Apr-21-13  Thanh Phan: If you run into copyright material from youtube, there is a small chance you could find it on http://www.youku.com/

Wikipedia says <Youku's video library includes many full length films and TV episodes from the West. Viewers from around the world can see these films on Youku for free, though often with Chinese subtitles.

Other popular sites such as Youtube cannot display this content because of copyright restrictions, but these laws either do not exist in China or are poorly enforced, enabling Youku to broadcast copyrighted content from their website without license.

In January 2010, Youku implemented a digital fingerprinting technology intended to eliminate copyright infringing content on the site.

Some Youku videos are blocked to international IP addresses because of licensing issues. However, software exists to circumvent these restrictions, including a free software Google Chrome plugin called "Unblock Youku".[15]>

Although I usually wait for confirmation of quality, I have to recommend for your viewing pleasure "The Bletchley Circle". This mystery series scores on many different levels. I can't say more without risking spoilers.

If subsequent shows fall well below this mark, you may flog me in public.

  chancho: Hi <Jess>

I was checking some pictures of Alexander Alekhine, and found an article from 2010 about Alekhine's death in Kevin Spraggett's blog:

http://kevinspraggett.blogspot.com/...

You may have already perused it, but if not, you may find it of some interest.

jessicafischerqueen: <chancho> Thanks very much for that link to Kevin's theory on Alekhine's death.

http://kevinspraggett.blogspot.kr/2...

I have indeed read it and have it, but when you repost I re-read and that helps. Actually, in the video slide show I made about <Alekhine>, I summarized Kevin's article- INCORRECTLY:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44hX...

But what a mensch this <Kevin Spragget> is.

On his blog, he noted I had cocked up his article, but then went on to promote my slide show with a few kind words and then even embed it on his site.

I'm a big fan of "Kevin Spragget- the person" and not just because he's Canadian.

He's a Canadian who had the sense not to live in Canada. How romantic his life in Portugal must be eh?

Apr-24-13  Travis Bickle: <jessicafischerqueen: <tbonesteaks> You know what's so interesting to me about "Dear Prudence" is that it sounds ominous.>

Hi Jess welcome back! ; P

There's a back story to that song Dear Prudence. What happened was when The Beatles went to India to see The Maharishi & delve into transcendental meditation etc. Mia Farrow (the actress in Rosemary's baby), just happened to schedule a get away retreat to the same destination as The Beatles. Can you imagine that? lol!

Mia Farrow brought along her sister Prudence. Well everyone studying under The Maharishi was given a mantra and for periods they would meditate chanting their mantra in a small isolated hut alone. Well Prudence chanted for a long period and didn't come out of her enclosure. She had a breakdown and wouldn't come out. So all The Beatles started singing a song that came to be known 'Dear Prudence', to try and comfort her and get her to come out. True story.

I find it hard to believe they didn't sing it for her there. I've seen both sides of that claimed though.

Thanks- I actually remember that story now because I saw it on the Beatles anthology movie.

But you reminded me of it- I didn't remember the story till you told me it again.

No wonder there's an ominous feel to the song. It has a kind of ominous history, namely the possibility that the real Prudence may have been somewhat disturbed. Or really disturbed.

<China court rules copyright fines for Apple, Chinese court fines Apple $118K over e-book copyright violations The books were apparently uploaded by a third party and sold without the proceeds going to the authors or their publishers. This week's decision isn't the first time Apple has run into legal trouble over copyright issues in China. This was the second batch of lawsuits filed against Apple by the Writers' Right Protection Union.>
