| Jun-08-12 | | Ulhumbrus: <chessgames.com> You appear to have broadcast the wrong game on the live games page. The game given as the Carlsen- Kramnik game may be in fact the game between Morozevich and Caruana. The official site appears to have made the opposite mistake, displaying the game between Carlsen and Kramnik in the page meant for the game between Morozevich and Caruans |

 | | chessgames.com: We apologize for relaying the wrong game this morning. Happily, by the looks of it, this might have been more fun than the 23 move repetition-draw in Carlsen-Kramnik. Anyhow, we're unclear how this happened and are looking into it. We'll keep the kibitzing relevant to the game. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I think the official site also had the wrong game to begin with, and then when they fixed it your script wasn't clever enough to follow suit :) |

 | | chessgames.com: That explains it. Once our software latches on it refuses to let go. Kind of like a leech. We're very sorry nobody was in the office earlier to make a fix, although it sort of worked out nicely. Should something like this ever happen again (and it probably will) it sure would be helpful if people limited their chess analysis to the game that is actually being shown, as opposed to posting diagrams from the "real" game and analyzing that instead. That way, when everything is finally fixed, we don't have the incredibly confusing situation of people discussing game A on page B. |

| Jun-08-12 | | Blunderdome: Any Java gurus here? I have Java 7 Update 4 installed on Vista, enabled on Firefox & through Control Panel, but the viewer here doesn't load (it doesn't even start to load -- as though I don't have Java at all). I've tested it other places and it behaves exactly as if I didn't have Java. |

 | | chessgames.com: What happens when you try MSIE or Chrome, does Java work (or try to work after the obligatory warnings) or do they not see it either? If it seems system-wide, you might just try re-installing from http://www.java.com/ -- even if you just did it recently, the install wizard for Java does some magical things. Until you get it working again remember you can always switch over to pgn4web temporarily. |

 | | Stonehenge: I have had serious viruses a couple of times when using Java. I don't use that anymore, so I can't look at games here anymore. |

 | | chessgames.com: <AlienMath> Good post, thanks. <Stonehenge> By all means, switch to pgn4web if need be. It doesn't allow for manipulating the pieces on the board, but it's better than nothing at all. It is also possible with some technical wizardry to make it so that the "download PGN" link will actually invoke a third party program. If you can arrange that with a good chess program (Fritz, etc.) it's probably even a better choice than Chess Viewer Deluxe. We've never tried to explain how this is done in our documentation because the methods vary wildly from browser to browser (and OS to OS). |

 | | chessgames.com: Especially in light of the recent Java vulnerabilities, the day will probably come when we are forced to abandon Java as a default. We're still looking for a really good Flash-based PGN viewer that is either in the public domain or can be licensed for a reasonable fee. If anybody knows of one please let us know. |

| Jun-10-12 | | Eyal: <CG> In the live broadcast page for the 4th round of the Tal Memorial you have the colors wrong - Morozevich should be White and Radjabov Black. |

 | | LoveThatJoker: <chessgames.com> If you guys are seriously considering switching from Java to something else, I ask you with the utmost respect to not switch to Flash.
There are many people who use operating systems - I was in that boat recently - that are incompatible with Flash due to graphics/upgrades/etc. The cool thing about Java is that you can run it with virtually any operating system and it will always be reliable. Really, there is no problem with viewing the games in Java format; what I would recommend as an improvement for CG, would actually be two things: a) The ability to allow members to play blitz games in real-time. b) During live transmissions to be able to view all games in a particular tournament instead of simply one featured game. PS. An important note regarding Java: Through time as Java keeps updating and reupdating itself, sometimes different versions stay installed on the computer. Something that has worked for me in the past is going to my list of programs ready to be "uninstalled/repaired" and ensuring that I have only one version of Java installed. If you have multiple versions of Java on there and doubts as to which may be your best bet, simply uninstall all of them and then go to www.java.com to install the latest version - once again, that has helped me in the past! |
