 | | Tabanus: <Alien Math> That's the risk of having volunteer editors. CG should be careful with who they select. |
|
| Jul-06-16 | | zanzibar: <<Tab writes...> I now remember a third case: Some years ago, I removed the info on Odd Lie, his birth date, nationality, etc. This was to anonymize him, and thus save him from being associated with Beavis and the buttheads.> What was <CG>'s reaction then? And who fixed it? |

 | | saffuna: < If I understand you correctly, you seem to be only one actually bravely <defending> your right to write anything on the player pages.> Yes, I like that off-topic discussions develop naturally on the pages of little-known players. But only on the pages of players with few games who have not attracted the interest of anyone in their chess. It's not a "right," though.

 | | perfidious: <Abdel Irada....As for "indispensable": Any editor who lets personal animus cloud his thinking and damages a player bio because of it is anything but....> While only too human and possessing my share of failings, I regard this abuse of trust as dishonourable and would never thus stray from the path of responsibility. |

 | | Domdaniel: I dimly recall Tabanus conceding that his command of the English language was less than perfect. Which goes for all of us, to some extent. Is Tab aware, I wonder, of all the connotations of the word 'jerk'? |

It's fascinating to see how easily one can identify a poster under a new name from the style and content of his posts. I recognized <saffuna> as <Jim Bartle> on the Rogoff forum by his second post under that name, several pages before he identified himself. (I also used to frustrate a persistent troll who originally appeared on FICS under the name <PresidentBush> by immediately catching him every time he invented a new account — which isn't permitted under FICS rules. Mostly this was because he foolishly kept repeating the same things in the same words — although admittedly on two occasions I had to resort to looking at his recent games and seeing that he (mis)played the same openings the same way, too.) ∞ |

<Dom> are you familiar with the tasty Algonquin treat "jerked beef"? Do they have that in Whales, your home state? Pity about Whales, despite Bale, not quite enough to tip the scales. |

| Jul-09-16 | | sonia91: The <7th Danzhou Tournament> is underway: http://theweekinchess.com/chessnews... All previous editions: Tournament Index search: "danzhou" I think this year's event should be the strongest ever and also the most international, since there are 4 foreigners (Harikrishna, Nepo, Ivanchuk, Leko), compared to 2 in 2014 and 2015, and 0 in earlier editions. |

Anytime you see that kind of thing, it's an artifact of live game broadcasts. I have a program which automatically cleans up the PGN from such games but I forgot to run it after Stavanger. |
