| Mar-07-21 | | Caissanist: FWIW, arguably (well, I would argue it anyway) the best response to the "why all the negativity" question came from a posting by User: metatron2 on the Kasparov page, so I am taking the liberty of reposting it here: < I think that the main problem on cg is not the members who leave the site, that is a normal process in such online communities. The problem is that new members are not coming in. at least not members that bring valuable contribution.I don't think that members like harry and cg moderation is the main reason for that. We had more of these problems back in cg heydays. The problem is that this site did not evolve over the years. Its community features are old and basic compared with modern social sites. Features like: mention member, reply to post (with threads), likes/dislike posts, response notifications, and online chats, are quite common these days. Its chess related features are also far behind today's standard. no built-in engines, the pgn viewers are oldish, etc. and the entire web technology is old compared to the responsive modern sites (that don't access the server on every local browser operation, like cg does). The old cg members (like us) are used to all that, and we kind of like the old and familiar look and feel of this site, and got used to work around its limitations, but I guess that new comers that are already used to modern sites, are not impressed. When new valuable members leave much faster than new members are joining, the site is declining in all fronts, including its chess-database update and its moderation.> |

| Mar-08-21 | | George Wallace: You're running some shady ads. I clicked on by accident and found myself on a “security check” website that I couldn’t click out of. Then another time I got redirected to a dating site with pornographic images. You better talk to the dirt bag who is running your ad campaign because this is bs. |
Mar-08-21
 | | saffuna: The ads I get on chessgames are tied to the type of websites I have visited at other times. They are clearly not chosen by chessgames. Makes me wonder what kind of sites <george wallace> has been visiting. |
| Mar-08-21 | | George Wallace: Susan landed on a site that sells blow up dolls. I said the same thing to her. She said she hasn’t visited such sites. For me, it happened after I landed on a “Your phone has been infected” page, and I tried to click out. It kept redirecting me to new websites. I was unable to click back to CG. |
| Mar-08-21 | | Z truth 000000001: Well <saff>, that's something I'd rather not know. FWIW- one doesn't have to go to external sites to be exposed to pornographic crap - it's right here on <CG>: <<georgie porgie> -- I hope <Yoga Pants> doesn't do this at home with his Mom and Aunt around. I mean, what if he's got those SUPER TIGHT <YOGA PANTS> on and he's got some wood? Disgusting!
His Mom could see him in the other room, arched backward, wood popping up in his tight yoga pants, and think, "Lord, what is wrong with my son? Please send him a good woman"> Kenneth Rogoff (kibitz #463736) |
