Some years ago I came up with a new but simple system to calculate the final standings of a tournament including all players. This is how it goes:

For each correct standing you'll get a maximum amount of points. Each prediction deviation from the actual player standing in the tournament, will deduct one point from your total (ABSOLUTE RANKER).

In case of a shared player's standing the average standing counts (both actual and in your predictions).

The SQUARE RANKER, squares your predictions' deviations. Here only medals are awarded if the winner s is not the same person s as in the absolute ranker.

Same goes for the The PAIR BETTING RANKER compare all possible pair outcomes of the tournament participants.

The three best predictions will get Real Virtual Gold Silver and Bronze!

Note: only one set of medals is awarded (in the absolute ranker) unless another ranker produces a different winner.

Special thanks to <YouRang> who made a software to calculate these numbers.

Our new contest manager for game results prediction User: Golden Executive during the tournament also ([1-0], [1/2], [0-1])!

or predict the # of moves in User: ohiochessfan organized by <chessmoron>

Enjoy!

lostemperor: I decide to rightfully award <Golden Executive> with a Gold medal from the Norway Chess predictions earlier this year. He would have won the gold in the pair betting ranker if not <offramp> unfortunate had the same predictions copied. As contest manager I see is as my duty to correct that in all fairness and award <Golden Executive> what he deserves particulary since he made a unofficial complaint already since this was second tournament it happened.

Penguincw: Thanks to <lostemperor> for making this contest possible.

Congrats to <WannaBe> for winning gold to increase your spot as 1st on the HOF. Also congrats to <Robin01> for winning a gold medal. With this gold medal, you break the tie between you, me and <SloVice> on the overall HOF...

(User: WinKing)

Congrats to all the other medalists, hope to see you next time (LCC?).

Oh, and congrats to <Golden Executive> for winning a gold medal. When I saw that announcement by <lostemperor>, I was confused at what he meant by that, but I looked in the archives and figured out what happened. You made the right call IMHO. :)

Sep-27-16  WinKing: I am not sure which contest you are doing next <lostemperor> but here are the pairings for the London Chess Classic 2016 coming up in December. It is nice when you don't have to wait till the day of the tournament to get the pairings. Very strong line-up of players as usual.

lostemperor: I have been busy at chess playing a weekend tournament and analysing games but also been following the US elections extensively (where I btw. made the correct prediction one-and-a-half year ago already). Lately I have followed the final part of the Carlsen Karjakin match (the last three games and third rapid play-off) which was of high quality. Now I started working on my opening repertoire again :)
