Jennifer Lawrence is appealing to me because she is a tremendously good actor, one of the best to come along in a long time. In my opinion she deserved "Best Actress" for her performance in <Winter's Bone>. Because of that film, I searched and found two of her other movies, <The Poker House> and <The Burning Plain>- both excellent. I am saddened beyond belief that she was the deer in the headlights chosen for <The Hunger Abortion>- which gets my vote for the worst movie ever to win "Best Picture." I say that with no reference whatsoever to the "ethics" of the plot. I don't even care about that. The narrative is predictable, the screenplay replete with cringe-worthy, ham-handed "dialogue," and the acting is flat and obvious. Nothing for her to sink her teeth into here.
The best actor in the world fails with a stinko screenplay. I would be happy if <Suzanne Collins>, who wrote the screenplay, would be honored with a public egging instead of an award. The history of "The Oscars" shows all too often that "The Academy" sometimes knows nothing whatsoever about their own craft. Love Jennifer Lawrence.
Hate "The Hunger Games," which has now become a franchise. Hollywood films are worse than they have ever been, in my view. 99% of them unadulterated tripe. Infantile fare for an infantile audience. |

I like Clint Eastwood too, especially when he directs himself. "Unforgiven" is my favorite= http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105695... Clint: "That didn't scare Little Bill, did it." |

| Dec-04-13 | | chessmoron: <In my opinion she deserved "Best Actress" for her performance in <Winter's Bone>> I couldn't agree more. I feel I was in the film rooting for her to succeed. I can see a great future ahead of her. I was so enamored by her performance in "Winter's Bone", I took my mother to see "Silver Linings Playbook." My mother, who is pretty harsh "amateur" film critic, agreed with me that she is something special. BTW my mother may not know her full name, but knows when I reference her as "that crazy woman" (her character in "Silver Linings Playbook"). :D |

Your mother didn't get where she is today by not recognizing that Jennifer Lawrence is something special. Oddly, she made two low budget horror movies just before hitting the jackpot with <The Hungry Hungry Hippo Games>. I have seen both- they have low IMDB ratings but she was luminous in this one, which I recommend: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1582507... I also just started downloading the only films she's in that I haven't seen yet. I don't begrudge her success, no matter how it came to her. I see she is already booked through 2015 on a very large number of projects, including a remake of "East of Eden."
Maybe she's one of those actors who will just work constantly forever, like <Michael Caine>. Did you know Michael Caine has appeared in more than 30,000 movies? I'm just thinking out loud, but I think <Pee Wee Herman> could do well in the James Dean role. Or maybe <Michael Cera>. <Jennifer Lawrence>: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2225369/... I was going to tell you before about two intriguing films <Michael Cera> starred in for writer/director <Sebastián Silva>: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2928364/... Silva directed two different films "at the same time" with Michael Cera in both. The films are very similar, except one is a mysterious character study and the other is a horror film. They should be viewed one after the other, and I doubt the order is important. I loved both of them- <Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus> and <Magic Magic> |

On excellent Christmas news, <Col Mortimer> and <AJ> have apologized to each other and agreed not to fight. Good for both of them.
Given their 10 years of feuding, to me, this appears to be another miracle. Added to the new rapprochement between <The Focus> and <AJ>, I think cg.com is about to enter a very good new year. Good for all of them, and good for our website too. |

Not bad, but you may have set the bar too high for yourself with the "Fermented's Theorum" pun during the Cheese festival. I might be mistaken but I believe <hms123> pended his patent on the <teacher's wit> pun whilst yours was still at the chemist's? By "cold" you mean "damp" right?
It's 800 degrees below zero here. Ok it isn't but soon it will be. |

| Dec-05-13 | | hms123: <I might be mistaken but I believe <hms123> pended his patent on the <teacher's wit> pun whilst yours was still at the chemist's?> Not only that, but I also get a Candian loonie every time <chemist's> is mentioned. It is part of a settlement I reached after having enrolled in an 8 am Chemistry class as a freshman. Attendance was very optional in my case. I didn't see any other choice. |

Nice!
You may be horrified to learn that Canadians actually say "Drug Store" instead of "The Chemist's"- except for in the little towns on the river between Toronto and Montreal. There, they also have fish and chips shoppes and pictures of the Bloody Queen all over the place. The old bat. |

It just occurred to me that "teacher's wit" is a spoonerism, not a pun. Therefore I have called off my peeps from further action vs Howard and you for your parts in this sorry affair. Consider yourself unsued. |
|
| Dec-05-13 | | hms123: <Boomie>
<unsued>
Most people just think I am <unsuited>. That's generally better than being <de-pantsed>, depending on who's doing the de-pantsing or unsuiting as the case may be. |
