Another photograph, that one in color, appears in Edward Winter's Chess Notes, http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/.... | Mar-10-13 | | David2009: In reply to chessgames.com chessforum
<chessgames.com: <DcGentle> I've seen that circumstance occur before. The kibitzing here, in spite of being chock full of a number of chess related features, lacks the ability to post a PGN string in the general case. The main two problems are the ones you named, the dual meaning of the braces as well as the way we automatically interpret anything that remotely looks like FEN.
The notion of a [PGN] ... [/PGN] type feature has come up before...>
[snip]
The special characters / { } can be represented by the strings / { and }. Be sure to add the ; at the end. Credit for this idea goes to <SwitchingQuylthulg>: see his witty post on March 6 2013 to DcGentle chessforum. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII
To compose this post I also needed to replace the special character #: its replacement is # |

 | | chessgames.com: <David2009> You are 100% correct--in fact, if you have sufficient savvy with HTML entities and Unicode you can produce just about anything on earth here. However, for the less technically savvy, it's worth adding that we have a special "hook" if you want to represent braces: simply type two of them. What I mean is, when you type this: {{braces}}
your post will look like this:
{braces}
That's a very simple "poor man's" method of producing braces that anybody can handle. However, only überhackers can triforce ;-) ▲

 | | FSR: How does everyone do that? I can't imagine why I'd want to do it, but I'm jealous that everyone else can do it and I can't. |

 | | chessgames.com: Very flattering endorsement currently on the homepage of the FIDE Candidates Tournament website (http://london2013.fide.com) <There are few comprehensive sources on the internet to compile the data in full, and take account of all the games ever played between these illustrious players. I decided to refer to Chessgames.com which is regularly updated and probably the most detailed source for the results.> |

| Mar-14-13 | | DcGentle: Dear <chessgames.com>, May I suggest an enhancement of your advanced search? As I guess I am not the only one to search for high quality games of a certain opening, for example. So I would suggest that you add a popup select field "rating" with values like "any" (as standard value), "> 2200", "> 2300", "> 2400", and so on until "> 2700". The search would then yield only these games, where at least one player has got a rating of the selected interval. I wonder whether something like this would be possible. |
|
| Mar-14-13 | | hms123: <DcGentle> Once you search for a specific opening position (e.g., Guimard): Opening Explorer you can click on <search database for this position>. That will give you all the games. I assume you have gotten this far already. You then have the option to click on <PGN download>. You can now open that pgn database with any pgn reader or database program. I use SCID (http://scid.sourceforge.net/), which is free, fast, and easy. It reminds me of.....never mind. |

 | | WannaBe: <DcGentle> One small 'problem' that would be players' games that have no rating... |
|
| Mar-14-13 | | DcGentle: <hms123>: Yes, of course I know that users can do something like this for themselves, but there are always users who cannot install something on their computer, for many reasons. It just means shifting the problem to the local user anyways. We have a database search here, so... in theory it should be possible. Thanks for your answer anyways. |
