Sep-04-10  acirce: <We really thank everybody who stayed level headed throughout the affair>

Must feel good for both of them :-)

Sep-04-10  Open Defence: <ceegee> thanks for clearing that up, i was worried that the Jedi had turned and felt an imbalance in the force, glad its now back to the light
Sep-04-10  dakgootje: That clears up a lot - thanks ceegee :)

I have been critical on a couple occasions, especially in the beginning, but seems like you did a good job.

I guess if cg.com ever becomes as famous as, say - google, and site-histories will be written, then this will get its own chapter ;)

Annie K.: <cg.com: <We are so proud of that effort, that is the event that saved the game, not Daniel's hamfisted plea posted on Natalia's page.>>

Awww... we love you too. ;) But I won't let you downplay your own part in this; somebody had to play the role of mediator, and it was not the easiest role to play (and that's an understatement). Again, well done.

That would take the fun out of playing the ChessBookie and Holiday Hunt games! ;s

Sep-05-10  Once: What a drama! I have just spent most of the morning reading my way through the sorry story. And I have to say that my overwhelming feeling is one of sadness, that it should have had to happen this way.

But, let's be positive. I think that you have handled it well. If you had stopped the game when it was clearly untenable, it would have annoyed all of those who wanted to play on. And strictly speaking, no rules had been broken.

And I can well understand that there is more to this story than meets the eye. And probably right too.

It is true that some of our members have allowed themselves to get a little heated, but again I think you have done the right thing by deleting the posts that broke the rules and keeping the rest.

There has been damage done, but I don't think it has been done to chessgames.com.

A final thought: with so many notable abstentions, it seems a little odd to call it "The World vs..." Could we change the team name to something else? Perhaps let the team themselves decide while we are still in the opening?

Sep-05-10  Hesam7: <CG.com> Couple of things:

(1) One game (Round 3) is missing from the Leko - Gelfand match.

(2) In Shanghai Masters they are using the 3-1-0 scoring system so you might want to adjust your cross table.

How about <The Rest of the World>?

Sep-06-10  benjinathan: <A final thought: with so many notable abstentions, it seems a little odd to call it "The World vs..." Could we change the team name to something else?>

I am guessing "Coalition of the Willing" may not fly?

Sep-06-10  crawfb5: <I am guessing "Coalition of the Willing" may not fly?>

It has a better chance than "Gathering of the Asnosmics." :-)

Phony Benoni: Mind you, I'm not suggesting "Spacebar Masters". No way would I ever endorse a name which would be insulting to both sides. But when it wins the poll, I want some credit!
Sep-06-10  achieve: I insist on "SPACEBAR MASTERS"!!

Such a caption will immediately draw attention to any article on "its" win over NP.

Great PR!

;P

OhioChessFan: I would really like the opportunity to go to my last post in the World Game. For example, I just did a search of +user:OhioChessFan and got a list of my recent kibitzes, including my last post on the World/Pogo game. Clicking on it, I hoped to go to the page with <that> post. Alas, it took me to the very last page of kibitzing. I never had this issue in a previous World game. Could you address it?

chessgames.com: <Hesam7: (1) One game (Round 3) is missing from the Leko - Gelfand match.> Oops, sorry -- it's there now. <(2) In Shanghai Masters they are using the 3-1-0 scoring system so you might want to adjust your cross table.> Oh, we had no idea. We love it when they do use that scoring, our software is all set up to handle that.

About naming the World Team something different, no, we don't think that's a good idea. It's already well understood that The World is different every time it plays. We even use the same name for games like Kasparov vs The World, 1999. On the other hand, when the game is over, and we're looking for a suitable GOTD title, then we have a lot of latitude. "Spacebar Masters" is really very funny to us but there are probably some people who won't be so amused.

<OhioChessFan> About search-kibitz not working at zeroing in on specific posts, you are right, there is a software detail we over looked this Challenge. We think it also is doing the same thing on other kibitzing lists like the ones that appear at the top of chessforums. We'll look into that issue.

Stonehenge: <CG> Aren't we allowed to upload draws anymore? For example: Catharina Roodzant. You've uploaded 14 games but the draws I uploaded are nowhere to be seen.

Phony Benoni: <Stonehenge> When you upload draws, are you using <½-½> as the result at the end of the score? I had some problems when I did that; once I switched to using <1/2-1/2> instead almost everything has been accepted.

The other main problem is that short draws may be rejected as duplicates.

Sep-07-10  Once: <chessgames.com: "Spacebar Masters" is really very funny to us but there are probably some people who won't be so amused.>

Cool-headed and sensible as always. You're right, of course. But for a little while it was fun to dream...

... and fun seems to have been in short supply during this "incident".

I took 'em from http://www.365chess.com/players/Cat.... There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

Sep-07-10  Benzol: <chessgames.com> <You currently have a few games from Iskra in the upload queue, but none involving Moiseev. Feel free to add it to the queue, we'll be processing them within the next few days.> This was dated on the 14th of August. Were you talking about other uploads or mine?

  kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames

I had a super fun 5 minute game with live commentary last night vs a GM opponent. Is there any chance of it being a featured game of the day some day. It is quite entertaining:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnKe...

The PGN score is:

[Event "ICC 5 0"]
[Site "Internet Chess Club"]
[Date "2010.09.06"]
[Round "-"]
[White "KingsCrusher"]
[Black "RZiat"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ICCResult "Black forfeits on time"]
[WhiteElo "2307"]
[BlackElo "2411"]
[Opening "KGD: Falkbeer, Morphy gambit"]
[ECO "C32"]
[NIC "KG.04"]
[Time "13:00:00"]
[TimeControl "300+0"]

1. e4 e5 2. f4 d5 3. exd5 e4 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. d3 Bb4 6. Bd2 e3 7. Bxe3 Nxd5 8. Bd2 O-O 9. Nxd5 Bxd2+ 10. Qxd2 Qxd5 11. Nf3 Bg4 12. Be2 Bxf3 13. Bxf3 Re8+ 14. Kf1 Qb5 15. c4 Qb6 16. d4 Nc6 17. Kc3 ♗lack forfeits on time 1-0

I know it is of not of great quality technically, but I think it's quite dramatic, and of course has the benefit of live commentary associated with it.

Thanks for your consideration

Best wishes
K
