richard> If you really want your record scrubbed from that I'll be happy to do it for you, unless you had the (mis)fortune of being paired with one of the leaders.> I think that on balance, unless it was one of the leaders, none of my games are any good. You want games that have some interest and there are too many quite bad errors even in the games I won and in the three I lost have quite stupid blunders in and will teach or entertain no one anything. So if you can, please leave my games out. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Cringable (a word?)> I think the internet has settled on "cringe-worthy." We usually screen out lower-rated players anyhow, let us just do our thing and if you have a skipped-game that you want inserted let me know. We assume that if a player wants a game uploaded it must have some merit. |

| Oct-29-17 | | Dr Winston OBoogie: How is it possible that when I login to the site and see advertisements they're advertising the <exact> same hotel I stay on my holidays and the <exact> same pair of Adidas Porsche trainers I bought 3 pairs of?? How do advertisers know to use these adverts when I'm using a different handset and browser?? This site can't possibly keep your private information safe, there's no way on earth I should be seeing those advertisments. Lots of Nibble NOBBLERS as <posoo> would say. |

 | | chessgames.com: It's because you're signed into some social media site like Facebook or Google on your brand new device, and the ad network knows that you're the same person who recently bought shoes. BTW, premium members see virtually no ads whatsoever for only 8 cent a day. |

I never knew they(google?) kept info on that level. I use apps for social media and a browser for everything else so without facebook and twitter they wouldn't have the information? <BTW, premium members see virtually no ads whatsoever for only 8 cent a day.> I'd pay treble if you treated <everyone> equally. Anyways I'm not trying to start an argument and I'll take that info on board :) |

 | | Richard Taylor: <cg.com> Yes. Unless I presume you know of a member who has played a really good game it is a good policy. So when I drew against FM Ben Hague who probably plays mostly at a +2400 performance rating or + 2300 in any case, and got a draw, the game wasn't trivial, it was a great game by me, considering my opponent as I had to hold on to a relatively weak position then I found tactic, then I had to defend and I attacked. My point being not to boast but that that game had interest, whereas even my wins in the seniors, with perhaps one exception, were not worth it and thus your policy works. I was in the Veterans and I have to say I sometimes wonder if I get these random 'senior moments'. But then Torre, younger a bit, seemed not to get them, so maybe it was a question not of age but attitude going into the comp. The Seniors had some good players but I only really saw some of the significant games. In fact the George Trundle, which I wasn't in, seemed to have more interesting games. But again, in both tournaments, both with GMs etc there were so many games. I will leave things in your hands, of course. |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> In the newly finished Chigorin Memorial (2017), the last round draw between the winner Alekseenko and no. 2 Paravyan is not in yet. Why? As some players have their 9 games already. One game missing also between no. 6 Moiseenko and no. 17 Pridorozhni (rd. 8). |
|
Oct-30-17
 | | chessgames.com: <Tabanus> It was the database trying to defend itself against duplicates. It turned out those GM draws were played move-for-move earlier this year. I investigated a few other players with only 8 games but they seem to either have received BYEs or the site simply doesn't have their game. So right now it's about as good as we can get it. Thanks for pointing that out. |
|

 | | Tabanus: <CG> Thanks. Good to know! No big deal then if a game is missing. |

| Oct-30-17 | | alan517: Hi, I just started using the Analysis Laboratory and I have 2 questions. Is there a way to play the Stockfish analysis moves? Also, can games from Chessbase be imported to the A.L. Am I correct in thinking that FEN and PGN could be imported from Chessbase? Thanks for your help. |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> The Chinese Teams Championship (2016) and Chinese Team Championship (2016) should be merged. Same event, played in Shenzhen (and other locations?) 12 April - 5 December. Similar to Bundesliga, but no sharks to keep you informed. |

Oct-31-17
 | | Tabanus: And "Chinese Chess League" would be a better name IMO (both for 2016 and 2017). (It's an event with several legs.) Chigorin Memorial (2017), front page says Oct 21-20, should be Oct 21-29. |
|
Oct-31-17
 | | chessgames.com: <Bobby Fiske> I wrote a rebuttal to that piece, as I believe it was in many ways disingenuous, and even secured a promise from Chess Cafe that it would be as prominently featured as the original. But when I found that it was pulled from their archives entirely it hardly seemed worth replying. |

 | | OhioChessFan: As one glaring inconsistency, Urcan objects to player pages with photos not in the public domain, and also objects to player pages without photos-never mind there are surely some to be found, but not in the public domain. Truly awful prose, but he makes up in words used what he lacks in logic. 1. Why not post your rebuttal on Urcan's player page? 2. Would it be fair use for me to quote and respond to each point Urcan made on his player page? |
