NZ Fun Factoid: Clinton and Gore are quite close together in the lower SI. Close enough for there to be a road sign with both names on, a photo of which once reputedly adorned an appropriate spot in a White House corridor.

(PS: not to spoil your viewing, <Jesster-in-chief>, but my UK soccer betting yielded a 50+% profit yesterday. Oh, and don't get too squiffy at the Feast of Arseover celebrations.)

Jul-30-20  Paint My Dragon: <The One True Jessiah>

Well, it’s the end of another PL season. What to make of it? Both ManU and Spurs made it into Europe, but I guess United will be the happier, not least because they have the makings of a decent squad, whereas Spurs must be facing something close to a clearout and rebuild. Some of <PoshNeutrino>’s old squad have exceeded their ‘sell by’ date for sure.

I still can’t forgive <Ole Gunnar Solzhenitsin> for playing his B Team in the <Feeble Aberration> Cup, but it’s some small blessing that they achieved the league placing that he was gambling on. And there’s still this year’s <Yoofa Cup> to come. I’ll be willing him to select <Alfa Romero> in goal, given De Gea’s recent weak-ass performances.

Is it true that <Jan VerticalWrong’un> has now departed WHL? He will be a big loss to a defence that has served the <Harry Hotspurs> well over the years. Reallistically then, you need a new quality striker to take the pressure off Kane and Son, a new midfield (!), a new centre-back, and a manager who shows the enthusiasm that he only appeared to rekindle on the last day of the season. I guess <José> is a whole lot better off-camera than he is on, but even so, he should have learned some more gracious public speaking skills by now.

A decent climax for my <sexual fantasy> frolics this season – first place in one league and second in the other. Somewhat overshadowed by <Mongoose Carlsen> though, who finished <11> out of <5+ million> in the overall competition.

Okay, back to watching chess and YouTube. I might also risk a <Covid Special> down at the local Chinese takeaway tonight. It’s been a long while since I visited and I don’t want them to close down. Best <Singapore Chow Mein> in a 10 mile radius!

OhioChessFan: <In March 1912 at Moscow he won only the second tournament of his career, finishing sole 1st >

I don't really like "only" there, but I get really wordy if I dele it. I lean toward using the noun form "win" instead of the verb form "won". Here's why I don't like it:

Player A finished last in his first tournament but won his second tournament in March 1912.

Player B won his first tournament, came in last his next 10 tournaments, then won his 12th in March 1912.

Which player would this sentence describe?

"In March 1912 at Moscow he won only the second tournament of his career."

If it could describe either, there's something wrong with the statement
