OhioChessFan: Jess, you are touching on a point I've made before. I don't think it's too sentimental to compare some of the games/players here to art/artists. I made this point on the Carlsen page once:

<rogge: my claim - anyone who has a life can not be bothered by a 'nutcase' posting on these pages, he would keep enjoying these pages unaffected. anyone having a life would not bother to give explanation why frequency of posts here is low. anyone disagrees? >

<OhioChessFan: Yes. I understand that sometimes we get off topic. But page after page after page of the same old stuff is just tiresome. To hitch your star to a genius of the first order and post on the (dramatic fanfare) Magnus Carlen page is a desperate gesture of wannabeism and annoying to no end. I will note that both sides are guilty of much nutcaseism on this page and Kasparov and Fischer and Kramnik and...... Anyway, I compare such tripe as akin to scrawling graffiti on a Monet.>

Feb-25-12  crawfb5: <It *is* strange that your ignored posters still show up in <Shark's> link.>

Not really. <Search kibitzing> functions without regard to ignore lists. <Whiteshark's> link was to a search result for <troop>, so <all> posts with that word are displayed, including posts by those on any ignore lists.

Feb-25-12  rogge: As I've pointed out to you before, <Ohio>, I never wrote that. The first time you replied <I have had it happen to me and hate it. My apologies.>

I'm surprised it happened again.

Feb-25-12  hms123: <chessgames.com> In support of <Jess's> comments about the effects of the <AJ mess> on others who visit the site, I offer this email response (below) that I made to a friend of mine who is a regular, respected contributor on the site. I don't think it is fair for me to post his email, but you will easily be able to infer his email to me from my response.

<I can't explain the persistent viciousness of the attacks. I do understand that AJ makes people crazy--me included--but that doesn't explain much. I don't recommend that you post anything because it will just get you all worked up unnecessarily over the resulting attacks on you. I blame the admins for letting this go on as it has. I would suspend all of them (AJ included) for a few months and then say that they would be banned if they started in again (including AJ's nonsense).

The best course is to write Daniel Freeman at chess@chessgames.com a version of what you sent to me. You are welcome to mention me as agreeing if you wish. I will, of course, be glad to look at a draft if that would help. I am not sure that it would do any good, but enough feedback on this mess might impel them to do something. Perhaps your email would be the last straw.>

I don't know if he took my advice, or if he still intends to, but I hope he does.

Feb-25-12  hms123: <<Announcement of Rinus Award>>

We typically try to make an award four times a year. In general, first priority for a <Rinus Award> goes to a non-premium member who makes an excellent contribution to one of the <World vs. GM> games hosted by <chessgames.com>. When there is a break between games, the committee has made an award to someone on another part of the website who has made excellent contributions in that area (e.g., <ChessBookForum>, POTD page).

At this point in the year, it looks to us as though there will be a long break between games. In addition, among the many superb nominations made by the POTD folks, two nominees stood out. Not only did both nominees make consistent, excellent analytic contributions, they also represented the best of <chessgames.com> in their conduct and in their contributions to the creation of a healthy atmosphere at <chessgames.com>.

As we were reading through the posts over the last 60 games (which, by the way, was slow-going only because we kept getting distracted by <Once’s> always-entertaining posts), we ran across this interchange between the two nominees (starting about here: L Shamkovich vs G Lebredo, 1978) that showed how a disagreement and misunderstanding can be settled amicably and with civility and respect all around. We found this conversation to be so refreshing that we decided to make awards to both non-premium members.

It is with great pleasure that User: WinKing User: kutztown46 and I announce that both User: sevenseaman and User: LoveThatJoker will be receiving <Rinus Awards> of year-long premium memberships as soon as they are activated. I have already notified the chessgames.com administrators.

Our thanks go to all of you who are regulars at the POTD pages. You set a terrific example of what a chess community should be like.

Domdaniel: <Nemesistic> Jess can speak for herself, and already has. I just want to single out one little point that you may be getting wrong: the idea that JFQ lacks a sense of humour and might be a bit straight-laced. Or need a good seeing to. Whatever.

