Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:
For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).
In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).
The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.
Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.
The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!
Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Mar-26-13		lostemperor: In a crucial 9th round the world record rating holder Carlsen held his own with black vs Kramnik to take sole first place while Aronian lost to Gelfand. Things are getting tight in the Final standings predictions with 5 rounds to go!

Mar-26-13		lostemperor: Radjabov is an important factor in the predictions. Best prediction on Radjabov is <WannaBe> with 7-8 place followed by <chessmoron> and <Slovice> with and average 7th place. Excellent forecast so far!

Mar-26-13		OhioChessFan: I for sure didn't want to see Chucky beat Radjabov. That was painful in my overall standing.

Mar-26-13		lostemperor: It did not help my standings also although while I get older, I always root for the older guys, Gelfand, Ivanchuk, Svidler. Nice to see two of them winning even though especially in the betting ranker a tie between Carlsen and Aronian would have kept my semi-jackpot. I saw a piece of the live commentary where Short says Radjabov plays unbelievable passive. I don't think he is passive but probably want to lure Ivanchuk into mistakes in Zeitnot to have a chance to win with black. It backfired.
