 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Hanh> Enjoy your fine national holiday! I will catch up with you when I'm in Canada this February. |
|
| Jan-15-14 | | achieve: Certainly, <Jess>, and now it seems I need to teach you how to spell it! ;) |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Niels> heh...
As GHOD is my witness, I had some kind of <aan> blindness. I saw you typing it correctly over and over and my brain never once processed the word. I was genuinely surprised when, after several earlier futile attempts, you actually "sat me down" and took me through the process step by step. I wonder where that post is even...
Something like
"First, there is NO CAPITAL LETTER"
ahhhh |

<Jan-15-11 achieve: <Jess> A few pointers regarding <pronunciation of Dutch names correctly>Eg you asked about Wijk aan Zee
It's spelled not Ann, but double 'a'-n, and no capital A It sounds like the first part of the vowel in "cry" "die" or "buy" In Korean you have the name "Ahn" right? That's how it sounds, I reckon.> ...
<Jan-15-11 jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> thanks- I've got the <Wijk Ann Zee> now.> ...
<Jan-16-11 achieve: <Jess> First, I'll help you out with the names of course, as you know, but on the condition that from now on you'll spell <Wijk aan Zee> correctly, no more Ann, that's more like "cousin <Ann> from Wisconsin", right? No capital A, but just 'aan' [...]> ...
<Jan-16-11 jessicafischerqueen: Aha- "ann" it is I promise.> ...
<Jan-16-11 achieve: [...] Scuse me <Jessica> but I NEED to vent this- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
<Aha- "ann" it is I promise.> I give up... It's not "cousin Ann"!! - I just explained for the nth time at your place it's a-a-n
aan !!!!

Amazing how do you do that time after time.
Thanks to you, I can confirm that in this one instance, my "memory" had it somewhat straight for a change. The worst part is that I really kept making that mistake- I wasn't doing it on purpose for comedy effect. |
|
| Jan-15-14 | | achieve: <Jess> My guess is that you <just> gravitate a tad more to the German spelling of a number of words, but don't pin me on that one. But Wik is really unacceptable, WIJK aan ZEE might be a reminder, but in the long run what does it matter? Except when you are writing a (historical) article. I am left with patience and a sense of humor. ;) |

Your complaint about the lowlights of the Smyslov page <1. Almost half of the current 49 pages is an argument between <Daniel Pi> and <Plato> about how the other guy doesn't know gud english.> WCC Editing Project chessforum reminded me of the remark
<acirce: If there is an argument between two philosophers, but nobody is watching it, do they really spam the Smyslov page?> Vasily Smyslov |

 | | WCC Editing Project: <Niels Wijk and Dr. Euwzee> heh...
You're reminding me of well over two years ago now when you gave me the link to that great ALL DUTCH, ALL THE TIME web page with hundreds of authentic Dutch pronunciations. I remember forcing Richard to listen to it over and over in order to pronounce "Beverwijk" for the Rossolimo documentary. As for your "Jess works for the Germans" theory, spot on as usual. I'm ready to be corrected by a patented "Owl Swoop," but I "remember" telling someone about this "great German chess website" and then <Daker's Dozen> showed up and said something like, "Funny, I can understand this German perfectly."
It was a Dutch website, of course.
Oh, the humanity... |

 | | WCC Editing Project: I sure miss <acirce>. I didn't agree with his politics, but he was a tremendous, tremendous asset to this website for years. His response to <Mozart> accusing <Edward Winter> of "AntiSemitism" was legendary. I think I already tried to "repost" that once and <Switch> corrected me, or was it someone else.. <acirce> said something like "Oh. My. God." |

And keep in mind "blaxploitation" is the most acceptable spelling of the word. |
