| Apr-20-20 | | Boomie: <Open Defence> Hello Delhi
Well hello Delhi
It's so nice to have you
Back where you belong.
I was a bit worried about your move to the capital. But now I hear the air has cleaned up nicely. Are you still working there or have you returned to your beloved Bangalore? |

<jameschess> I can't thank you enough for your notice brah. It appears I put the crosstable in from an entirely different event. I believe I have fixed it now, thanks to you. I also re-arranged the presentation a little. Game Collection: Meerbeck 1946 Displaced Persons tournament |

<jameschess> Thanks again for your notice. What a fascinating story of <Evgeny Sadovsky> you revealed on his player page: E Sadovsky (kibitz #1) Thanks to your information, I was able to construct a fuller biography: E Sadovsky Do you have any other information on some of the less well known participants in Game Collection: Meerbeck 1946 Displaced Persons tournament ? |

<Deffi> lol I didn't investigate any of the games from <Magnus Carsalesman's pickled herring barbecue challenge> yet. Might you post the games in question here and give your observations about the <Maximum Louis Vutton> vs <Amish Guru>? Feel free to load FENs in here. I don't understand much chess without pictures eh. Have you been playing any chess yourself? I have accidentally become a passable correspondence player by participating in a dozen or more tournaments over at <Kingscrusher's> correspondence site. My OTB at chess club, on the other hand, has been sinking like an Oil Tanker with a not so slow leak. I'm so glad to hear from you! You can't possibly imagine how much I miss you. |

| Apr-21-20 | | Open Defence: <jess> <Boomie> miss you guys as well moved back to Bangalore but don't play chess anymore the way I used to, I do teach kids chess sometimes, though i phone it in and make them watch <Yasser Seirawan> videos on the <You Tub> <cc> can affect <otb> play since IMHO both are very different thought processes, even if engines are not used in <cc> there is a different kind of mental tension and clash in <OTB> play especially in person |
|
Apr-21-20
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Deffi> That's it exactly eh. Sometimes in OTB at chess club I feel like I'm phoning in moves, but I never feel like that on CC. On <Kingscrusher> site there is no engines allowed, but it's an honor system. I haven't ever suspected an opponent was looking at an engine during a game. At the ratings range I play in, I doubt there's any motive for cheating. At <Kingscrusher>, we play for no money and no glory!! I used to rent <Yessir! Seirawan> DVDs to play on the TV. At that time, dinosaurs ruled the earth. Did you ever listen to <Boomie's> video where he phoned in to <Yessir!> during a chess commentary? They were old blitz buddies from Sasquatchewan, Washington State. When <Yessir!> recognized <Boomie's> voice his whole head lit up "UNCLE TIM!" he roared. They used to call <Boomie> "Uncle Tim." At that time no one knew about his Spanish heritage. Imagine their surprise if they'd known he was really <Tío Teem>. |

I hope you are navigating the srs business as well brah. As usual you surmise correctly... just in the last few days my sleepy farm community has had surgical masks galore for all, and today the plastic gloves made a reappearance. I don't go anywhere without them. If somebody gives me trouble, I simply pretend I'm a medical professional. Example. Today I was in our version of TESCOS and a kindly old lady appealed to me for help. In fact, she was at least 194 years old, like our Queen (yes she's our Queen too). She said "Young lady, would you mind getting that tin of lima beans down from the shelf for me." Imagine her surprise when I thundered "Dammit Jim! I'm a doctor, not a sanitary napkin"! I thought she was likely a Star Trek devotee, and would enjoy the riposte. She wasn't, and didn't. |

Help me!
I've gone full retro. I've been playing Zork Grand Inquisitor and enjoying it way too much. The Grand Inquisitor, played masterly by Erick Avari, has banished magic from the kingdom. He's gone a bit over the top. And when I say a bit I mean the max. "Shun magic, and shun the appearance of magic. Shun everything, and then shun shunning." "Who is the boss of you? Me! I am the boss of you." I can't get enough of it for some reason. |

<jameschess>
All of your corrections appear to be accurate.
Please take a close look at the revised tournament collection, to make sure I haven't missed anything: Game Collection: Meerbeck 1946 Displaced Persons tournament I stayed up all night figuring things out- apart from me initially putting the wrong crosstable in, which wasn't even from Meerbeck 1946- when I did type up the crosstable for Meerbeck 1946 listed in Gillam's tournament book, it was also incorrect, as you noticed. Your revised crosstable matches the written descriptions in the Latvian chess column you posted- I translated that with google and included it in the revised games collection. The game scores Gillam gives are correct and match your crosstable, though ironically, they do not match the crosstable he gives in his own book. The reason those three game results you listed are different than what your revised crosstable predicts is that I uploaded those three games with incorrect scores. I will have to submit correction slips for them. The *actual* scores for those games given by Gillam match your crosstable predictions. Anyways take a good look at this maybe there is more to correct? You deserve a lifetime premium membership for this, not just one year. I can't thank you enough sir. |

Ha! Nice one. Bring the Klingons into the conversation if you ever see her again. That would be sure to freak her out. Regarding PPE, nothing much has emerged here yet, at least not on a scale that allows the masses to equip themselves. No masks, gloves, sanitiser … nothing. I kid you not. Without doubt, we’ve had it ‘ard. Openin’ letters wit’ bare hands, lickin’ parcels clean wit’ tongue. All before a 25 hour day down t’ mill. Havin’ t’ virus in yer ‘ouse only entitles yer to knock off 15 minutes early so yer can go home and bury yer dead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKH...
(Great to see Marty Feldman in the original screening … and not to forget the recently departed Tim Brooke-Taylor) But seriously, it feels like our government gets hammered every day over the shortage of PPE in the health service, and so feels pressure to divert every last bit of it away from the public. Not great. Especially when you see footage from places like Japan, where the street food sellers literally give away free sanitiser bottles with each purchase. Oh well … better news on the home football front at least. It looks like NUFC will finally change hands and St. James’ Park will at long last see the back of the much despised Mike Ashley. Leaving aside the ethics of having the Saudis involved, there should at least be some money to spend on players and that will undoubtedly relieve the gloom that is hanging around. |
