| | MissScarlett: It would be interesting to know the size of the market for commercial chess programs and databases, and whether it's kept pace with the apparent growth in online chess. With so many people nowadays playing on their phones, tablets and laptops (many of which no longer have inbuilt CD/DVDs), I suspect the proportion of players who've recently bought a commercial chess product is lower than, say, 10-15 years ago. True, you can purchase commercial programs in downloadable form, but given that there are also freeware versions of Stockfish, etc., I positively baulk at the thought! |

Maybe for a longer time project, I was wondering if public kibitzing could be applied to the Opening explorer e.g. Opening Explorer I would have liked to comment about Nbd2 being 5% higher results for White than the Milner Barry gambit and have a discussion about that. Opening up the Opening explorer for kibitzing discussion seems like a cool idea :) Cheers, K |

Using your example, and the umbrella designation French Defense Advance, there's only 8 pages of kibitzing, and only 2 of the kibitzes in the last 8 years. French, Advance (C02) The Caro-Kann B10-19 has maybe 10 kibitzes total in the last 5 years on those 10 pages! I've never understood it, but people just don't kibitz about openings. Maybe a direct link from OE to the opening under consideration would increase those numbers, but I doubt it. |
