Sometimes it is hard to tell if we are dealing with the "real" JFQ or her evil smoke blowing twin Hetty. This utility can be helpful to tell the difference - http://www.JFQ_Truth_Or_Consequence... Here is some background info on Hetty - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hetty_... |

<Teem> There is only one of us, as any number of socks, the number of which I've long forgotten, will confirm. <Ohio> lol good catch as usual. Of course <Teem's> new additions aren't bona fide accounts. I meant they are now in "the pool" that we may come across in future and use in TOP SECRET blue messages. <Lee> We just play a game in which we try to make a sentence using only cg.com member names. The mystery arises when you start clicking on these names and considering the data. Many made on the same day. Many never kibbutzed. Many never active after the first day. <Ohio> has delved deeply into this aspect of the mystery and I'm sure can supply more detail. It gets stranger than what I've posted here. So it's a game with a mysterious element, to do with the strange motives and behavior that may have gone into the original creation of these cg.com member accounts, and into their subsequent use or non-use by the creators. |

User: Why
User: Why
Finally I change the key word to whatever I need and check to make sure that's a real user by clicking on it in the Preview Kibitz box. User: Amm

<Lee> There's no such thing as spending too much time on the blue letters. 1. Go to the "View another user profile" look up box at the bottom of the page in your profile. 2. Type in a word. If the word is also a cg.com member, that name will come up on your screen. For example, type the word "who" into the box. 3. Click the "lookup" command to the right of the box. 4. Now this page will come up on your screen: User: who 5. Copy the URL address.
6. Now paste the URL address in any kibbutzing box at cg.com, and this will appear: User: who |

On a rare serious note, the classic 3 volume Feynman physics lectures is now online. That a Nobel prize winner would teach an undergraduate course still boggles, but that shows how important teaching was to him. Here is his preface which shows some of the strategies he used. You may find something of use in your work here. http://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.... |

| Sep-03-14 | | playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> I am reminded of the poor guy who spent a whole hour trying to teach me how to cut and paste, only to throw up his hands in despair. Well, let me come back to this when I have more time. It would do me good to learn it. <Boomie> Have you ever read Feynman's book, <Tuva or Bust>? It comes with a record of Tuvan throat-singing. Feynman never quite made it to Tuva, but he gave it a good try. |
|
| Sep-03-14 | | Boomie: <playground player: <Tuva or Bust>> Never heard of it.
I was quite impressed by his little book explaining QED to the layman, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QED:_T.... Although he said that if he could explain it simply it wouldn't be worth a Nobel, he tried anyway. The QED book is amazing in that there is no math in it. There are lots of diagrams with light bulbs, mirrors, and disembodied eyes demonstrating how goofy light is. |
|
| Sep-03-14 | | playground player: <Boomie> Very likely you never heard of Tannu Tuva, or the Tuvan SSR, unless you were into stamp-collecting a long time ago. Tuva's oversized stamps, representing a place some people weren't sure existed, were always in demand. Feynman and a few of his friends became fascinated with Tuva ("the exact geographical center of Asia!") and devoted a fair amount of their spare time to finding out more about it and working up a plan to get there. That's what the book's about. Very quirky little book, and kind of fun. |
|
| Sep-03-14 | | Boomie: <playground player> Feynman was annoyed by attempts to humanize him by emphasizing his drumming and other side activities. He thought, correctly I believe, that physics is one of the highest expressions of humanity. |

<Teem> Thanks for that great introductory essay by Feynman. What a mensch, eh? On other news, I sent you an EMU on 'bidness' when you have time to take a look. I'm aware of Feynman being annoyed by people emphasizing his relationship with his bongo playing friend, since that was mentioned in one of the herd of Feynman documentaries I have. Many of which you linked for me. I'm not sure that's relevant to <Lee's> mention of the TUVA book though- since Feynman himself wrote it. I doubt that enjoying the book is mutually exclusive with recognizing that Feynman thought physics is one of the highest expressions of humanity. I think he was a menschidimensional sort of fellow. |
|
| Sep-04-14 | | Boomie: <Jessie>
Yes, there isn't much connection between the Tuva book and my post. However note that the book was written by Ralph Leighton, a friend of Feynman. And it was published two years after Feynman died. But it does seem like the kind of ditzy stuff that attracted Feynman, who had his hand in just about everything. |

Thanks for the great Tom Petty song- I never heard that one before either. The John Lennon song is even better, with a "Beatles sounding" guitar intro. When was this song recorded? |
