 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Travis Sandoval>
Thanks for that well chosen "set of three" <Mazzy Star> tunes. I know enough about them now to recognize just how well chosen that set is. The first two songs are from their break out record, and clearly their best record, <So Tonight That I Might See - 1993> "Be My Angel" is underrated and the vid you posted has the lyrics onscreen, which is always a plus because Hope Sandoval mumbles lol. Not as much as Michael Stipe, but you should look at the "lyrics sites" to see how many different versions the punters have come up with for the same song. The last track in your set is, as you've previously identified, the strongest outing on their new record <Seasons of your Day - 2013>. This record has many very pretty songs, but it's only "California" that succeeds in reproducing something like the total emotional devastation of <So Tonight That I Might See>. Here is another track from <So Tonight>: "Into Dust"

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Brother <wordfunph>! Heh, yes <Hans> gets a rough ride sometimes but like you, I <Ree>ly like reading his personal memories and stories about his incredible chess experiences. I will check out the book you recommend, since I don't have that one yet. |

 | | kingscrusher: Jessica, you may be interested to know that I am sticking up for Chessgames.com on the ECF Chess forum. I do find it a great resource, but it seems a few there don't share the view very much. http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic... Feel free to chip in - it isn't restricted to ECF members or anything. Best wishes

 | | kingscrusher: Jessica it would be great if you could mention the historical initiatives you are involved in on Chessgames.com. But be warned, some are historians from "chesscafe"

<Anyone who thinks that chessgames.com is a reliable and quality outlet hasn't the faintest notion what those adjectives mean. Garbage in, processed by a monkey troop of howling eejits, output garbage> A bunch of hybrid nut monkey howling eejits here? Say it isn't so. |

Thanks for linking to that "English Chess Board"- I saved it and I read much of it last night- by much of it, I mean most of the site, since there isn't a lot of material posted there. <Leonard Barden> is there, what a gent eh? You made some energetic posts on a variety of subjects, often providing sources and web links to enrich those posts. I wouldn't worry too much about what was said about <cg.com> on that particular thread you linked. Any impetus for us to dedicate more resources to improving those areas that are under attack is a good thing. We should dedicate more resources to those aspects of the sites, in my opinion. 1. Games database
2. Player biographies
That said, I should note that's a selfish interest on my part. I'm most interested in chess history resources at <cg.com>, but they are not paramount in the site <Mission statement of Stately Purposes>. The vast majority of members and visitors here come for other reasons than to read player bios or examine date fields of the games in the database. |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Niels> you've reminded me of a big difference between <cg.com> and other chess chat boards. Ours is popular. Only our webmaster knows for sure, but I think upwards of 15 million people per day log on to our site. What they actually do after they log in is anyone's guess. |

| Jan-14-14 | | Alien Math: Possible troubles,
Court ruling overturns Net Neutrality, threatens online access, experts warnThanks for watching that YouTube video! That will be 50 cents, please. Sound unrealistic? It's actually a distinct possibility, after a Federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down an FCC ruling meant to prevent an Internet service provider -- the company you pay for online access -- from prioritizing some website traffic over others. And because that rule was wiped off the books, those ISPs are suddenly able to do just that. With service providers suddenly able to charge based on the type of content you watch or the sites you visit, it's easy to imagine a system like that of today's cable television market. Want HBO? It's an extra $5. Want our streaming video package, with YouTube, Hulu, TV.com, and more? That's $5 too. Don't pay and you can't watch. Period.

Brilliant post mate. It really cheered me up, in fact. Every so often, someone has to speak up for infinity. As a known (and notorious) "maths enthusiast," you are well suited to act as a spokesIrishman on this topic. Did you know that Myles NaGopaleen was the first spokesIrishman in history? |

| Jan-15-14 | | achieve: <Jess> - I was just randomly surfing and landed at Boomba the Cirque, and found that sentence, didn't quite get it, and "that got me thinking." Moments later I thought of our little inside joke <but for how...> - as a similar type vague expression. Have you already seen a few Wijk aan Zee rounds or games? With La Carlsen and big vlady missing it has lost my premier interest, I must blushingly admit. Maybe Giri can finally break through and win this?
I have my doubts... |

Well I haven't had any time recently to follow the chess events. I do like the way <Giri> plays though. No wonder he is a fan favorite and not just among the NEDERLANDER, though we can't speak for our good friend <Dakar Rally>. Remember how many times it took you to train me how to spell <Wik Van Zee>? |
