Jan-04-15  playground player: <Jess> Oops, here I am again, with another question for your highness.

Who the heck is Stan Vaughn?

He has a vanity press book on amazon.com, <Paul Morphy, Confederate Spy>, which, although he describes it as "award-winning," appears to be a total piece of bilge.

He also claims to be the reigning world champion of chess, succeeding Bobby Fischer, according to some parallel-universe chess federation. He supposedly holds all kinds of awe-inspiring records as a chess master, but he isn't in the CG.com Player Directory.

Is there any actual substance to this man, or is he just a mountebank living in a dream world?

Jan-04-15  playground player: <Jess> Never mind. Further reading has revealed Mr. Vaughn to be a humbug. His World Chess Federation is a scam, and he's done a fair amount of harm to chess--not to mention the people he's done out of their hard-earned money.

Jan-22-15  Abdel Irada: Hi.

I know I haven't visited in a while, but I have a question. (Two, actually.)

1) Was it you who renewed my premium membership?

2) How old is <HeMateMe>? I'm pretty sure he's not being truthful when he says he was "in diapers in the '60s," and I'm also pretty sure I've seen you say he was older than that.

But do you know of any post that would conclusively prove this?

Thanks for that trio of WILCO- you introduced me to that band several months ago, but these are new tracks.

Beautiful honest music- the vocalist in particular.

Here is one of my favorite Lucinda Williams tracks, in case you secretly might like it:

<Abdel>

I like to number my questions too, and also my answers.

1. I didn't buy your premium membership, unless I did so in a fugue state.

2. I don't have the slightest idea how old <HMM> is- It's obvious he is intimate with 60s music, but that doesn't prove anything. Tons of people like 60s music.

3. Remember when we were establishing an elaborate HMM Index? You convinced us to pull the plug on that project, on the grounds that it wasn't really sporting, and also violated a posting guideline.

It was at that point that I began to think of you as a "classy gent," an opinion which I still hold.

Thanks for the invitation to the PREDICTION CONTEST featuring the legendary <McLovin>. I would very much have liked to join, but travel interruptions made that impossible.

Please keep me on the TOP SECRET <Ohio/McLovin> contest mailing list. I will take a crack at the next one.

Daniel did get the draft. He sent me a reply. I think he's busy with other stuff.

Jan-22-15  chessmoron: Hi <Jess>, a little birdy told me your EMU is not working and I'm guessing you have not received my New Year wishes e-card. Well, happy new year.
