MissScarlett: My older idea was to set up a WhatsApp group that would facilitate the photo-sharing of text and pictures. But it would have to be done to ensure the anonymity of participants (where preferred). I read something online claiming it can be done.
Aug-03-21  George Wallace: <But it would have to be done to ensure the anonymity of participants (where preferred)>

Why would it have to ensure anonymity?

MissScarlett: For those who prefer anonymity. I don't insist on it.

My older idea has legs, and still is working fine.

It also provides anonymity, maybe not to the NSA level, but adequate to keep most of the Russian hackers at bay (knock on wood of course).

  MissScarlett: What idea?

BTW, what happened to User: Olga Man? Has <Project Aria> been mothballed?

Aug-05-21  George Wallace: I have a hunch that this website is not built upon an industry-standard content management system. Daniel probably cobbled it together old-school style, from scratch.

If that is the case, it would probably be a wise thing to do, to migrate to a new CMS, keeping the design features intact, and possibly adding new ones at the same time, but clearing the entire website of all the bugs. Another advantage to having this website on a modern CMS is that more people would be able to work on it and actually get things done.

More people = less qualified people who can't get this site together could probably swim like a fish in water working with a CMS they are familiar with.

Just my two cents.

MissScarlett: <I'm not sure of the practicality or even the legality, but couldn't the company purchase subscriptions to online newspaper archives and genealogical services, and share access with a select group of volunteer editors?>

< My older idea was to set up a WhatsApp group that would facilitate the photo-sharing of text and pictures. But it would have to be done to ensure the anonymity of participants (where preferred). I read something online claiming it can be done.>

I'm mothballing these plans, but I'm convinced their time will come.

Aug-05-21  Z legend of CG: <Missy> I may have misunderstood.

Do you want anonymity at the level of not even knowing who deposited a picture or file to the collection?

In other words, pedo-file level anonymity?!

Ain't gonna happen.

MissScarlett: Pseudonymity. Like here. I suppose clandestine chess networks never end well.
Aug-06-21  Z legend of CG: <Pseudonymity. Like here.>

That's pretty easy, almost everyone allows that since you just need an email address.

Myself, I don't too much care who the man behind the myth is... (or should the myth be Miss?!!)

  jessicafischerqueen:

<Z> Famously, <MissScarlett> "has no email," although he has "an IP address."

I remember when they were first trying to recruit <MissScarlett> to be a volunteer editor. For some reason the topic of "real identification" came up and I believe I posted publicly to <Miss> that "Daniel already has your I.P. address."

<Miss> then replied "Well he has <an> I.P. address."

lol

I have since learned about how easy it is to get a VPN tunnel or some other masking program to hide your real I.P. address.

Aug-06-21  Z legend of CG: <JFQ> just curious, what was "her" handle part then?

gezafan: You can't even look things up on the internet anymore. I typed in the 1972 US Chess Championship and all I got was the 1972 World Championship. I didn't type in the World Chess Championship. I stopped looking after 10 pages.

I even tried different browsers. Same thing. They all act in lockstep.

Maybe it's my computer...

Anyone else have the same experience?
