chessgames.com: You're right, it was a bug where it counted your wins from last year. We just fixed it. Go ahead and claim your prize.

Very well done by the way, we thought that was a very obscure clue, but our members never fail to amaze us.

Domdaniel: Thanks guys. Fast work - from both of us, I suppose.

It may be my fault for using last year's 'lucky' laptop ...

But I got back in time. Cheers.

Dec-11-09  Red October: give us a freaking accounting or financial analysis clue.. or rock bands.. yeah rock bands..

chessgames.com: I don't think we have any financial accounting clues, but if you want clues with <rock bands> you might just be in luck this year ;-)
Dec-11-09  dakgootje: <give us a freaking accounting or financial analysis clue.. or rock bands.. yeah rock bands..>

Orrrr make the clues so that just the very moment I click on some cg-page, there is a new clue to be solved! That would be good... ;)

Domdaniel: <CG> Great work: I never expected it sorted in real time; I was just hoping to leave a message on the record. Thanks.

I like the alert that flashes up when there's a new/unsolved clue -- does it appear on all CG pages? I wouldn't want to be anywhere too obscure...

chessgames.com: <does it appear on all CG pages?> There are a couple of exceptions, namely any static page that ends in .html such as Chessgames Help and (ironically) the official rules to the Chessgames.com Holiday Present Hunt. Any other page, e.g. a game page, player page, tournament page, search results, etc. will will show the alert. Even in the middle of a round of Guess-the-Move you'll see it. And by the way, the homepage shows the alert, even if you access it via "index.html".

chessgames.com: <I never expected it sorted in real time> We were lucky to be online when the clue was released. Glad it all worked out.
Dec-12-09  Oliphaunt: ChessGames.com Statistics Page

Lucena on the elo list hmm?

Dec-12-09  whiteshark: <Oliphaunt> chessgames.com responded to a similar question of mine at the <Aug-15-09>. :D
Dec-12-09  Oliphaunt: Yeah, it must've been quite an achievement of Lucena to obtain an elo rating hundreds of years before Arpad Elo was born.

Tabanus: <cg> Thanks for merging Li and Ly Genova into Lyubka Genova (15 games). I started writing a bio, only to discover that before marriage to Petar Genov she is also represented as Ljubka Georgieva (41 games), Giorgeva Liubka (1 game), and Li Georgieva (1 game).

These are all her, no doubt. She was Bulgarian champion 2005 with the name <Liubka Georgieva-Genova>. I guess the spelling <Lyubka Genova> would be OK with her - this is the name she uses herself, as designer of the site http://g.1asphost.com/lyucy/.

Probably I'm bothering you too much, but at least I'll be gone the two last weeks of December!

Tabanus: <Domdaniel> Hoho. As a gift to the married ones, I have decided to accept TWO player pages for one person, as

Lyubka Genova and Ljubka Georgieva.

Dec-12-09  MostlyAverageJoe: <Oliphaunt: ChessGames.com Statistics Page Lucena on the elo list hmm?>

Not only that, but his rating is wrong. According to this game: NN vs Lucena, 1497, it was NN with the 2720 rating. Lucena had only 2684, so the black win was an upset :-)

Dec-12-09  MostlyAverageJoe: Hey, CG, you have a bad link here: Chessgames Present Hunt Clues Page -- the "2008 Holiday Present Hunt" links to 2007.

BTW, it would be cool if you timestamped each clue release and the discovery (or maybe just show how long it took between these events).

It would be also neat if the person that discovers the prize had an option to refuse it -- this would be useful to keep under the 5-prize limit and keep hunting for a better prize.

Dec-12-09  DCP23: <MostlyAverageJoe: BTW, it would be cool if you timestamped each clue release and the discovery (or maybe just show how long it took between these events).>

Great idea! And a special prize to the person who solved a clue in record time ;)

Dec-12-09  MostlyAverageJoe: <DCP23> Thanks for the support. I did not dare to suggest it myself :-).

However, it would be probably more deserving to give a special prize to the solver of the clue that turns out to be the longest-lasting -- and therefore most difficult.

Dec-13-09  Red October: Viswanathan Anand

<Anand became only the fourth player ever to crack the 2800-Elo mark in FIDE ratings, following Kasparov, <Santa>, and Veselin Topalov.>

looks like that brief admin moment resulted in some minor grafitti :)

Dec-13-09  Hesam7: <CG.com> could you add the photo here: http://www.londonchessclassic.com/f... to Tal vs Korchnoi, 1957? It is more than 50 years old so there should not be any ownership disputes, right?
Dec-13-09  Red October: my Burros do not approve of your latest clue, so much so that they refuse to help me decipher it :(
Dec-13-09  dakgootje: <<Anand became only the fourth player ever to crack the 2800-Elo mark in FIDE ratings, following Kasparov, <Santa>, and Veselin Topalov.>>

I thought the Amp-can was the second to get to 2800... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRjc...

chessgames.com: <It is more than 50 years old so there should not be any ownership disputes, right?> Actually the cutoff year is 1923, but the good news is that this photo was probably taken by a USSR photographer, and it is generally accepted that all photos copyrighted under the old Soviet Union are now public domain.

<looks like that brief admin moment resulted in some minor grafitti :)> We're rather hoping that the volunteer player-biographers clean this stuff up without our help. Of course we could do it too, but we like to believe the system is self-correcting akin to Wikipedia; and this is a test.

Dec-13-09  Blunderdome: There is a typo on the chessbookie page -- "fist move" instead of "first move" in Carlsen-Adams.
