No reply, no rectification, more importantly, no apparent interest in determining the processes which resulted in such a mistake. Disappointing!

al wazir: Is <CG> also going to shut down the <Louis Stumpers> page? No more math and logic puzzles, only chess-related posts about <Louis Stumpers> (whoever he was)? And while they're at it, better shut down the <Wesley So> page. Too many controversial, political, offensive opinions get posted there. And how can the <Jeremy Lim> page be left up? I doubt if Lim knows the upper side of a basketball from the lower.

Let's purify <chessgames.com>! Make it fit for the whole family! No strong language, no off-topic comments, nothing that wouldn't pass muster in a Sunday School!

I'm sorry now that I renewed my premium membership for three years. It won't happen again.

Nov-18-20  optimal play: <Check It Out: I agree with <Chancho>: create a new public forum and title it "politics/religion" or whatever, so that there is a lightning rod forum for such topics.>

That's all very well and good until <Nozzle the Parrot> or some other cry baby kicks up a stink and begins reporting posts which hurt his feelings.

If cry babies complain about non-PC comments and get them removed then any new "politics/religion" forum will just end up another Leftist echo chamber.

<Migrate it to a new public forum so you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.>

On the contrary. The babies have to be kept out.

Not everyone can handle the rough 'n' tumble of Rogoff and when cry babies like <Nozzle> whinge to the admins and get comments censored then the forum ceases to have any purpose.

That will always be the problem with any kind of "politics/religion" forum.

Susan Freeman: < al wazir>. I would be happy to issue you a refund if you are so dissatisfied.
Nov-18-20  Big Pawn: You know what would be cool, is to have a fun way to discover lots of historical chess players that you would otherwise never come across. There is already player of the day, but couldn't there be something else along these lines?

Sometimes I play through old games from the 1800s and I start clicking on names, hopping fro one player to another. I come up on some dead ends and start over.

What if there was a button you could press that would take you to some random player's profile? That might be interesting. Then people could include these players in their game's collections, which means there would be increased interlinking on the site, which means that CG would be more deeply indexed by Google.

It would be an interesting way to learn about so many undiscovered players.

Nov-18-20  Big Pawn: <Susan Freeman: Sounds like a good idea. But I don’t have that magic lantern. Wish I did. 😊>

I think that would be a small matter of some rather uncomplicated code. Just a button to click, the code picks a player at random, and you're redirected to that page.

A decent coder could probably do that in a day.

It would be like taking a ride in DOCTOR WHO's Tartus on the chess website.

Check It Out: Dear <Susan Freeman>:

As has been discussed here, your password security is compromised. My previous password for this site was hacked. Just a few weeks ago my membership was renewed (thanks, <technical draw>! <*>). You sent me a confirmation email which contained both my user name and password in plain text! Anyone here will tell you that's a mistake.

This is not just a priority. It is a liability. Get it fixed.

The reason that prompted me to bring this up is my personal identity was hinted at today on this site and my anonymity is possibly compromised.

I look forward to your reply.

Nov-18-20  George Wallace: <The reason that prompted me to bring this up is my personal identity was hinted at today on this site and my anonymity is possibly compromised>

Your personal identity was not hinted at today. You wrote in your bio that you are into martial arts, so when someone calls you Mr. Karate Guy, that is not hinting at anything you haven't already made public.

My suggestion? You need to put down the bottle, go to bed and stop drunk posting.

<MissScarlett>

On your posts chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #34311) and chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #34396) I have done some investigating.

I don't think this is a case of a double processing, I think you uploaded a game that had a "near duplicate" already published in the database, and this allowed the game to be published a second time.

The games are not identical. They have differences in the pgn tags and they also have a different, though almost identical, score:

Didn't you hear? Lemme is dead. My condolences.

Nov-19-20  thegoodanarchist: < George Wallace: <<<CIO: The reason that prompted me to bring this up is my personal identity was hinted at today on this site and my anonymity is possibly compromised>>>

Your personal identity was not hinted at today. You wrote in your bio that you are into martial arts, so when someone calls you Mr. Karate Guy, that is not hinting at anything you haven't already made public. >

Not to pile onto <CIO>, but I will also point out that this was discussed in his forum over the years.

I see now that your bio is deleted and your forum closed, so I guess you must be more sensitive about it now, than in years past.

That is certainly your prerogative, and one that I will respect.

Nov-19-20  thegoodanarchist: <Susan Freeman: Mom, you are not up to date on this. The worst people in the country right now cry "freedom of speech" any time you try to deplatform them for spreading literal nazi propaganda. It's out of hand. >

Two points: 1. The vast majority of what is being deplatformed is nothing near <literal nazi propaganda>. In fact, I doubt you can cite even ONE deplatforming due to "literal nazi propaganda".

2. Freedom of speech wasn't enshrined in the 1st amendment to protect chit chat about the weather. It was to protect political speech from exactly what you just did. In other words, to protect speech that some people consider controversial, and to prevent marginalization and dehumanization of minority opinion.

However, at this point, it is the majority opinion that is being censored by a small Leftist minority who have hijacked our institutions.

Nov-19-20  thegoodanarchist: < jessicafischerqueen:

The correct answer is "yes".

al wazir: <Susan Freeman: I would be happy to issue you a refund if you are so dissatisfied.> It may come to that.

But I don't think it would be a bad outcome for the <Kenneth S. Rogoff> page to revert exclusively to chess- and Rogoff-related comments, provided that another forum dedicated to controversial topics in philosophy, politics, economics, etc., replaces it, AND all the PPE-related comments that have been posted at the Rogoff page get transferred to the new page.

But as a scientist I am pained by illogical reasoning and inconsistency. If you shut down political arguments on the <Kenneth S. Rogoff > page because they are "off-topic" (or because you object to some of the opinions posted there), will you also feel obliged to purge the math and logic puzzles posted on the <Louis Stumpers> page, my second favorite?

In that case I will want my money back.

Nov-19-20  thegoodanarchist: < Susan Freeman: We are closing it down. I have to get Sargon to help>

The official announcement I was looking for. Thank you for clarifying.

saffuna: The curious thing is that the objectionable content of the Rogoff page always came from conflict between the liberals and the conservatives.

Now the conservatives have effectively abandoned the page in the past couple of months, leaving much less objectionable content. And that's when the administrators choose to shut it down.

Nov-19-20  thegoodanarchist: <Olga Viewer: Poll Time! Curious about what people feel is the most important reason for showing up (nearly) daily?

I'd like to see in %>

Puzzle of the Day: 35%

Ongoing conversations in Premium Member forums: 55%

Game of the Day: 5%

Reviewing db Games: 5%

If the Game of the Day were selected more for caliber of the players and less for the usually mediocre puns, then it would shoot up in percentage.
