Apr-11-13  Travis Bickle: Hey Jess, here's the story of how a small black owned record label first introduced The Beatles to American audiences because Capitol Records EMI's American label didn't think America would go for The Beatles sound. ; P http://youtu.be/yKvH78mcX_k

This was the first Beatles record I bought from Gary's Drugstore way back in 1964. I was a wee lad. ; P

Heh "refused to release the band's strange new sound."

<Barbara Proctor> is a Chicago music history hero for this. Is Gary's Drugstore still there? Do all drugstores in Chicago sell records? Can you get a prescription filled in a Chicago record store?

Sad part you told me before is that these small labels who brought Beatles to America didn't get to cash in really?

Law of the Jungle I suppose. Biggest ape gets the biggest pork chop.

Do you still have the record?

Thanks for "Bennie and the Jets" a great song for sure but good luck getting it out of your head for the next three days.

What a genius combination Elton and lyric writer Bernie Taupin.

jessicafischerqueen: <McLovin> I certainly will check that Spanish Snow White out. I did recently watch an English retelling of the more accurate Grim version, but I found it sluggish due to the wooden actor of <Sigourney Weaver> and <Sam Niel>.

Let's hope the Spanish can do better. Actually as you probably already know, Spanish cinema is now perhaps the leading source of high quality new horror films.

This Spanish outing's a bit older, but it puts the rest of the "torture killer" genre to shame:

<Tesis>:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117883...

Gripping story, engaging characters and superb acting. I've watched it three times already. The point of this film is not to watch torture on film, it's to consider why the two main characters are, despite their own beliefs about themselves, drawn to watching torture on film.

Best of the genre in my view and I've sitted through way too much pointless torture films.

Oops grammar is failing, good thing I'm about to go to work and TEACH GRAMMAR.

<Barbara Proctor> is a Chicago music history hero for this. Is Gary's Drugstore still there? Do all drugstores in Chicago sell records? Can you get a prescription filled in a Chicago record store?> No sigh... Gary's Drugs is long gone. No stores hardly sell records in Chicago now or cassette tapes or Cd's. It's mostly all iTunes on the net. Good Grief... They've killed the record industry! You can mostly buy music in Best Buy electronic stores, Target, KMart & Walmart, that's pretty mush it.

Jess American drugstores were so cool way back when in American history, You could buy the latest Batman, Superman or whatever comic book you fancied, or buy Life, Look, Time & many magazines. The smell of medicine in the air had a good smell to a kid in the 60's. You could even buy an ice cream soda in the corner of the shop! Most drugstores didn't carry records but the cool exclusive big ones did! ; P

<Sad part you told me before is that these small labels who brought Beatles to America didn't get to cash in really?> Yes that's the sad irony of it all.

<of the Jungle I suppose. Biggest ape gets the biggest pork chop.

Do you still have the record?> No that gem I think was given to a younger cousin of mine.

P.S. Everything big starts in Chicago! Al Capone who ran Chicago's Mob was the biggest crime boss in American history, Ernest Hemingway was born in Chicago, JFK called Mayor Daley to assure him that he could deliver the crucial state of Illinois for his 1960 Presidential run. Bobby Fischer was born in Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital & a band called The Beatles got their start in Chicago! ; P

  jessicafischerqueen: <Lotsapoppa> Aha!

Now I'm beginning to understand why <Jmrorquioquo> is one of your favorite bands.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNo...

The "Canned Heat" track is superb, I'm going to commit heresy and say it's better than the three disco classics our friends just posted. All of which I listened to today and all of which I love. They are worthy candidates for "best disco ever."

Reason I like this <Jmquiroriccccquoit> outing better is that they are bringing a heavier kind of funk back to disco.

I do understand that disco arose out of funk, but I think the funkier the disco the better it is. I could dance to this track all night long.

The genius is that they are even using standard disco lyrics such as

"The booooogie is for real"

but I have heard many other <Jmorquoidaouaoo> tracks from you and they actually have a very diverse repertoire.

Outstanding selection, as befits a man who took a bullet from Charlie Manson- and lived to tell about it.

jessicafischerqueen: Here is one of my favorite disco songs.

I saw a documentary about <Debbie Harry> and her old fans were outraged by this foray into disco, but in fact it just made here a million times more popular- it broke her to the very top of the charts.

Also it kicks ass.

Right before I feed it into the GOOGLE TRANSLATOR THAT IS.

Good Heavens I'm a lazy girl.
