Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <kutz> just let me know on my page when I need to get our forum going. I will see a general announcement on the main page as well. |
Sep-05-08 | | zanshin: <kutz> Which article? I've been posting a lot of links recently ;-) |

 | | kutztown46: <z>
It was linked to in one of the (four?) emails you sent me last Saturday night in response to my epistle about Aquarium. It's on my home computer, and as I said, I could not print it. The article was one of those tech-tips type of articles. It talked about how, in Vista, you can assign one of (five?) priority settings to each application that is running. There were techniques discussed for doing it temporarily as well as permanently. You commented that you have your Aquarium set to "low" priority on each of your machines. I want to see if I can leave a screen saver running if I set Aquarium to the lowest priority setting. Next I will try to Alt-Print Screen the article one page at a time and paste it into Word and print it that way. |

Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <kutz> no problem--no despair. that just gives me more time to visit the other forums. thanks--hms |
Sep-05-08 | | zanshin: <kutz> I wonder if it's this: http://www.extremetech.com/article2... I can get it to open. |
Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <z> so can I |
Sep-05-08 | | capafan: <kutztown>Thank you for your reply, your question is well-taken. I still consult on a part-time basis and occasionally a case or client takes an inordinate amount of my time as occurred during the GJT game and my participation was forced to take a lower priority; however, should that recur in the future, I can promise to inform you of the situation and we can make alternate arrangements. Updating the site once a day occasionally is likely, updating the site at least once or twice during a three day move cycle, highly probable . If this is not sufficient, I respect your obligation to the team to seek alternatives. Let me know your decision, and keep up the good work! |

 | | kutztown46: <zanshin>, <hms123> Sure, I can get it to open, too. But can you print it? I can't. |
Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <kutz. yes I can--there is a print button at the bottom of the page that sends you to a print-friendly version--hms (I just printed it out) |
Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <kutz> I don't have direct knowledge, but I do hang out on pages that <mckmac> used to frequent. My guess (and that's all it is) is that he will not be hosting a forum during the GMAN2 game. |

I tried that print button. It took me to a slightly different article. When I try to print that, I get only an adertisement - that's it. This is at work, on an XP computer. At home, on my Vista machine, I get nothing at all. |
Sep-05-08 | | hms123: <kutz> have you tried cutting and pasting the orignal into Word? It worked for me just now. You probably know more tricks than I do. |
Sep-05-08 | | zanshin: <kutztown46: <zanshin>, <hms123>
Sure, I can get it to open, too. But can you print it? I can't.> Yes, but it's pretty crappy because of the side bar .. I hope you're not having printer problems again! |

 | | kutztown46: <zanshin>
I don't think I'm having printer problems. At home, I have a whole new system including the printer. The printer works fine, and I have printed other web pages. When I try to print this one, I get nothing at all, and the browser stops responding. Here at work, I can print, but all I get is an advertisement (probably the banner ad at the top). |

 | | kutztown46: Just tried printing it again, and it worked this time! Argghh! |
Sep-05-08 | | zanshin: <kutz> Damn computers! ;-) In your Aquarium engines tab, check to make sure priority is set to Low -- but I'm almost sure they will be. I think it's the default. |

Sep-06-08 | | dotsamoht: I updated the Sticky. Please let me know of any problems. |
Sep-06-08 | | Red October: < kutztown46 > for example my forum is looking at lines with 5...e6 now does this mean lines with 5...e6 that do not transpose into lines with 5...Nf6 ? since something as common as a Sicilian Schevenigen could arise from 5...e6 or 5...Nf6 or is it that those lines in which e6 is played as opposed to lines with g6 or e5 belong in my forum irrespective whether Nf6 is played ? |
Sep-07-08 | | Once: <kutztown46> I've just posted my first crack at the variation index. As you suggested, I have used my forum header to hold the information. It's clearly early days, but I wanted to get a feel for how it would work. Let me know what you think. My general plan is to update this as soon as possible after GMAN has moved. If I get some free time, I will also update more frequently. What would really help me is:
1. if any posts about variations were made in the assigned forums rather than the main forum - or is that an unrealistic request? 2. if posters would use a standard format for variations. 3. if all posts could start from the position in hand, rather than a line which transposes eventually to the game position. Is it worth putting out a general request to posters amd/or forum managers? Or am I asking for the impossible here? |

Replied on your forum. |

Sep-08-08 | | Xenon Oxide: Argh, Kutztown46. Sorry for slacking off my duty! I simply didn't realize that forums have already been set up this early. Will post them immediately. |
Sep-08-08 | | dotsamoht: The FENs that I posted in each forum this time were the current position. Would it be more useful to post the FEN of the launching point of the forum? For example, for dalbertz I could post
 click for larger viewinstead of
click for larger viewSome posters want Black to appear at the bottom of the board... Is this something I should try to achieve? |

<Would it be more useful to post the FEN of the launching point of the forum?> Absolutely!
<Some posters want Black to appear at the bottom of the board... Is this something I should try to achieve?> That would be a nice bonus. If you can do it without too much trouble, please do. Thanks. |
