Feb-29-24
 | | moronovich: Morning, Sir !
Yes with age goes experience and decline (sometimes)): Toughest opponent of them all I suppose. 60 is a big number, for sure ! Says the guy here who turned 71 in february ;) Hope (otherwise from chess;) that things are fine/ok in Iasi ! Here spring is slowly but steady emerging as always and likewsise my favourite passion, bycycling, too. Really looking forward to it, and already on sunday, Paris-Nice will be broadcastet 8 days in a row. Wauw ! All the best and lots of Hoka Heys, my friend ! |
|
| Feb-29-24 | | virginmind: hoka hey, they say,
but who are we to pray,
maybe we should stay
or else become a prey,
hoka hey, you say,
but i don't find a way,
for why i'm born in may,
defeats must go away!
i guess i should just play. |
|
| Mar-01-24 | | virginmind: Ignore it, just one of my ramblings...
I'm fine, thank you, and looking forward to a great start of this spring. Should be great that Paris - Nice bicycling, yes. And an excellent week for you and Hannah. Hugs. |

Mar-01-24
 | | ketchuplover: piece be with you :) |
|
Mar-01-24
 | | moronovich: Thanks, <ketchuplover> who´s been around for a very long time ! Best wishes for the weekend to you. |
|
Mar-01-24
 | | moronovich: Hello <virginmind> ! Hail to your ramblings, as one of my favourites from the seventies, "Ramblin Boy", or something like that, with Tom Paxton. Great memories from France... Also the best wishes to you and Maria and your weekend in Iasi, I suppose.. I am shure you sooner or later will find your chess mojo/skill again ! Hugs to you too. |
|
| Mar-03-24 | | virginmind: Indeed, my friend, there will always be room for improvement, I'll just have to be a bit patient, and wins will arrive in great number, I have no doubt about that. Like, lately, I've only lost five and won two, so I'm on the right track. I will let you know how it goes. In the mean time, March looks and feels exactly like February here. I see in western US wind guts have been up to 305 km/h.
And a big hug from me. |
|
| Mar-25-24 | | virginmind: Hi, and I hope you are fine - haven't seen you around for some time. Have an excellent day, and waiting to see what you've been up to. |
|
Mar-25-24
 | | moronovich: Hillo, dear <virginmind> ! Great to hear from you again and I sincerely hope all is well in Iasi ! Here things are ok and the spring is slowly but steady increasing. The same miracle from mother nature, every year ! Soon Hannah is having holiday for 5-6 days, and we are planning to have a cousy time. And you ? Do you have any plans in particular ? Soon the Candidates are here and I am curious about who will face the depressed Ding... Strange chessworld on this point, n´est pas ? All the best to you and your eastertime. Maria as well ! Hugs
-moro- |
|
| Mar-25-24 | | virginmind: Hi my dear, I am fine and so is Maria. I will certainly follow the candidates, to some extent. Indeed, Ding seems a bit depressed, I hope he will be ok and recover his form.
Holiday for 5-6 days, that's great and I envy you. Maybe some time spent at the sea?
No plans in particular for me, just the usual chess playing, among others, in my spare time that is. Actually, this morning I was planning a trip to northwestern Greenland, to a place called Pituffik, but changed my mind for some reason.
Thank you, our Easter this year will be one month apart, as Maria being a catholic and me orthodox.
Hugs. |
|
| Apr-01-24 | | virginmind: With Pituffik I was having big fun with Chat Gpt, asking about my chances for a trip there, also somehow bringing my Honda Jazz on the occasion for day trips around the place, and also inquiering about best method to get inside the secret facility there to gather some info about stuff etc...I was laughing out loud alone at home for a good half hour at the (detailed and honestly worried) answers I got from the machine...:)
Hoka Hey! |
|
Apr-02-24
 | | moronovich: Goos afternoon my dear <virginmind> ! Hah-hah funny story ! Which reminds me a bit of a married couple who took off in their car heading for Capri and blindly followed their GPS and ended up in the norwegian version of Capri, instead of the classical italian one as planned ;) It is very rainy here but we look back upon some rather nice and cosy easterdays. Right now I am watching a bicyclerace i Pays de Basques with a lot of well known names. Hope you are doing well and see you up the road ! Hugs
Any ideas about the Candidates ? |
|
| Apr-03-24 | | virginmind: Ha ha, we may head to Capri this June too.
No rain and close to 30 degrees here the day before yesterday. The candidates I think will be a mixed affair, with ups and downs, Caruana will win the men competition (and if not, then Gujrathi). In the women section, I have no idea, but probably Tan Zhongyi will prevail, followed very closely by Lei Tingjie. Of course, I may have it all wrong, but this is my gut feeling. Looking forward to some high quality games. Hugs. |
|
| Apr-08-24 | | virginmind: Hi! This weekend we've been in a northern region, visiting memorial houses of George Enescu and Mihai Eminescu. Great feelings and incredible weather. After 4 rounds in Toronto, looks like Nepo is strong though. We''ll see how it goes. As about Tan, things go as predicted :) |
|
Apr-08-24
 | | moronovich: Hello my friend !
