Feb-27-11  morfishine: I hope you don't mind me posting here as we haven't corresponded. I went to check on my friend <OCF> to see if he responded to my recommendation of seeking treatment using alternative medicine and noticed your reference to myself. Perhaps I can provide a little insight into alternative medicine.

There are 3 main treatment techniques: (1) needling (2) herbs & (3) massages. All three attempt to stimulate the body to heal itself. Referencing (1) needling, this technique focuses on two things: (a) eliminating pain & (b) stimulating the body to heal itself. Reducing pain is very important as the body is much more inclined to heal itself in a pain-free environment. Needling stimulates the body by activating certain nerve centers. This is why for example if you have a bone-spur in the heel, the treatment may involve needles in areas away from the heel: perhaps a gland needs a re-charge or something like that. Of course, needling is sometimes done at the point of discomfort.

One last thing I recommend to everyone is doing daily "Chi Gong" (or Qi Jong) exercises. These were developed over 2,000 years ago by the Chinese and serve to keep the bones and organs perfectly aligned. One finds their perfect balance or "Chi". These exercises take 15-30 minutes per day and are very simple. I can say after doing these for 16 months, my lower back pain is gone, my neck pain is gone and I've lost weight.

You may wonder how did I lose weight? By aligning my organs perfectly as a result of finding my "Chi" my metabolism has gone up, while my caloric requirements have gone down. So, I am less hungry and process food intake at a high-degree of efficiency.

I hope this helps with your understanding and again, I hope I am not being too forward posting this.

Happy Chess! :) Morf

OhioChessFan: I will have to take a look at that Morf. I am almost back to healthy but do have some lingering aches and pains.
Feb-27-11  Travis Bickle: Hi Jess I'm responding to your quest for some lesson plans. I remember 1 we had in high school. The teacher passed out a test of no significance but with lengthy instructions. He then said there is to be no discussing of the test you're taking. The form said before you begin answering the questions on the exam please read all instructions before taking the test. Well about 3/4 of the class never read all the instructions because the last line said do not answer any of the questions LOL! The longer you took the test the more ridiculous the questions got. It was funny that at varying times people would re-read the instructions and finally understand and stop taking the test laughing as others plodded on. As I wasn't the 1st to re-read the instructions I thought the others were a lot faster than I at taking the exam before I caught on too. If anything it teaches in a fun way the importance of following instructions with a clear individual mind and not like a lemming.
Feb-27-11  dakgootje: Ah yes, had one of those once as well. Don't really agree though for generally the instructions are the same. Similar to the 'user agreements' for software no-one ever reads.

Generally some stuff like how you will be burned alive and eaten by your class-mates if you cheat, that you should not write an answer of two pages on the question 'Name', how you should not already fill in the result of your test and how there is only one right answer unless there are several or none at all.

By the time you've read and agreed to all that, you've lost a couple of valuable minutes which means you can't answer question 175b: What is the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis?

Feb-27-11  theodor: <<jessicafischerqueen: <theodor>> I can't speak for anyone else, but I did notice something about your recent art. I understand your critique is leveled at political figures from the end of totalitarianism in your country, but the pictures bear a striking- and in my opinion unfortunate- resemblance to Anti-Semitic drawings I've seen from the Nazi Volks Beobachter.> dear Jess, I made a big effort to find something, but didnt succeed! can you allegate a link to see this pictures? thanks

  jessicafischerqueen: Good grief...

At this very moment there is a Korean man outside in the hall somewhere QUACKING.

Yes, quacking.

In fact he's quacking so accurately it may actually be a duck.

QUESTION: What should I do?

Even after four years here, I'm not clear on the "cross-cultural ettiquette" on these cases.

Feb-28-11  achieve: <morphishine>:

<You may wonder how did I lose weight? By aligning my organs perfectly as a result of finding my "Chi" my metabolism has gone up, while my caloric requirements have gone down.> 100% true.

Thanks for sharing that; and your entire body of advice proofs very valuable, in my case, as I immediately was awoken by the Qigong healing potential that I had some experience with in the past.

Qigong also refers to massage as relief for pain, and healing, and you can even do it yourself; self- massage! (I thought I'd drop the word "auto-" and replace it with self- )

I remembered that, as a kid, in the hospital after heavy surgery on my leg, I intuitively started to think of methods to speed up -(there really is no way to stress sufficiently the importance of getting out of a Big Hospital as fast as possible)- the recovery by visualization and massaging, touch, of the hands, doing certain exercises and "meditation" (perhaps I was *just* young enough to not having un-learned it)...

Time for a refreshing course in Qigong, thanks to you, and those in conversation on the subject, <jfq & Ohio>.

Sincerely indebted, but mostly thankful,
Niels/achieve