This is complete bollocks. The same foul-mouthed wench got my forum shut down a few years ago, with a tirade of vile language about Blessed Magaret Thatcher, dirty limericks involving sheep, and so on.

The admins locked me in there to clean up the mess, and suggested that Jessica and I should try special dirty limerick websites if our tastes ran in that direction.

History now. But just so you know, my friend. The queen has a killer sensa yuma and a mouth like nobody's business.

Also, I like both of you. Can't have fighting between guests of Frogspawn.

Forgive me rogge. My search for "graffiti" returned that post and not the subsequent correction. And of all the posts for me to forget in the intervening five months, that would be the only one.

Feb-25-12  rogge: Ok, thanks.
Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: Hmmm. I have been asked about a certain matter.

It seems a bunch of folks don't like the link that I have been posting. Tough nut.

The trolls have long been out of control. They follow me all over this website> I post something purely about chess and one of the morons of their group will post an insult.

I have asked <REPEATEDLY> that something be done about this ... and nothing has. So I come up with a link ... and someone gets offended? BULL! I don't buy it.

The trolls have insulted me and my family. They have inferred - or stated openly - that I am not a good father. Many have publicly stated that their goal was to "run me off" this site. (Its NOT gonna happen!!!)

I no longer mince words with these low-life, scum-bag punks. I give 'em <<THE LINK>> ... until they get sick of it.

http://www.ajschess.com/for_the-tro...

http://www.ajschess.com/for_the-tro...

http://www.ajschess.com/for_the-tro...

Everytime one of these cockroaches open their mouth and direct an insult my way, they get it. 1,000,000,000 times ... if necessary.

Of course, there is a simple answer. Start enforcing all the guidelines. Equally, fairly, etc. And then all of this will stop.

jessicafischerqueen: <AJ> my point is irrelevant to you and your detractors squabbling. All I ask is that all of you restrict your squabbling to your own personal games pages and fora. Keep it off of the historical games pages. So if you make a chess post on a historical games page and someone flames you- which is what happened to you in the in the <Botvinnik-Alotortsev> games link I posted in this thread- I understand you want to react, but please don't react on the actual game page. Do it somewhere else.

If you really cared about chess as much as you say you do, you wouldn't need to be told to refrain from contributing to the growing pollution on the historical games pages. That's what your detractors have been doing and it's also what you've been doing.

It's irrelevant who is at fault- when historical masterpieces are defaced by your fighting, all of you are at fault.

So please stop fighting with each other on the general games pages. That damages our website.

Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: I didn't see you complaining when this group of individuals was following me all over the site ...

so I will take this to mean that this is your usual lying, two-faced, back-stabbing modus operandi and ask you politely to take a long walk off a short pier.

jessicafischerqueen: <AJ> all I'm asking is for you not to react to attacks you get on the historical games pages. Flame wars on those pages bury serious chess posts- including yours.

That's bad. You and your detractors can stop this behavior of your own volition. I really hope you do.

Feb-26-12  Nemesistic: AJ, iv'e just offered you money(i'm serious!), and Jess just tried being very diplomatic and patience, yet you still roll out the fat man and nuke eveyone!!

Have you considered voting for the *gulp*... Democrats??

It's just you're as gung ho as you're last President.....and he's not so popular, even in Britain!

Feb-26-12  Nemesistic: I think the Opera house game needs looking at, as all i see is endless chess discussion then Goldsby has today, out of the blue, just gone and posted his "Link" there once again!!!
Feb-26-12  Benzol: "I'm just going outside for a little while. I may be some time".
Feb-26-12  810609: I must second JFQ´s and Nemesistic´s request. Endless spamming of link to that disgusting webpage (if you really can call it like that...) on every game page has to be stopped.

One way is pointless bashing and finger-pointing on pages like A J Goldsby vs Tkachiev, 1995 or Nakamura vs A J Goldsby, 2003 - who cares?

