Aquinas describes five proofs of the existence of God.> _______________________ 1. So there must be a first motor (a motor that is not itself moved by another). It is God.>______________________ 2. | Jan-20-13 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> My hometown library has my books. They even have the manuscripts. But I wouldn't know about any other libraries--probably not. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Lee> trust me it's worth looking into further. Libraries will take books, you could be like "PGP Appleseed" branching out to libraries across the country. Make a list of good libraries out of state and send them first a letter and then the book after they agree to stock it. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <jfq> Just wanted you to know I'm redoing one of the USSR Championships: Game Collection: 0USSR Championship 1939 I found a file of Botvinnik's games with many of them dated, including those from this tournament. Unfortunately, there still seem to be a large number of games missing. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Phony Benoni> thanks for the heads up on still more pain staking work. Coincidentally, I was just reading about the <1939 USSR Championship> in relation to the bio I'm re-writing for <Vladimir Petrov>. A stunning second place finish for <Kotov>, who would then proceed to tank- badly- in the <1940 USSR Championship>. Andrew Soltis is of the opinion that <Kotov> had so many different things on the go at the same time that he could only concentrate intermittently on winning chess games. As you know, he was a voluminous writer, and he later had many time consuming duties for the Soviet Chess Section. He was often enlisted as a "handler" to make sure the players behaved in proper Soviet manner at various tournaments. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Friends!
Please, no religious or political topics or discussion in here, and no sarcastic statements about someone in here you may not like. This forum is for chess and for messing around with my friends, in a light hearted manner. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <krmr> I love you, but please don't post any more articles in here that could even potentially serve as a springboard for a religious or political discussion, ok? Tks- krmr

You just ruined my plans to declare myself God King of the 3rd Dimension and subsequently use my power to declare war against the Amish, which is a good thing, because they are like so technologically advanced. ;) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <BiteWit> long time no see! I see you have adopted a <Chairman> avatar. Is this a religious conversion, an attempt to coopt Chairman from the Pilipino fans, or an ironic comment? (Long may Chairman prosper) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Also, don't call me "luv."
Only <Travis Bickle>, <Mark Finan>, and <Harry Lime> are allowed to call me "luv." I paid for this forum and if I choose to run it like the North Korean government, I'll do so. I doubt I'll go the "Full Monty," however, a la <AJ Foyt>, and delete everything so that all that remains is 300 pages of only my insipid avatar glaring at everyone. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <My Dear Bishop> yes, ironically the only thing the Communists didn't break was world chess. Despite the collusion at Curacao Candidates (1962), overseen by the Dragon Queen <Rona Petrosian>, the Commies forced everyone else to follow them to a new level of chess excellence. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Tim> HOU is great, but she's getting a bit of a reputation of a "poor woman's Judit Polgar." Remember when Judit got invited to all those Premiere men's events? She actually used to win games at them.
On the other hand, HOU will no doubt become stronger by getting pummeled by <Hikaru Nagasaki> and other superstars. |

| Jan-22-13 | | waustad: The Amish/Mennonites I've been around are interesting. I almost understand when they talk but between my poor (somewhat Austrian) German and their archaic Swiss German I understand words but not conversations. I took a bus to Columbus with a group of them and chatted up the only one who would talk to "English". There was one person who drove a car with many people in it to the bus stop, though I am aware that there are other folks who would have none of this in such communities. There is actually a collection of crime novels by (if I recall correctly) Linda Castillo, that have an expelled Amish woman as the police chief in a fictional town outside of Coshocton, Ohio. I've read a lot worse in the genre. |

| Jan-23-13 | | twinlark: Great contribution to Petrovs' memory to tell his story in the bio. Well done. |
|
| Jan-23-13 | | playground player: <Jessicafischerqueen> I salute you as a chess historian, and all of our <Esteemed Colleagues> who are doing Petrov research with you. Meanwhile, my article on Locke, entitled "Is It OK for Christians to Like Locke?", is scheduled to appear in the next issue of Chalcedon's print magazine, <Faith For All Of Life>. I think it'll wind up getting bumped to a later issue, but that's another story. As for the title--well, what the heck: I like Locke, and I think my readers should, too. But I am writing for a staunchly Calvinist audience, so I had some hard arguing to do. "Staunchly Calvinist," by the way, does not mean "rigidly unwilling to listen to anyone else's point of view." But you know how quarrelsome Christians can be. PS--I just hate donating my books! It means I'm not getting paid for them. What I really need is for the publisher to hook up with a distributor and get the books into the stores. Which is precisely what they won't do. I have not yet devised a way to force them or trick them into doing it. |

| Jan-23-13 | | crawfb5: Just read the Petrovs bio. Outstanding.
