 | | Domdaniel: <WannaBe> -- <So, there's a chance that it wasn't?! >
Yes, it's like a stopped clock -- right every 24 hours. So if CG tell everyone that their time is up, they'll be right in a few cases. |

 | | chessgames.com: <like a stopped clock> Exactly. Again, we're really sorry about that glitch but at this point I think we've talked to everybody who was zapped by it and sorted things out. <The European Team Chess Championship> Oh that's right--thanks for reminding. We'll get that online shortly. <Also> We've incorporated Anand-Carlsen World Championship (2013) into our History of the World Chess Championship system, which during the match we'll keep updated with news, links, and so forth. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: <cg> What's the best way to suggest an inappropriate game be removed from Guess-the-Move? I remember doing so both here and by correction slip, with the correction slip working better, but I'd like to know the right method :) (In this case, the game concerned is S Satyapragyan vs Blatny, 2000, where Black never has a winning position.) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good morning.
I have to say I was horrified to see that the "Take a Stroll Through Chess History" banner is not on the front page anymore? Is there something wrong with my browser, or did you really take it down? If you took it down, please put it back up ok?
More free work by your members has gone into that one feature than all of the others combined. Times ten. Taking the banner down is a bit like spitting in their face. Not to mention, I click on that banner multiple times a day in the process of working with the rest of our team on editing your <WCC Intros>. Please put the banner up again-
Thanks in advance. |

 | | chessgames.com: <JFQ> Please don't be horrified--we're always juggling banners on the homepage and that one had to be temporarily removed to make room for the new WCC banner and other miscellaneous contractual obligations. We have 8 of those sidebar banners on our homepage right now which is already two more than we prefer. Rest assured, it will return. That banner is very important to us. We sincerely believe that when we can get a new user to click on that banner we have the best chance of really impressing them with what Chessgames can do, all thanks to the hard work of the numerous CG editors. I am very sorry if anybody felt slighted by our banner changes. Let me also point out that there is a link to Tournament Index in the footer of every page and there are also severals links to it on the homepage even though the banner has been removed. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Daniel>
Thanks for such a swift and polite reply. I've felt crappy all day by how rudely I just spoke to you in public. Again. Contractual obligations I understand. Believe me, I want you to make as much money as possible- that's how cg.com and all the work done here stays alive. May I ask about the <Chessgames Bookie>? I'm just wondering if there's a specific reason why that banner might not be "juggled out" of the rotation instead of the Historical Tournament banner? Does it create revenue by attracting fantasy gamblers who then get premium memberships? I have no data obviously but you do. If you tell me there's a financial reason for preferring the "Bookie Banner" over the "History Banner" then I'd side with you on keeping it up over the History Banner. Or if you think more of the members would prefer the Bookie Banner, then I'd be fine with that too. But personally I'd like to see the Bookie Banner put on temporary hiatus instead of the Historical Tournament Banner. Obviously it's up to you- at any rate thanks again for your never ending patience with inveterate mouthy malcontents such as myself. |

 | | Annie K.: <cg> I wonder if maybe, just for the duration of the WCC match, you could add a line of banners across the middle column of the homepage as well - say right at the top of the page, or under that Viewer Help Page note, or under the Advanced Search - there would be place for about 3 banners placed side by side, that wouldn't push down the PotD too much? If not pushing the PotD out of sight is a major consideration, immediately under it is probably also a pretty good place. It *would* be nice for all the new visitors to be able to see the banners of the special site features when the games slow down a bit. :) |

 | | WannaBe: <OhioChessFan> Actually, you can. You just have to edit/add to the enhanced menu with an external link. =)) |

| Nov-09-13 | | MarkFinan: How do I put this.. Okay...
Once upon a time there was a little boy who hung around with the other local kids on the estate. This little boy revelled in playing with the other children, getting up to mischief, and becoming a bit of a bully. Where there was trouble, there he was. One day after another boy on the estate had given him a taste of his own medicine, he went home upset.
The next day he came out to play, but he'd changed. He was different.
"What's up? " said the other kids. "I've found God, and I don't want to play with you anymore!".. "Okay", said the other kids, "we'll see you around".
Yet something very very strange happened!! He started following the other kids around, preaching to them, telling them that if they didn't fall in line with his plans and follow god that he'd get them in trouble at every opportunity!! Well ain't that rich, the rest of the gang thought. Only yesterday you were throwing eggs at windows with the rest of us, and now just because someone threw an egg at your window you're gonna tell on us if we do it...... Thats how I see it, and him.
<<TheFocus: <Mark> Your post will be reported. I told you. Every post in which you mention my name will be reported.

| Nov-09-13 | | technical draw: After 10 years I finally made <chessgames.com> my home page! I had the google and yahoo! search engines for the most time but they are really messing things up lately so I picked chess game.com by "default". Even if it wasn't my homepage I spent most of my online time right here at good ol' chesgames.com. (actually Nov.18 will be ten years) |

 | | Domdaniel: <Focus> -- < That one almost made me tear up>
Hey, aren't you supposed to be some kind of writer? Well, don't let the writerly side down -- try to specify whether 'tear up' is (a) American dialect for 'burst into tears, weep, cry', or (b) regular English for tear up, or shred, bits of paper, etc. Speaking as a genuine professional writer, my suggestion is "That one almost made me cry". As the song says, "Only one damn thing could make me break down and cry ..." |
|
| Nov-09-13 | | TheFocus: <Dom> You are write. I should have said, "That made me weep as if I were a child." |

| Nov-09-13 | | The Last Straw: Hi <cg>
I was doing Guess-The-Move for J L Hammer vs Carlsen, 2003, and on move 15 I guessed 15...♖fe8. The machine gave me full credit and said I play 15...♖e8. Is this supposed to be a glitch (I mean, the 15...♖e8 thing)? Thanks in advance! |
