Yes. We're all locked and loaded and have put out decoy cookies to lure that evil Santa into our trap. What good is a holiday without a little festive ordinance?

BTW - Did you miss my last secret massage? It was just a reply to your last Big Bird but I kind of expected a response since I asked a probing question and just on general principles. Or did I stick my foot in it again?

Jan-03-15  playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> As one of our premier chess historians, I wonder if you've ever read <The Chess Players>, a novelized biography of Paul Morphy by Frances Parkinson Keyes, published in 1960. <Mrs. PGP> gave it to me for Christmas, and <OCF> and I have been exchanging brief comments about it on my page.

Keyes contends that Morphy was some kind of secret agent for the Confederacy during the Civil War. My first reaction was, "Oh, please!"

But it's a book backed up by amazingly thorough research, and maybe, just maybe, she's got something there that everybody else has missed.

It's also an exceedingly long book, and my reading hasn't yet taken me near the outbreak of the war. But Morphy's family had ties to some of the leading figures of the Confederacy, including Judah Benjamin, General P.G.T. Beauregard, and diplomats Mason and Slidell--whose forcible removal from an English ship, by a U.S. naval vessel, almost brought Britain into the war.
