 | | Susan Freeman: I thought so too. In the process of contacting him and finding a solution. |
|
Oct-03-25 | | stone free or die: AFAIK the problems I've encountered have *nothing* to do with ads. <Steve> is likely aware, as <CG> was working for a bit, but then broke again. He did say he might have to back the fix out, after all. |
|
Oct-03-25 | | Schwartz: Could someone ask Steve, or could someone who understands these things, explain to me why webpages commonly draw near half a gig of ram on chrome? I'm using Firefox in Ubuntu and I don't have that kind of information anymore, I assume the memory draw is unchanged, but my browser was crashing several times a day, earlier. I don't like a large screen with its accompanying workspace, but tabs seem to fail. |

 | | stevemcd87: We've made an update that should resolve the "Max challenge attempts exceeded. Please refresh the page to try again!" error on phones and tablets, which appeared to be the most affected. <Integrity> <z> Have you experienced this error on your desktop/laptop as well?
Sorry for the inconvenience. |
|
Oct-03-25 | | stone free or die: Just on desktop PC for me.
Server bounces any contact out with max'ed out (some kind of try) message. |
|
Oct-03-25 | | stone free or die: "Max challenge attempts exceeded. Please refresh the page to try again!" - yeah, that one. PC - both chrome/firefox, for both normal/incognito first contact (i.e. no user cookies from login) |

We've made another update. Let us know if the problem persists. <Schwartz>
I notice high memory usage when ads are being displayed. We'll reach out to our ad partners to see if there is anything they can do help. |
|
Oct-03-25 | | stone free or die: <steve> thanks, I'll let you know in a day or two how the retry goes. (I'm assuming all is ok though!) |

 | | Tabanus: <Steve> The Elo's of the players in Espoo Zonal (1989) are totally wrong. Instead of sending in 91 correction slips, is there another way? For example allow some editors (me) to edit WhiteElo and BlackElo in the adm. game editor (and not only Event, Site, Date, Round and ECO). |
|
Oct-04-25 | | The Integrity: Just on the iPhone. It's not happening today though. |
|
Oct-04-25 | | The Integrity: Mine was max challenge attempts. It was just reloading in quick succession and crashing. |

 | | DaltriDiluvi: Bug report: I'm accessing chessgames.com using a Chromebook. Earlier today (11.20 AM UTC, to be exact) I was clicking around in the Opening Explorer when suddenly, I got this message: "You have made too may requests.
It may take up to five minutes to access Chessgames.com again You may Login or Register for unlimited access. We apologize for this inconvenience." The thing is that I'm already logged in, and I've also payed for a subscription. Therefore, giving me a five minute "ban" (or whatever you may call it) makes no sense. Please fix this bug. |

 | | offramp: I'd like to see more forums like "Old Benoni" (that was on the homepage today), AND we could have pages for common Endings, e.g. Rook endings |
|
Oct-07-25 | | Rdb: <The Integrity: boooooooring!!!!!!> <The integrity> is still suffering , weeping.. he should be helped , it is painful to see him suffering , weeping Earlier , he was non stop weeping : ' <Susan, Susan, we need new libs. Make this page public >.' <Susan freeman> obliged him but he still weeping. I am sure admins would do something to ameliorate his suffering . As a compassionate community , let us help him stop weeping . Amen . |

 | | Susan Freeman: <DaltriDiluvi> The bug should be fixed now, according to Steve. Please let us know if it continues. Many thanks |

 | | DaltriDiluvi: <Susan Freeman> Oh, I should be the one thanking you :-) |

 | | MissScarlett: The <GOTD> title is broken on both the front and game page. The bracket problem again. This issue has still not been attended to! Should be: <Some People Get All the (Tie) Breaks> |
|
Oct-11-25 | | stone free or die: [Old news - I promised a post about the Max Challenge problem fix from about a week ago - and yes, all was well in my recent anonymous logins] |
|
Oct-11-25 | | stone free or die: Thanks <steve> |

 | | stevemcd87: <Tab>
You can now edit the Elos on the game page. Let us know if you run into any issue.<z>
Thanks for the confirmation |

 | | Tabanus: <Steve> Thanks. It seems to work. I've started on Espoo, but can't promise all the games in all events :) Ratings can be off by 5 or 10 points from OlimpBase's Elo lists, no big deal IMO. But sometimes (I can't say how often) national ratings are given, and they can differ a lot, 100 points or more. |

|
Oct-15-25
 | | offramp: Yeah the time after each move. Normally 5 years. |
