<Ohio> <I am still greatly concerned about this. You heard it here second.>

I have Waybacked most of my work here and I keep up with Waybacking new work on a daily basis.

This is hardly a permanent solution, but it does mean that if necessary I can publish my work elsewhere. Several historians who have done a great, great deal more work than me have been grumbling in recent weeks, hinting they may stop operations if management doesn't show some sign that they care about chess history work at this website. To be precise: "caring" by actually processing even one correction slip or one new pgn upload.

Intelligently, these historians don't post these grumblings on the front page. When I did that last week I was excoriated. <Daniel> never excoriated me in public, or private for that matter. The worst he ever did was ignore me, which is often the strongest move in my case.

Sep-30-18  JimNorCal: <jfq>: To be precise: "caring" by actually processing even one correction slip or one new pgn upload.

It's clear that priority went first to controlling trolls. And clearing up breakage. And getting the Puzzle/Player/Game of the Day back on track.

Now priority is given to live games. I can see it from their point of view. Folks are commenting, talking to each other. But now there are duplicate Olympiad games to clean up, perhaps due to Live Games conflicting with uploads of each round's zip file of games.

From my point of view the value of this site is its historical database. But to owner/admin a choice (understandable) has been made to get a user buzz going.

Hopefully additional game collections, and correction slips rise to the top before long.

<T-bone steaks> It's no worries. I'm sorry to hear you are in a "fowl mood." Here is a recent photo of me when I was in a fowl mood: https://jlsreynolds.files.wordpress...

Great live performance of the track from <Band on the Run>, if I'm not mistaken? Is that the original Denny Laine on guitar from <Wings>?

As you might remember from previous episodes, here is my favorite <Beatles> track from <Paul's partner>: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCt...

<Jim> Yes, we taxpayers, at least, are pining for the imperious <Stephen Harper> now. He would certainly make a better Prime Minister than "Skippy."

Then again, so would a hummel figurine, or a decorative dinner plate.

Good colors for test, <The Good Anteater>.

Oct-01-18  thegoodanarchist: Thanks, <JFQ>

My post was a response to this:

jessicafischerqueen chessforum (kibitz #35260)

Quite simply, to change text color you just nest your text inside angle brackets.

There are 8 different colors, and if you nest with 16 sets of brackets you can run through the entire cg.com spectrum twice. Just add a bracket whenever you want to change color

I tried to nest more than 16 brackets (exactly 18), but after running the spectrum twice the remainder of the post reverted to default black.

I also thought of writing <nesting 1...2...3...> but then no one would understand what I was talking about and would think I am crazy.

They <should> think that, but not for this reason.

Oct-01-18  thegoodanarchist: One good thing changed under <Sargon>'s watch.

Used to be, to delete a post, you had to check a check box. Now, the box is checked by default, saving time.

For sloppy posters, this is helpful. Gives them more time to write sloppily.

Agree completely. I always thought that was a pointless step.

Got it. Henceforth, I won't refer to you as a "reader".

I will say you are an "historian".

Newbies will ask, what is up with that <jfq> woman?

And I will reply, she's an "historian".

And they will reply, "Say no more! Wink wink, nudge nudge."

Oct-04-18  Alien Math: <jessicafischerqueen> Yahoo Japan, the last enclave of GeoCities, is scrapping the beloved website-hosting service. In March 2019 -- 22 years after its original launch -- GeoCities will be extinct, according to Quartz.

Yahoo, which bought the platform in 1999 for $3.57 billion in stock, announced the closure on its Japanese website, citing profitability and technological issues.

As a result, Yahoo "regrets" that all the GeoCities content -- compartmentalized into "neighborhoods", as is the norm -- will be wiped from the web along with it. https://www.engadget.com/2018/10/02...

<diceman> <"Fowl" should really know how to nest.>

Heh... it took me two days to understand that, because it forced me to think of two different things at the same time. I have enough trouble with one thing at a time.

I wasn't kidding when I said "I'm not a reader, per se..."
