If the whistle is blown and the post violates one of the 8 Commandments. The post will get deleted. If you don't blow the whistle it's a good chance that I might not see it.

Please keep these complaint off the support forum. The support forum is for support, not complaints.

No problem, but complaints on the support forum will be read then deleted.

OhioChessFan: A question about player profiles. This was an edit done by hand for Lorenz Maximilian Drabke

FIDE#809306
was changed to
FIDE#0

It seems to me that any time a date of death is entered into a profile, that should immediately default the FIDE# back to 0 without having to be input by an editor.

Feb-18-23  stone free or die: <<OCF> It seems to me that any time a date of death is entered into a profile, that should immediately default the FIDE# back to 0 without having to be input by an editor.>

I don't think this is a good suggested policy to put into practice, despite it being reasonable, mostly because FIDE really shouldn't retire FIDE id's.

There's a lot of good info on a player's FIDE card, which can sometimes be utilized long after a player has died - at least until FIDE updates the info. Let's hope someday FIDE updates its policy.

So, while we can't dictate FIDE policy, but we should at least wait until FIDE retires the number before we follow suit(*).

I personally think <CG> should keep the player's retired FIDE number somewhere permanently - maybe by redirecting the FIDE link to a notice page once FIDE actually retires the number.

(*) The published FIDE rating lists can be used to automatically detect when an id is actually retired.

.

Feb-18-23  stone free or die: <<OCF> It seems to me that any time a date of death is entered into a profile, that should immediately default the FIDE# back to 0 without having to be input by an editor.>

In this particular case the FIDE card has been already been updated:

<No record found please check ID number>

https://ratings.fide.com/profile/80...

I suppose one could periodically scrape the FIDE card for this message for all deceased players in order to remove, or better, redirect the link.

* * * * *

Aside - if you use the FIDE search box for the above ID

https://ratings.fide.com/

You get this hit:

https://ratings.fide.com/profile/12...

Like I said, FIDE could use some improvement!

And shouldn't such info find its way into the game PGN as well?

I believe lichess has a pgn header for "time control". Ill look into it, see if I can add a pgn header for game-type

Yes, thank you. It's a consideration I've yet to grapple with for Z-base.

TWIC has a PGN tag labelled <EventType>, which I've eyed before, though Mark (Crowther) generally likes to add <Classic | Rapid | Blitz> to the <Event> tag.

Here's a sampling of different <EventTypes> from one of my TWIC files:

< "swiss (blitz)", "swiss (rapid)", "team", "team-tourn" >

FSR: <stone free or die> I often add the <EventType> tag to make clear whether the game is rapid, blitz, or classical, and whether it was played in a tournament. btw, has the site stopped uploading games submitted by users?
Feb-22-23  stone free or die: Thanks Fred for that note.

At some point this topic should get brought up on the Bistro, and a proper survey of de facto usage of the various other db's made.

The link below explains how to upload or request, to upload games:
PGN Upload Utility

Usually, if its a lot of games or a tournament, You can let me know on the support forum and i will get to it as soon as possible:
support forum:
chessgames.com chessforum

Please include the link to where I can find the games in PGN format. It will help get the games up quicker

Some of the sites I recommend to find reliable PGNs would be:
TheWeek In Chess:
https://theweekinchess.com/a-year-o...

chess24.com:
https://chess24.com/en/dashboard'

****

P.S. The FIDE rating of the player must be over 2200 for us to upload games

FSR: <petemcd85> I know how to upload games to the site. Hundreds of games on this site were submitted by me. However, for the past week or so, some of the games that I have submitted have not been added to the database for some reason. Is this because the games were played by me or another player whose FIDE rating is below 2200? If so, that is a departure from prior practice of many years standing. Who authorized this?

Hey <Z>, there is a timeControl tag I can start adding to the games PGN. See link below (Scroll down to 9.6 for timeControl tag)

https://opensource.apple.com/source...

Feb-24-23  stone free or die: Yes <pete>, it's one of the new tag contenders. It's on my todo list for further investigation.

Though I strongly recommend *against* starting any canonical tag with lowercase letters (that allows an easy way for users to distinguish "private" tags from system standard ones).

Feb-25-23  arctos horribilis: There would be a few choice games to feature from the current //𝗪𝗥 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀// tournament, but I've learned Chessgames is more focused on word play instead of chess play. Too bad.

Also, has anybody looked at the online help lately? It seems rather out of date.

The tournament games are arriving here quicker than last time I checked, though I still mostly use chess24 for viewing.

Feb-26-23  stone free or die: Question for admins-

While I was searching for this forum ChessBookForum chessforum, I got a weird 502 HTML error message from the Securi Firewall web service:

https://sucuri.net/

Is <CG> using this service? If so, are such error messages expected?

Feb-27-23  technical draw: I've just received a notice that my premium membership will expire in a month. However I am paid up until March 2024 so I still have a year left of PM. Please fix this before I hire Johnny Depp's beautiful lawyer to represent me. Ipso facto, nolo contendere, and habeas corpus.
