 | | Annie K.: Here we are: Kolisch-Rosenthal Match (1864) The recommended way is using the "correction slip" link that can be found on every game and player page right under the kibitzing box. :) |

 | | jnpope: Thanks. I submitted a request to be an editor (if I'm submitting games the least I can do is fix my own mistakes). |
|
Apr-03-20
 | | Annie K.: Hmm, I guess there's no way around this, I will have to publish my direct email... <jnpope> could you please re-send it to my direct address, that now appears in the forum header? :) |
|
| Apr-03-20 | | Baboon: I have been referred to this forum, as my request appears beyond the volunteers' paygrade: Can we add a picture to W.J.L.Verbeek's bio? A picture can be found on
https://www.schach-chess.com/Schach... . I expect no copyright issues since we talk of an old picture from the 19th century. If it does pose a problem, then please advise me how I can upload an original picture. Thanks |
|
Apr-03-20
 | | Annie K.: <Baboon> thanks for the games you submitted. :) As for the picture, yes, it should be usable copyright-wise. I could forward your request to our webmaster <Sargon>, but I will soon have the ability to upload pictures myself, and I would rather wait for that - I have several other player picture upload requests waiting. Please submit a correction slip from the player page with that link, to remind me. |

 | | MissScarlett: From the front page: <Chessgames is proud to provide online resources for the Sri Lanka Olympiad Chess Team.> Does this entail supporting names greater than 64 characters? |
|
Apr-05-20
 | | MissScarlett: The software allows the displayed date of a game to include the month without the specific day. But this doesn't apparently apply to biographical dates. For instance, George Edward H Bellingham has his DOB as <1874.09.00> but this is rendered in the bio simply as 1874. |
|
Apr-05-20
 | | Annie K.: <jnpope> sent you a response, hope you got it. You should be an editor now. :) <MissS> yes, looks like it's either the exact day or just the year. |

 | | jnpope: <Annie K.> I didn't get a reply to the address I sent from and if you sent it to the address on file... well, I really don't check that account (I just sign-up for things using that account so it collects all the spam, etc.). But I did notice the change and I jumped right in... and immediately encountered a small glitch Biographer Bistro I have no idea how I'm triggering bold text (it doesn't appear to be an option in the Editor's Guide). :-P |
|
Apr-05-20
 | | jnpope: Also, what would it take to get Sargon to make/add the Source tag as an editable field? Pizza and a case of Mt. Dew? |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> Is it possible to merge World Championship Candidates (2011) and World Championship Candidates Final (2011) without losing the kibitzing? It was one KO event (under the former name), not two separate events. |

Apr-07-20
 | | Annie K.: <jnpope> I replied to the address you sent from. Perhaps if you would whitelist the @chessgames.com domain? Anyway, welcome aboard! :)
The bold text works only for short lines, AFAIR - because it's meant for section titles, not whole paragraphs. As for correcting the source tags, please just submit correction slips from the game pages. :) <Tab> it's possible, but for now my interface can't do it, so request forwarded to <Sargon>. <Stonehenge> also forwarded. |

 | | MissScarlett: <The software allows the displayed date of a game to include the month without the specific day. But this doesn't apparently apply to biographical dates.> Now I find that it does in the case of the DOD: John Finch |

Apr-08-20
 | | jnpope: <Annie K.> The address I sent from is open to receiving mail (no black-list/white-list set-up from that account). So I'm not sure why I wouldn't have received it unless the controlling ISP is having it filtered out (or my wack-job government could be these days... who the heck knows WTH they are up to). As for the Source tags, sure thing. I just went with the easiest path when submitting the fourth game from that match (I'm a programmer, we are inherently lazy). Any chance of Sargon adding the Source tag to the editable fields at some point (my bribe of pizza and Mt. Dew is still valid)? |

 | | Annie K.: <MissSherlock> we're going to figure this, uh feature, out sooner or later. :) <jnpope> Some years ago, Daniel told me that cg mail got blacklisted, apparently over the seasonal newsletter "mass mailings". He managed to straighten things out with gmail and other major email providers, but some smaller ISPs could have been overlooked and may still have us blacklisted. One of the reasons we have pretty much given up on seasonal newsletters. :( I was wondering if, for those who are still blocking us, specifically whitelisting our domain on the receiver side might help. BTW, if you find a way to get Sargon to do anything, please do let us know - we would be very interested. ;s But as for the Source tags, no, I don't believe editors should have this specific ability. In most cases only the uploader knows what their source was, and in most cases, the purpose of editors' abilities is not given in order to edit their own submissions only. Please just try to get it right ab initio, or submit a slip. The editors *will* be given additional abilities (the ability to see the tid number any game belongs to, whether the tournament is in the TI or not, was a major recent improvement!), but I would like to beef up security and automatic documentation first (that log for admin actions that <MissS> and <Jess> keep asking for...) ;) |
|
Apr-08-20
 | | jnpope: <Annie> I couldn't possibly care less where a submitter found a game so much as being able to provide a source for authentication purposes. If the submitter provides one it's a bonus. If not provided I think an editor should be able to provide a source. Posting source information in the thread will quite often get lost in the body of a long thread. And as CG offers a Source tag it would appear to be where that data should belong... seems logical to make use of the editor community to make the data better instead of flooding the game fix queue with Source additions. Just my 2ยข. |

<Annie>
<(that log for admin actions that <MissS> and <Jess> keep asking for...)> There may have been a minor miscommunication here. It was a "dog" for admin actions that I've been asking for. I haven't been idle on this front! According to my research the "Jack Russel" brand has been proven by science to be the best chess editor assistant. |
|
Apr-08-20
 | | Annie K.: <Jess> Pretty sure cats would be better? <jnpope> maybe you're right. In any case, this question won't really be on the table until a thorough automatic documentation gets set up for every action the editors are enabled for. Then we will discuss which fields will be included - in the Bistro please, this forum really isn't the right place for editor talk. :) |

 | | jnpope: <Annie> Non-editor question: Do you know if the Sterling-Vazquez match games got into the submission queue or should I resubmit them? My browser was acting funny at the time and I'm not sure if the form posted correctly before the Waterfox tab crashed. I'm still working on how to get email from CG through my ISP. I _think_ I can use a faux account that forwards mail to my primary email address. And as it would be coming from another domain it might squeak through. |
|
Apr-10-20
 | | Annie K.: These are in: Sterling - Vazquez Match 1 (1894) & Sterling - Vazquez Match 2 (1900) That mail idea may work. Let me know when you want to test it. :) |

 | | jnpope: Can the CG software handle a PGN with "pass" moves? In ChessBase you can generate a "pass" to allow for things like Italian forms of castling without resorting to bizarre piece dances to get to the correct position: [Event "Padua ITA"]
[Site "?"]
[Date "1864.09.??"]
[Round "?"]
[White "G. B. Maluta"]
[Black "Adolf Schwarz"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "C42"]
[Source "Le Sphinx, v1 n15, 15 November 1865, pp233-234"]
[PlyCount "37"]
[EventDate "?"]
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Bc4 Nxe4 4. Nc3 Nf6 5. Nxe5 d5 6. O-O -- 7. Re1 Be7 8. Nxd5 Nxd5 9. Nxf7 Kxf7
10. Qf3+ Bf6 11. Bxd5+ Kf8 12. b3 g6 13. Ba3+ Kg7 14. Re7+ Bxe7 15. Qf7+ Kh6
16. Bxe7 Qe8 17. Qf4+ Kg7 18. Bf6+ Kf8 19. Qh6# 1-0
Would this work in CG or would it break something? |