But if you allow this on pages like Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858 - out of blue, after chess (!!) related posts without even mentioning this sorry individual, his stupid link again, it´s just road to hell.

<this is your usual lying, two-faced, back-stabbing modus operandi and ask you politely to take a long walk off a short pier>

This has been the pattern for the last eight years. The same user demands that our Administrators enforce the Posting Guidelines, then he immediately turns around and violates the Posting Guidelines himself. He doesn't want everybody to follow the rules; he wants everybody else to follow the rules. As the entire group has long figured out, this user wants people angry at him so he can pretend we are "jealous" of his title and his Web pages and his awards and his analysis and everything else.

Those of us who were here in 2005 - I said, those of us who were here ini 2005 - remember when the site wasted one third of their time deleting bicker threads from classic games. Surely they have better things to do, instead of cleaning up after us babies.

Equal and fair enforcement means <LIFE Master AJ> is the first to go. Now.

Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: In case you weren't listening, this is not my fault.

The main fault lies with the admins of this site. Too long have they sat on their thumbs and done nothing.

There IS a simple solution, start enforcing the guidelines. Delete all non-chess posts. (ALL!!!!!) Instead of allowing the troop to spray every page with their feces, they could simply put a stop to this nonsense ... if they really wanted to.

The only conclusion I can draw that is as long as people are "tuning in" to read the latest gossip and they are getting lots of "hits," they are quite happy to allow things to continue as they are.

Meanwhile, every time one of these individuals open their mouths and direct an insult my way, I will respond as I see fit. "The link," must be working, it seems to have ticked off all of my detractors ... and (for me) that must mean I am doing something right.

Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: On a serious note, many years ago, I remember that you talked about implementing a link/viewer that would allow you to move the pieces around on the chess board. (On the screen.)

Was anything ever done with that?

Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: For clarification:

<< Feb-26-12 playground player: <Life Master AJ> Delete all non-chess posts from forums? Whoa! Have you visited my forum lately? Following your prescription, my whole forum would be deleted. I mean, who wants to read anything I have to say about chess? The problem is not "non-chess posts." The problem is personalities.

Realizing that the only way to do this is to insist on civility, I think my own forum has become, consequently, productive, thought-provoking, and interesting. I'm not trying to brag about it: whatever has been accomplished there is the work of a diverse group of kibitzers--<YouRang>, <achieve>, <OhioChessFan>, <cormier>, <Jessicafischerqueen>, <Deus Ex Alekhine>, and quite a few others. Without them, my forum is nothing.

Within this group, we hardly ever agree about anything. We don't have to! Our purpose is to share our thoughts on religious and social issues, and hopefully to inspire independent thinking among our readers.

I think we have all shown that this can be done without anybody getting nasty. Occasionally someone goes a bit over the top, but we've managed to deal with those incidents without involving CG management.

Please don't encourage management to shut us down.

< Feb-26-12 LIFE Master AJ: <playground player> You misread me.

I want them to shut down the trolls (nothing else) ... and I would NEVER encourage tampering with a personal forum ... unless it got just plain nasty. (There have been a number of forums that have been censored over the years. Links to nudity/porn or really filthy language.)

Surely, you know I have this group of people. They follow me all over the site. ANYTIME I post ANYTHING, they try to bring an insult to bear.

This is what I would like to see end. (You may copy this into that forum, if you so desire.) <<<>>> >>

Feb-26-12  benjinathan: AJ's post to the Opera page is a deliberate provocation. It is not a response to anything other than <JFQ>'s impassioned request to keep the historical pages clear of the insanity.

Please, please do something <cg>.

Feb-26-12  TheFocus: If the intention of your LINK is to make people angry, you have failed. We are laughing at your latest silliness. Just another way for you to draw even more attention to yourself.

Keep posting that link <AJ>. I need a good laugh.

Feb-26-12  LIFE Master AJ: I am the only one who has been provoked ... the trolls are the only guilty party here.
