Oct-08-11 | | Hugin: <Anders Gideon Tom Ståhlberg (or Stahlberg) (26 January 1908, Gothenburg – 26 May 1967, Leningrad) was a Swedish chess grandmaster.
He won the Swedish Chess Championship of 1927, became Nordic champion in 1929, and held it until 1939.
Ståhlberg came to fame when he won matches against star players Rudolf Spielmann and Aron Nimzowitsch in 1933 and 1934 respectively, and came third (after Alekhine) in Dresden 1936, and second (after Fine) in Stockholm 1937. In 1938 he drew a match against Keres.> As u see you can spell it Stahlberg for non Viking speaking people hehe...I really can't come up with a accurate way to pronounce it for those not trained in danish swedish norwegian etc..But belive me Å sounds more like a variation of O than A but that's not accurate either.. For the record in the old days AA was used instead of Å but that does not sound alike either hehe. Short said you guys does a tremendous job with you'r research production of those videos and no one will be offended if u can't express Å correctly. If some bother u guys with that kind of nip pitching, ask em how many languages do u know use write read speak? That normally stops unconstructive critiques. Expecting individuals with no training in scandi languages, to pronounce it correctly is similar to expect elephants to fly hehe. Good work folks:). |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Hugin> thanks for the information, kind words, and especially for that video. Norwegian letters! Who knew?
Did you notice the top comment on that video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l23C...
<so far my quest to find an ugly scandinavian girl has failed. Im moving to sweden> How do you say "Ooh la la" in Swedish?
<Short said you guys does a tremendous job with your research> Do you mean Nigel Short? Was he talking about <Annie K>'s Chessmaster pronunciation channel on youtube? http://www.youtube.com/user/AnnieK1...
<Hugin> please let me know where you saw this comment, and who this mysterious "Short" fellow is, when you get a chance. By the way, I enjoyed your limericks yesterday very much. I thought <tpstar> and <SugarDom> also showed a lot of limerick talent. Humor is a good way to ease tensions during a civil war, so hats off to you yet again. |

Oct-08-11 | | Hugin: Lol yes moving to Sweden.. hehe the commentator on that video probably missed Sweden and Norway is not the same country and slightly diffrent in language. Ah Short sorry for bringing him into this i doubt he speaks either Swedish Norwegian or Danish hehe. <"Ooh la la" in Swedish?> Try without a h or TRA LA LA may also do...Lol we all know what it means when we hear it whatever language or accurate spelling. |
|
Oct-08-11 | | Hugin: Btw the limericks was not mine, but they kinda was useful in the situation. |
|

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Hugin>
Aha- so when you typed "Short said", you meant something like "In short..."
or "To sum up..."
Like that?
Where did you find those Limericks? They might come in handy again. |
|
Oct-08-11 | | Hugin: Concerning the expression short i used, yes u are right... The limericks? I just searched for <funny limericks> and the sites jumped up on my screen from www...Like this one http://freewebs.com/limericks/ Mind u i used the funny ones of em suited for the situation. You probably noticed i did not engage in a personal vendetta when some tried to make me, but just continued to post limericks. |

Oct-08-11 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> Quick chess question for you: what do you think of the Philidor as a response to the Scotch game? And if I may propose a limerick: A funny defense is the Philidor:
It's better than some give it credit for.
When you play 2...d6,
White's expecting no tricks--
But it's sneakier, even, than semaphore. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <harry> that <Kills> song is tremendously good- I'm glad that genre is making a comeback. However, I'd rather have just seen the band performing it on screen, I found the "fight narrative" to be obvious, tedious, pointless, and idiotic. I find 99.9999999 percent of "music videos" to be unadulterated crap. By that I mean the visuals, not the tracks themselves. One of the reasons <The Beatles> videos are so great is that they typically show the band in action. Of course, they were before the "MTV" age, so annoying "video directors" weren't around to cock everything up. If you're going to "make a video" for a song, at least put something strange and original on screen. Here's the kind of video I like- (I like the track a lot too) <Chan Marshall> "Nude as the News"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-om...
Looks like it was made in Chan's basement for around 10 dollars. That's the aesthetic I like best. |

"The Soviet Chessmaster Rashid Nezhmetdinov was one of the most feared attacking players in chess history. Although not well known in the west, he won many brilliancy prizes and defeated most of the best players of his era, including Mikhail Tal, Boris Spassky, David Bronstein, Efim Geller, Lev Polugaevsky, Isaak Boleslavsly, Salo Flohr, Andor Lilienthal, Gideon Stahlberg, and many other strong grandmasters."
