Can you give me the title and author of that book? I'm making a list of books to order on my next vacation to Canada.

I'm also getting the one that <Eyal> is reading about <Fischer>.

Very interesting game, specially to me since the guy who lost has the same chess rating as I do.

Did you see that his losing move-- the move that allows the beautiful mate-- was a terrible blunder, and that he had a forced perpetual check and a sure draw?

But he grabbed the pawn instead--

Sounds just like me, oddly enough.

Dec-31-08  Woody Wood Pusher: Here is a link to that book <JFQ>

http://www.amazon.co.uk/White-King-...

If you can pick it up for under ten pounds I think it is well worth it!

Dec-31-08  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> The SQUAB may yet be able to fly into the <cookie jar> without fear!

I just looked at a new line in my forum.

At least I think it is new...it's really late here right now and I may be hallucinating.

hehe

Dec-31-08  Woody Wood Pusher: In a hasty midnight analysis session <Boomie> and I have concluded the <Cookie Jar> has just been dealt a serious blow!

But then, we all know how reliable those sessions are!

hehe

Actually, investigations into the mystery of the <Blue Elephant> are enhanced by drinking.

Also by sniffing glue.

Happy New Year!!>

<My Dear Queen>,

In that case, I will direct my full power towards the study of the <BlueElephant>. But I'll need a trip to the liquor store first...

I'll say Happy New Year to you now, because by the time it is New Year here, it will be old news there (assuming you are still in Korea).

Love,
<Your Bishopness>

  jessicafischerqueen: HAPPY NEWT TEAR EVERYONE!!

<All, always the same,
But there appears in the shades of dawning,
Though your eyes are dim,
All of the pieces in the sky.

All, <<<all is not lost>>>,

And light appears in the shades of dawning
When your eyes can see
Order the pieces, put them back, put them back.>

Jan-01-09  madlydeeply: Best wishes ma'am in new year and all.

Jan-01-09  Woody Wood Pusher: <JFQ> This is the year you adopt the Caro-Kann as your main 1.e4 defense!

I can feel it!

hehe

Jan-01-09  BishopofBlunder: The Caro-Kann has always seemed a passive defense to me. Is that a valid observation or just the misgivings of a patzer (me)?
Jan-02-09  Boomie: The Caro-Kann appeals to positional players who like black's superior pawn structure. The trick is to survive white's initiative. A plan to defend the Panov-Botvinnik attack is especially important. Although the main line involves Bf5, I preferred Petrosian's Nbd7 followed by a timely c5. But there's no accounting for taste.

Here are Flohr's C-Ks which gives some sense of what's involved.

Jan-02-09  Boomie: Here's the Petrosian C-K collection. The Nbd7 line comes under a variety of aliases such as Steinitz or Karpov. This is a fine collection for studying the C-K.
