"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Jun-27-24  virginmind: Thank you my dear and same to you, indeed looking forward to meet each other in the final. The Nederlands could prove to be a difficult opponent in the next round, but once we beat them, nothing will stop us from reaching the final - well, with the exception of some very strong teams, but hopefully we will prevail :) Hugs.
Jun-29-24  virginmind: Good luck in tonight's match!
Jun-30-24  virginmind: You had a good match and deserved in my view to get to additional time, but it wasn't to be, Germany confirmed again it is ready to march to the final. Hoka Hey and a peaceful Sunday.

moronovich: Thank you, my dear !

I agree with your conclusions about the match. And what diastrous 3 minuttes, were we went from 1-0 to 0-1 ):. Quite tough to watch, but today the spirit is fine and I wish you a very peaceful sunday, as well

See you up the road and may you enjoy the sunshine in Iasi ¤

moronovich: Good morning, my dear !

Hope your team will find your legendary spirit and beat the mighty dutch ! So for a good performance tonight ! I shall be watching it closely.

Doesn´t your coach look a lot like Alec Baldwin !?

All the best, here from good old DK, where Hannah is turning 65 today !

Hugs

Jul-02-24  virginmind: Thank you, my dear, for the good wishes. And many happy returns of the day for Hannah!

The coach...a little bit, yeah. We lost badly - didn't have a single clear ocasion to score, while the Dutch had 3-4 more...one can't hope to win in such conditions. Oh well, looking forward to the world championship in two years, heh.

See you around. Hugs to you both.

moronovich: Sorry, but you did put up a good fight !

Hope you enjoyed the ride.

And for the first time in ages : no football tonight. Next : the biggest clash till now : Germany vs Spain !

All the best and may you enjoy !

moronovich: Good morning in Iasi, my dear <virginmind> !

All is well here and we are enjoying Hannahs vacation, with still more than 2 weeks to go.

Windy and cloudy and I like it and if its getting too rough, we just go to Tour de France were it is sunny and our compatriot is doing very well and may win it all !

Hope you are enjoying your time in Iasi and I could imagine you are looking forward to the final on sunday, between Spain and England. Spain is my favourite, but anything can happen, n´est pas !?

Many Hoka Heys and hugs with greetings to Maria too.

Jul-12-24  virginmind: Hi my dear, all is well here, thank you. I did follow both semifinals and I somehow share your leaning for the final. After all, Spain has an excellent team and they showed it so far, while England, although with great players, left to be desired (only in the semis they did prove their expected strength and will to win, in my opinion). But we will see. I did follow ocasionally the Tour de France (good luck to your compatriot to win it all!), but more time I've offered to Wimbledon - right now the first semifinal of men. And of course there's this 3rd leg of GCT taking place in Zagreb...

Otherwise, 38 degrees Celsius in Iasi today, and they say it will get higher during the weekend, which I doubt - or rather hope not, as I do have my limits in preferring the hot weather ;)

Hugs to both Hannah and you and hoping for a relaxing weekend.

Aug-07-24  virginmind: Hi and good luck against the Swedes handballers, they appear as rather hard to beat, but I'm sure you have their number...

Later: bravoo!

moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> !

Oh yes, it was a nervewracking match, but in the end our team came out on top and is now facing the slovenians, who surprisingly dominated the norwegians (this is not chess;).

We feel very privelledged to have two such strong teams, as also the ladies are in the semies, facing the norwegians tonight. We are the clear underdogs, but who knows !?!!

We are getteing closer to my favourite months, september and october and Hannah started to work again after 3 great weeks of holiday, we both enjoyed a lot.

Hope you are doing fine in Iasi and your health is good.

Guess you also are following the olympics and I have never witnessed a summer with so much sport ! And soon, in 8-9 days, the Vuelta is coming up !

All the best and many hugs to you and to Maria.

Hoka Hey

Aug-09-24  virginmind: Hi again my dear, I see the Norwegian women beat Denmark, but it was to be expected, as you said. Maybe the men will manage to win their match, who knows? In the mean time I watched the tense final minutes of France's qualification in the final, where they will meet the Americans, as I now hear, after the latter beat the Serbs.

I played some chess with bad results, overall. My rating is spiralling down in the past couple of months. Yeah, quite a lot of sport to follow, lately.
I hope you will have a fine weekend and please send my regards to Hannah.

Aug-10-24  virginmind: Bravoo and good luck in the final!!

moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> !

Thank you very much !

We are really looking forward to the final, but when it starts it may be nervous all over the place ;) but if it ends well, everything is fine. The germans is a very strong and motivated team, so we have to be very cautious. And the last dance for our legends Hansen and Landin, where tears will be shed after the game ...

Sorry to hear about your chess and I sincerely wish you luck in improving your skills and results !

Now I am off to the local baker for buing some bread for the brunch this morning. All is well here and once again I send you all the best wishes for a fine day in Iasi and also hugs to you and to your dear wife, Maria !

Hoka Heys

p.s. did I told you how proud I was as a child, when my granddad told me, he had talked with one of the two guys who invented handball ?

