 | | Annie K.: <What's being worked on at the moment then?> Responsive layout - making the site look good on any device, not just the desktop / mobile options. Plus improving efficiency of various scripts. |

 | | MissScarlett: So no overhaul of the game submission and corrections functionality that would transfer powers over to the long suffering editors? |
|
Mar-13-20
 | | Annie K.: You want to suffer even more? :) |

 | | MissScarlett: A problem shared is a problem multiplied. #shesmysister |

Mar-14-20
 | | Annie K.: Aye, that's a problem... ;s |
|
| Mar-19-20 | | jingohanson: I volunteer to help operate Chess Bookie. I have some experience and more time now. |
|
Mar-19-20
 | | Annie K.: <jingohanson> thanks, I will contact you. |

 | | MissScarlett: Remind me...what's the maximum no. of games per collection? 200? |
|
Mar-22-20
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<MissScarlett> with the chess game collection in the Library: At least 400, and I seem to remember that figure may have been updated to a higher figure. |

 | | Diademas: Sometimes, and especially when quoting, parts of it ends up as strange characters and symbols. Is this my browser or a known phenomenon? Here is an example on something that looks strange on my computer.
World Championship Candidates (2020) (kibitz #633) |
|
Mar-22-20
 | | Annie K.: Thanks <Jess> I seem to recall 400 or 450 for Premium members too. <Diademas> it's a well known issue, especially with symbols that slip into text that passed through MSWord at some point, which has a nasty tendency to "upgrade" regular symbols into its own "fancy" versions, that other programs, including web browsers, then can't read. Most commonly the victims are the single and double quotes, though hyphens and other punctuation can be affected as well. Best to keep anything intended to be published online far away from Word. If you want to use a text editor, there's always Notepad. |

 | | Tabanus: <The prize fund is 500,000.> The Euro symbol shows as a dark square with a ? inside it, both at my home computer and at work. |
|
Mar-23-20
 | | Annie K.: Hmm, yeah, it does for me too actually, although it shows up ok if I change the encoding. But we can't ask users to do that... How about this one? |
|
Mar-23-20
 | | Tabanus: €. Mmm, that's better.
Btw Annie, why 29 players in the CG standings tables. Why not 30. Or as I'd now prefer: 32! |

Mar-24-20
 | | MissScarlett: If game scores are amended, care should be taken to renumerate the PlyCount, where required, to reflect this. |
|
Mar-24-20
 | | Annie K.: <MissS> there is a script that runs every 24 hours and fixes all sorts of pgn discrepancies, that may take care of that. Have you noticed any cases where the ply count was wrong after more than 24 hours? |
|
Mar-24-20
 | | MissScarlett: Let's do a road test: Charles Henry Wallwork vs Duras, 1911 Check the submitted correction. |
|
Mar-25-20
 | | Annie K.: OK, done. Let's watch that space. :) |

 | | offramp: Could we have a page and live games from https://tcec-chess.com/ ? Those guys ain't gonna stop and it'll be the only serious chess in the world for a few months. |

Mar-27-20
 | | Diademas: I have experienced that some internal links work on my PC, but not on my mobile device. like in the following: World Championship Candidates (2020) (kibitz #1015) where the three first links sends me to the top of the correct page, but not the post in question. The last one works just fine. |
|
Mar-27-20
 | | MissScarlett: No update to the plycount, as alleged. |
|
Mar-30-20
 | | Annie K.: <Diademas> I suspect I know where the problem is, but it's complicated. :) I found some peculiarities too, particular to tournament pages only. It has to do both with the mobile version of the site, and the fact that our own mobiles ALSO have different settings for viewing pages in desktop or mobile versions as they detect them. Your mobile may decide on its own to offer one version or the other <despite> your site preferences, unless you find and override its setting - and one of the "conflicted" versions doesn't process your ignore list correctly. <MissScarlett> yeah, no update so far, so it's not in the daily updates. But Daniel had correction scripts running at different frequencies, depending on how important the players were - he didn't have the scripts examining the entire games database every day, because of the site load that would involve. So now I want to keep it as a test case for a while longer, to see whether it will get updated by one of the less frequently run routines. |
|
| Mar-30-20 | | technical draw: I'm getting a lot of duplicate posts messages. However I think my mouse is double clicking. Time to get a new mouse. |
