Jan-05-22  George Wallace: <FTB: We don't need someone making the same provocative statement on every game page of a particular player, hoping to generate the same repeat argument on every game page of a particular player. >

Says who?

Look, there's a simple solution to that. Just put that person on ignore.

Finished.

Problem solved.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then the <real> problem is you just want to win that little war and have things your way.

Right?

Daniel said to put them on ignore if you don't like their comments.

Daniel said if you don't like it, "cry it out ladies" cry it out.

Look, isn't <Messiah> just a kid? He gets off on being silly so let the kid have his fun. Why make him conform to a grumpy old man stereotype?

The ignore button!

Learn it.
Live it.
Love it.

  perfidious: < MissScarlett: Is <Messiah> an American? If not, then Americans should cease trying to impose their values on the rest of the world. >

It is immaterial to me what <Messiah>'s origins, or those of anyone else, happen to be.

There is one poster in this entire discussion who would bid fair to, as you have noted above, impose his will on others hereabout; some years ago he offered to purchase a block of premium memberships to thus gain a measure of control.

Freedom of speach is not freedom to spam.
Jan-05-22  George Wallace: <Freedom of speach is not freedom to spam.>

Then we should delete this spammy comment of yours, or should we call it trolling?

The word spam is being used a little bit too loosely here.

We here, in America, prefer to err on the side of free speech.

No one is asking to ban <Chris Owen> for his gibberish and spam.

No one is asking to ban the old <posoo> for his gibberish and spam.

Seems like what we have going on here is a case of a <CG> admin abusing his admin privileges, just like a former admin.

This will not do.

  perfidious: <Diademas: This discussion has now lasted longer than <Messiah>'s alledged suspension....>

It has, moreover, become an exercise in control by certain elements who wish to hold sway and ruthlessly muzzle all dissent.

<....It's not as if he is shipped away to be hanged drawn and quartered....>

A private word to cease and desist might well have done.

<....Freedom of speach is not freedom to spam.>

Indeed not.

Jan-05-22  Messiah: Old and bitter dudes are discussing my case! Quite an accomplishment.

I guess it was MissScarlett who spotted and punished the felony.

  chancho: <Jim> If there is one thing where I agree with the <fake christian> is that the ignore function is quite useful.

Most of the negativity going on about (by the usual suspects) can be ignored.

Sure, I see the usual names <from the usual buffoons> on the search thread from time to time, but since I know it's mostly negative tripe, I merely avoid reading it.

Like a famous author once said a long time ago:

<It's all mind over matter. I don't mind, because they don't matter.>

๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

Jan-05-22  Messiah: <saffuna> and <chancho> I greatly appreciate your honesty, however, I should issue a warning against unwary posting, as it might end up in the revocation of the license to publish your thoughts either for a limited time (say, 48 hours), or indefinitely.

  fredthebear: <MS> knows my thoughts on matters. I can appreciate her numerous contributions in general. In fact, s he and <jfq> are two reasons I'm still around -- they take care of matters, as does <Stonehenge> etc. etc. The concern remains "Let's strive for clarity and consistency in regulation." Let's not nitpick one person while three rage unfettered.

Thanks to <OCF> for clarifying his position.

The "ignore" button <GW> might be an individual solution, but it's not a site solution. It's turning a blind eye to a problem. Golly, I guess this indicates that you are not on my ignore list!

Hey <Messiah>, can I be a bitterSWEET old dude? Just don't pinch my cheeks!

Hey Americans: The Powerball drawing jackpot is $600+ for tonight's drawing. Better getchya some tickets! (No, I shouldn't encourage gambling; it's a bad habit. The House don't go broke for a reason!)

  chancho: <fredthebear> Try these numbers: 7-14-15-22-24-36.

I played them a long time ago and got 5 out of the six numbers on Megabucks when I was living in Massachusetts.

Who knows?

Jan-05-22  nok: <...Freedom of speach is not freedom to spam.>

If this is true then Albertan, diceman, schwartz, cormier, etc. should have been suspended more than once. Alas we're used to rules applied selectively.

Yes. So how about start using it? Funnily enough, you both just can't ignore him. Also you old (very old) babies keep whining and argue about/with the "usual suspects " all the time.

Oh, the irony. ;)

  MissScarlett: <As to whether the Brits invented American values, I make no comment.>

Is there a single American value that hadn't already been postulated or otherwise enunciated by, to name but a few, John Locke, Thomas Paine, Adam Smith or Magnus Carter?

When it comes to selective outrage, you might be top of the class.

You're the only one I've seen that criticises, even calls for the firing squad, when <Albertan> posts relevant links. <schwartz> mainly posts links to classical music in the Cafรฉ. Not very different from the rest of the content there. The Bible Bot might be a nuisance, but at least he confines his posts to Rogoff and the Cafรฉ. And none of these people posts with malice. <Diceman>, well that is Rogoff. Rogoff seems to bring out the worst in all of us, and <CG> has kept it as is, in a hope of containing most of the crap there.

<FredtheBear>

I'm impressed by your accuracy and historical knowledge in typing out <MissScarlett's> correct pronoun of <s he>:

<Fredthebear: <MS> knows my thoughts on matters. I can appreciate her numerous contributions in general. In fact, s he...>

===

As you, and perhaps only you, know, <s he> hails from the quaint hamlet of <Gramercy on Stoat>, where no outsider has visited since the Battle of Hastings.

You probably already know this, but the correct pronunciation of <s he> is..

<SsSsSsSss Hough EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE- EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE>

Also I share your admiration for <H errrrrr> helpful and generous work rate around here.

What a mensch!

  Sally Simpson: Hi Messiah,

<"I guess it was MissScarlett who spotted and punished the felony.">

I'm pretty sure if it was then wording of the ban would have been more sharp....and the ban longer. :)

Toyed with the idea of posting the same remark on the same game thread in a 'I am Spartacus' show of solidarity. But then I remembered I too was getting a bit fed up with the constant Carlsen baiting.

Once or twice, fair enough, but every loss!

Try imagining the chess scene without him, it would be pretty scaffy. The rest of our shining lights, (the top 20) with the possible exception of Grischuk all have the personalities of a soap dish and a majority of them look like Hiram Holiday.

Happy New Year.

  MissScarlett: Just wait till <zanzibore> finds out I - absentmindedly, note - deleted one of his posts.
Jan-05-22  nok: <Diademas: You're the only one I've seen that criticises, even calls for the firing squad, whenย <Albertan>ย posts relevant links.>

Albertan is the King of Spam. He deals death to many pages by interrupting the flow of conversation with blocks of links we all know/can find in two clicks. And never responds.

Maybe he's autistic, maybe like <cormier> it gives meaning to his life, but admins should keep the site usable. <Messiah> is sociable, never clogs active conversations and spotlights old, often interesting games.

Jan-05-22  nok: Here's my theory:

The culprit is an admin begging for attention, dejected that nobody gives a shyte about Staunton.

Jan-05-22  Messiah: I don't think <Albertan> should be b&, I'm frequently laughing my ass off when seeing their <BREAKING NEWS> style link dumpsites about tournaments happened 43 years before.
