| Dec-14-09 | | technical draw: In the clues game can we still use the "See a Random Game" feature to find a prize or have they been deleted form the random game feature. I'm wearing my mouse out and I'm not even hitting the claimed prizes.?? |

Use "vs" as in "Kasprov vs Kasparov" (not "Karpov Kasparov")> Double typo? |

| Dec-14-09 | | Eyal: <<CG>, the 4th classical game between Gelfand and Ponomariov was not uploaded.> Indeed - also, I happened to notice that the 2nd game (Gelfand vs Ponomariov, 2009) is mistakenly marked as 7.1 |

 | | Tabanus: <cg> Unifying Karl Roehrl, K Roehrl and Karl Rohrl will get the Austrian champion 1969 and 1971 <Karl Röhrl> on one page. He's still playing (e. g. in Austrian Landesliga 2009). |
|
| Dec-15-09 | | MostlyAverageJoe: Hey, CG, while the "There is a clue unsolved right now on the Holiday Contest Clues Page!" is great, it seems to me that it would be useful to add the number of the latest unsolved clue to the banner. E.g., it could read "There is a clue #20 unsolved right now on the Holiday Contest Clues Page!", changing to "There is a clue #23 unsolved right now on the Holiday Contest Clues Page!" when the next clue comes out. As is, the goal of reducing the re-loads of Chessgames Present Hunt Clues Page is not fully achieved. |

 | | chessgames.com: There's no need to refresh--when there is a second clue available, it says "There are 2 unsolved clues..." You just probably haven't noticed because you have to be very lucky to see that elusive message. |

| Dec-15-09 | | DCP23: From the Santa Claus page: <Due to the generosity of anonymous members, at least 20 premium accounts will be given away in this year's "Dear Santa" drawing. To this amount, Chessgames has donated three more, for a total of thirteen (23) free accounts.> 20 + 3 = 13 ? |

 | | Annie K.: :D ...and then there's the Present hunt page intro: <INTRODUCTION
Between December 10th and December 25th, 2009, Chessgames.com will be sponsoring the <second> annual Chessgames Holiday Present Hunt.> But we're not complaining or anything. ;) |

 | | sleepyirv: For the Pun Submission feature, have you considered editing puns that could be approved or apply them to more appropriate games? I understand why you wouldn't do that for the contest, but shouldn't be as important now. |

| Dec-16-09 | | whatthefat: <chessgames.com>
Now here's an unusual bug. In the Opening Explorer, in the position after <1. d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 4.cxd5 cxd4 5.Qxd4 Nc6 6.Qd1 exd5 7.Qxd5 Be6 8.Qxd8+ Rxd8 9.e3 Nb4> Opening Explorer The move 10.Bb5+ (the only move played here) is not marked as a check! Yet strangely enough, all 5 games from this position have the move correctly labeled in their PGNs. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <whatthefat: The move 10.Bb5+ (the only move played here) is not marked as a check! Yet strangely enough, all 5 games from this position have the move correctly labeled in their PGNs.> In fact, they do not. The PGN of N Legky vs Bronstein, 1996 doesn't indicate this (or indeed any) check. Don't be misled by Chess Viewer Deluxe automatically correcting for missing + or # signs. |
|
| Dec-16-09 | | whatthefat: <SwitchingQuylthulg> Interesting, I didn't realise that. |
|
Dec-16-09
 | | chessgames.com: We fixed Legky vs Bronstein, 1996 and the problem seemed to go away. |

| Dec-16-09 | | RonB52734: cg: One of the helpful tips that shows up beneath a game board is this: "TIP: As you play through the game, you can get the FEN code for any position by right-clicking on the board and choosing 'Copy Position (EPD)"' Copy and paste the FEN into a post to display a diagram." This apparently is not true for the sjkbase viewer, which remains my favorite for reasons I remembered more clearly when I was younger. (For one thing, it's easier to conceal daily puzzle answers from my prying eyes.) It might be beneficial to say "TIP: As you play through the game in Chess Viewer Deluxe, you can get the FEN code for any position by right-clicking on the board and choosing 'Copy Position (EPD)'. Copy and paste the FEN into a post to display a diagram. While I'm here, thanks for the link about stereograms on the Holiday Hunt page. Their advice on viewing *finally* after all these years let me "see" one of those things working. Very cool. Happy holidays, you guys. |

Dec-17-09
 | | Annie K.: Oh yeah, I've been meaning to thank you guys (<cg.com> that is) for the stereogram site link too - I've been playing with them ever since! =) Also, this was the first time I actually managed to find what I'm supposed to be seeing in them too; but I got the idea without reading the explanation there - apparently it just took the application of some incentive, erm, like one being a clue?! This is all very educational, I must say. :D |

 | | chessgames.com: < It might be beneficial to say <TIP: As you play through the game in Chess Viewer Deluxe >> Yes that's more accurate, but usually the tips are read by newcomers to the site who haven't learned advanced tricks like changing Java viewers yet. And yes that sterogram site http://www.easystereogrambuilder.com/ is a lot of fun. |

| Dec-17-09 | | Whitehat1963: It looks as though someone hacked into your system and did some "humorous" editing of Capablanca's bio, in which the last sentence of the first paragraph now reads: Capa won the title without losing a single cigar.
I'm sure the last word of that sentence was originally "game" and that you didn't intentionally change it to "cigar." Just thought you should know. |

 | | chessgames.com: For the record here is the list of player pages that were edited during the 5-15 minute period last week ago, when everybody mistakenly had biography editing privileges set: Magnus Carlsen
Wesley So
Hikaru Nakamura
Jose Raul Capablanca
Maxime Vachier Lagrave
Vladimir Malakhov
Wesley So
Jon Ludvig Hammer
We hope that a volunteer biographer can give those pages the once-over to make sure that there isn't any remaining vandalism. |
|

 | | cu8sfan: I'm surprised how short Capablanca's biography is, especially if you compare it to others. I couldn't find any blatant vandalism but I didn't check all of the facts. |

| Dec-17-09 | | whatthefat: Since I seem to be in the habit of finding obscure bugs at the moment, here's another: If I use the search on the front page for games with no more than zero moves, it returns no results. |

| Dec-17-09 | | SamAtoms1980: <whatthefat: Since I seem to be in the habit of finding obscure bugs at the moment, here's another: If I use the search on the front page for games with no more than zero moves, it returns no results.> This could be serious. For instance, it prevented me from exploring the "NIL-NIL GORE" option for the "One ill grin" clue. I was wondering if it could have been a game that was cancelled (e.g. Kramnik-Topalov) due to a restroom or related scandal, after which a violent fistfight ensued. Really, it would be interesting to be able to browse through a list of games that were forfeited without a move, or simply called off on short notice for whatever reason. |
|
Dec-17-09
 | | Annie K.: Hmm. I just put in 1 for "number of moves no more than..." and got back 3 pages with only 0 or 1 moves played. Manageable. :) Akshully, I just dropped by to say that the LOLspeak klu is absolutely squee, that is, <adorable>. :D Too bad I wasn't around just then - I might have gotten that one! |