Great to hear you have been having a good time in the northern region. Is spring also aproaching in Romania ? Here it is certainly on its way and a great relief for so many people, after an extremely wet period of 4-5 months ): Likewise with bicyckling as the season is well underway with classical races almost every week ! I enjoy it immensely. Rest day in Toronto and it certainly looks promising for Nepo, but still 10 more rounds to go and almost anything can happen. I enjoy to see the young indian stars in action ! All the best and hugs from me to you and to Maria too. |
|
| Apr-08-24 | | virginmind: Oh, I can say spring is in full swing here. Flowers blossomed everywhere, warmer than usual temperatures, birds singing lovely right near my window - what else can one wish?
Thank you and we return the hugs to you and Hannah. Maria is preparing to go to Rome, she will meet there with her younger sister and spend a few days (re)descovering the city. I did follow a bit of bicycling yesterday in the evening, I don't know where it was (too tired as just returned from the weekend trip), but it was a mountainous region (probably not live relay). Those seem the most attractive to watch. |
|
Apr-12-24
 | | moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> ! Great to hear spring also gives you pleasure.
I hope Maria will enjoy her trip to Rome (send her my regards) and perhaps you enjoy having some extra time on your own ? The Candidates tournament looks really good and especially the indians seem to bring something extra to the board. I enjoy it very much and for now, it still seems like an open affair with many of the players in contention for first place. Early days, my friend. All is well here and I send you all my best wishes for the upcoming weekend ! Hugs. |
|
| Apr-13-24 | | virginmind: Hi, dear <moronovich>. It goes like this, I play, I'm winning most of the game, at some point I have +8, and then I end up losing. I'm bound to have a pause from chess. Stay tuned. Thank you, I am about to send Maria your regards. I will most probably have some time on my own, yeah. The Indians, indeed, they may well be the big thing of the future. Hug. |
|
Apr-20-24
 | | moronovich: Good evening my dear <virginmind> ! Hope all is well in Iasi !?
Sorry to hear about your frequently missed wins
in chess. But if there is any comfort in it, I have sometimes experieced the same..without really finding the cure against it. But sometimes the remedy can be to exchange down to an easy winning endgame, but the again : often easier said than done ): Still the spring is coming our way and we have just today enjoyed the forest, which is getting greener and greener each day. And tonight, with just two rounds to go, we have a load of exiting games ahead in Toronto with 4 players in contention for first place. I am looking forward to go deeptonight. And you ?
Do you have some personel preferrences in the Candidates ? All my best and many hugs to you both, and sorry for being a little late in my response. Hugs and Hoka Hey. |
|
| Apr-21-24 | | virginmind: Hi my dear.
3 degrees Celsius yesterday morning in Iasi, but I trust spring cannot be stopped. Maria should return this evening, after a great trip to Rome.
There has to be a cure, and we all know which is it, but of course none has to expect miracles...And why would one need them, as long as this game is a miracle in itself? Enjoy it as we can. Provided, of course, it's a joy.
Preferrences in Toronto, I don't know, as in the women's section my prediction is about to be confirmed, but in the men's, well, not quite. Hm, personal preferrence...that's a tough one. I don't have one. And you?
See you around. |
|
Apr-21-24
 | | moronovich: Morning. Here at lunch.
Thanks for your visit (not Vidit ;). Good to hear about Marias great trip to rome. Hopfully, there is also a road that leads back from Rome ;) Yes, let us enjoy the miracle of chess. C´est le plus importante. Like springtime. No I dont have a stonecut preference, but I root for Naka and Gukesh and hope we wont see Nepo in the final again, at least for the chance and Naka is also a veteran of 36 years old. And soon Liege-Bastonge-Liege is coming up. One of the monuments, a classicin bicycling. So, in a way, it is christmas eve, here in da house ;) Hugs and enjoy the finish in Toronto. |
|
| Apr-22-24 | | virginmind: Hi! It sure was. So Tan and Gukesh were in the end. Bravo for them.
I've once been to Liege, very interesting/modern railway station building. Tadej from Slovenia won that race to Bastogne back and forth, cool. I don't think there are scenic/mountain views, but probably a famous one, as you say. I'm glad it offered you a great feeling.
And to boot, I won a game last night :) |
|
| Apr-22-24 | | virginmind: I like Gukesh actually. I didn't see his chances as big at first. Looking forward to a cool struggle against Ding Liren. |
|
May-03-24
 | | moronovich: Good evening, my dear <virginmind> ! Sorry, I am a little late in my response, but the old body hasn´t been in the most cooperative mood. But things are looking, better though I am not a big fan of heat during the night ): Heuresement the weatherforecast is in my favour now ! Great to see gukesh winning it all, and it strikes me how mature, balanced and humble he occurs. So right now, he may be the slight favourite vs Ding in november. Hope all is well, your chess too, and send you all my best wishes for your weekend in Iasi and see you up the road ! Hugs. To both of you. |
|
| May-04-24 | | virginmind: Hi <moronovich> and I am sorry to hear about your health problems. It's good though that things are looking better and also that the outside temperature is getting lower - they say here's going to do that too, soon. Not my cup of tea, but as long as it's your cup of coffee, I can live with that ;) Yeah, I began to win here and there, it's somewhat getting better, overall. Some degree of self confidence rising. Gukesh, yes, he looks my kinda guy too. I hope he will prevail in the WCC match. I have nothing against Ding Liren but, somehow, he doesn't strike me as quite world champion class (what with his latest results, at least). Neither does Gukesh D., actually, but at least he's got that something that makes you prefer him, I don't know how to put it. Of course, Ding may prove to be miles ahead of Gukesh in terms of chess strength, at least in a long match, what do I know...We shall see.
Long live Caissa! |
