Oct-26-10  Xenon Oxide: Hello <chessgames.com>:

I really enjoy the Chessgames Challange. Have you thought of organizing another one of those "premium only" team game challenges where engines are not allowed -- with one twist: there is only one human team which plays against a strong computer.

That would make for an awesome <Human vs Machine> CC game. Rybka 4 vs Chessgames.com Team. What do you think of this idea?

Oct-26-10  4tmac: good idea (even centaur vs. strong R4?) & yes it should be premium to avoid problems
Oct-26-10  LIFE Master AJ: << Quote of the Day

"It is Bird we love. His victories glitter, his errors are magnificent."

I am a huge fan of Wells. I have several of his books.

Curious as to the SOURCE of this quote?

  kingscrusher: Hi Chessgames

I am a bit shocked to discover that apparently Nimzovich's win vs Alekhine doesn't feature on Nimzo's notable games section on the Nimzo page.

This game:

Nimzowitsch vs Alekhine, 1926

My concrete suggestion is that perhaps wins against World champions should automatically be included in that list - and that might prompt those key games being included as part of member game collections.

Oct-29-10  YouRang: Just a silly nitpick:

I notice that the tournament currently being played in Nanjing, China is displayed on this site as the "Pearl Springs" tourament.

I believe it should be the "Pearl Spring" tournament (Spring is singular). At least that's how it's spelled on the official site.

Oct-30-10  WinKing: Will there be a forum page for the "Spice Cup"? Some of the world's best up & coming chess players playing there.
Oct-30-10  LIFE Master AJ: << Oct-30-10 Markcf: Your getting faster...il crush you on other sites you cheat,or play me...dont call my chess history fiction..play me?>>

Perpetual harassment.

Will anything be done about it?

Oct-31-10  LIFE Master AJ: T Bond vs A J Goldsby, 2008

<<Oct-31-10 Markcf: <AJ GETS OWNED> wow...you certainly spk ur mind which i like, and i didn't know those things cant "BJ"....i know his wins come against opponents rated around the 1700 mark, but i never realised how many ppl he's accused along with me of cheating!!(he's also accused me of saying fictional things on as post he conveniently deleted!) I also never looked on his posts to realise how much he uses computer analysis...wot a prick, theres defo summat i dint like about the fella, but now after others such as yourself have told me his story,i think im justified in sayin wot iv said to him today...he's a jumped up little prick.. >>

Oct-31-10  LIFE Master AJ: RE: user <Markcf>

Please take action. This individual is following me all over this site and posting everywhere. (I would bet a nickel that the other user that he is speaking to - in the above post - has an IP that matches his perfectly.)

Oct-31-10  Waitaka: <Chessgames.com> Someone erased all the sticky links from the Pogonina challange.

Can you identify the perpretator?

I am sorry to suggest this, but maybe only premium members should be able to edit the sticky.

Oct-31-10  Waitaka: I see that only Premium members can edit the sticky already. I am surprised.
Oct-31-10  LIFE Master AJ: ChessGames staff.

I see that the vulgar posts have been deleted. Thanks!

I apologize to you, (for any problems); such people must make your job more difficult than it should be.

Ya'll are doing an amazing job. (Have a good day!)

Oct-31-10  ganstaman: <kingscrusher: My concrete suggestion is that perhaps wins against World champions should automatically be included in that list>

Won't that make a lot of games for a lot of players? Bogo, for instance, has 15 wins against Alekhine. This would mean adding 12 more games to the 10 game list.

Or Kasparov/Karpov -- they have 39 and 25 wins against each other. I simply don't see this as a practical solution.

chessgames.com: <Can you identify the perpretator?> We already have, but it's unclear to us if we should single them out. In any case we have revoked their Sticky editing privilege. It's possible we can salvage the deleted stickies too, if the Team thinks that would be helpful. We're at a bit of a loss here as this is the first time we've ever seen this genuinely happen.

<kingscrusher> <I am a bit shocked to discover that apparently Nimzovich's win vs Alekhine doesn't feature on Nimzo's notable games section> I'm sure I don't need to explain to you that notable games are not editor picks, but we can do one thing to help boost this game's ratings in a democratic way. It deserves to be Game of the Day anyhow, so let's do that, and see if it helps increase it's popularity. Ultimately however, the chess fans will decide.

Nov-01-10  LIFE Master AJ: I actually thought I might have been the guilty party. (But I guess not.)

I looked at it one time, and it was fine.

About five minutes later - I was working on an analysis line - and *POOF* ... everything was gone.

I really thought at first ... "Oh no! I must have accidentally hit something and wiped out the sticky."

Nov-01-10  AgentRgent: For what it's worth I think an example should be made. The person should be publicly announced to discourage future acts of this nature.

OhioChessFan: I am with those who think you should out the Sticky Vandal. May I suggest a membership rule whereby you will reveal the real life identity of anyone who does such things in a premium member game? I would grudgingly admit you'd have to grandfather in all current premium members, but a little public embarrassment is sometimes a good thing.
Nov-01-10  LIFE Master AJ: Just so you know, it definitely was not me. [I added the little "(AT)" after the Analysis Tree, just to be sure.]

Maybe its enough that the CG staff knows and revoked that person's privileges.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Whether or not you publicly identify the sticky vandal, you should seriously consider removing him from the ChessGames team. It doesn't look as if he's there to help us.
Nov-01-10  Waitaka: If we will make a case about the sticky vandal, let's make it like a Real Life case.

If someone makes something like that IRL, we should have a trial, to give the person the chance to explain and defend self.

I can imagine that Cg.com might be the judge and jury, but I think that the accused has the right to defend. I can think about a couple of defense explanations, none of them would free someone from a punishment, but depending of the explanation, the punish severity may vary.

I don't know if the process and identity should be public, it depends on how cg.com faces itself among the chess community.

If the main goal is profit (and this is a private company) and there is no goal of provide a "public" service to the chess community, then cg.com is free to handle this in closed doors.

But if cg.com wants to build a true community, with all that this concept implies, then I believe that the community has rights (and also obligations). In this case I feel that this community has the right to know did it.