Aug-11-24  virginmind: I saw parts of it and it seemed almost like a walk in the park for your team (at least, as compared with the match against the Slovenians). Bravo, Olympic champions, again! Ha ha, at one moment, after your goalkeeper defended a goal with his head, I saw your other goalkeeper cheering and making a gesture like: that's it, use your head!

And so we slowly reach the end of this very well organised Olympic games. Looking forward for the ceremony tonight.

No, you didn't tell me that, a very cool thing for your granddad to have the occasion to talk to that guy.

Have an excellent end of weekend.

Aug-12-24  virginmind: After yesterday's final count, I see we have the same number of medals, 9. Thinking about the next Olympics in Los Angeles, would you believe that Romania was ranked 2nd at the end of the Los Angeles Olympiad in 1984, with 20 gold medals and a total of 53...? It's true that the USSR and other communist countries didn't participate in that event, but still!

Hugs.

  moronovich: Good afternoon dear <virginmind>!

Yes,it looked like a walk in the park and they played the probably best match ever and got a very well deserved goldmedal. What a way to finish the olympics, as well as the closing ceremony was quite a spectacle to witness.

Wow,didn´tremember you scored so high back in 84 !! What an achievement, for such a relative small country.

Now daily olympicfree life has started and that is fine, for a change, but still bycycling all over the world ;)

All is well here and I send you all my best wishes!

Hugs

Sep-01-24  virginmind: Well let me salute you in this very first day of autumn, my dear <moronovich>, while hoping you are fine. I followed a bit La Vuelta for a change and catch the ending of todays stage, with that final having 2-3 bikers striving to get first past the line, who is that guy, do you know him - I mean, is he a well known biker, did he ever win anything before?

In the mean time nothing worth mentioning happened, other than, of course, the chess games, and that Maria left for a few days to Onesti. I stayed in Iasi because we have some problems with the AC on my car - it just stops cooling the air, out of the blue, with no apparent reason and unpredictably. I tried replacing the radiator, to no avail. I'm afraid I'll have to replace the compressor too.

We may go to Istanbul for a few days later in the month, if all goes according to plan. What about you, what have you been doing of late?

Hugs.

moronovich: Good morning my dear <virginmind> !

So good to hear from you again and I salute you too on this secon day of the autum, my favorite time of the year.

Hannah has just left for work and I have been to the local baker. Nice to have overcome such a little ride on the bike. And speaking of bikes : His name is Castrillo, a new star. Who is on a very small team which got invitied on a wild card. Just to book his first great stage win 5 days ago.A phenomenal achievement for such a rather unknown rider and for the team, as well, as the have only booked one stage win till then during the whole year.

Otherwise thing are ok/fine and on saturday I had the enormous pleasure to meet with my good friend, Jan, after a pause of more than two years (due to my whiplash ans ome other stuff). We simply just spoke for 4 hours nonstop, about everything. Like it was yesterday. With a lot of mutual friendship.

Sounds great with some days in Istanbul ! Hope everything will fit and that you may have a fruitfull journey. I dont recall, if you have been there before ?

I send you all my best wishes on this day without the Vuelta and I may even somehow survive ;)

See you up the road.

Hugs.

  moronovich: Thanks, <offramp> !

But I am occupied elsewere.

Sep-14-24  virginmind: Hi my friend! That was great for that Castillo guy. And I'm glad you've got to meet your friend Jan after a long time. But what whiplash you're talking about? You mean some health issues that prevented you to meet him?

Yes, Turkey is a first for both of us, and we're rather curious how it will be. We will stay in Istanbul for 5 days, hopefully a lot of things to see and visit.

I'm following the Olympiad in Budapest a bit, where the Romanian team isnt doing great, at least not in the open segment. Well, I noticed yesterday there were quite a few upsets.

Hugs and keep in touch.

  moronovich: Morning dear friend !

Autum is closing in, but the sun is up there. It certainly does a tremendous job.

I was hit by a bike, how ironically;), in 2005 and since then i I have had som kind of whiplash, which means increasingly during the years, difficulties with muscle and movement coordination. So daily duties and all other stuff takes more time and effort, but the spirit is fine !

I am also following the Olympiad a bit and occasionally a certain move or plan is interesting. Unfortunately, the danes are not that strong.

I have heard and seen (in televison;) that there are plent of things to be seen in Istanbull and a pint or coffe at the seaside with all the boats passing by, would be one of my first prioritees. Anyway I wish you a very pleasant trip, weatherwise and otherwise as well !

Today there is European Championship in bicycling, so I am a lucky potatoe ;)

All the best wishes, to you and to your Maria !

HOKA HEY

Sep-15-24  virginmind: Hi my friend, I am sorry to hear you had that accident back in 2005 and especially with those problems that have been following. I hope they are not very bothersome for you and also that you have the means to alleviate their effects (pain and such).

Yes, Romania isnt doing very good either at the Olympiad, but of course, I'm just sitting here noticing stuff while every player may well have his/her clear reasons for not bringing the best at the board. Maybe in the next rounds they will recover, both from your team and our. But, wait, if they will get to play each other? :) Oh well, I guess we already had this type of question on previous occasions and...we know it's something one can't help it, each will cheer for his own guys.

Yes, we're looking forward to some great time in Istanbul, hopefully Boris won't prolong its tale over there too and be finished by then.

And I'm glad for you being that lucky potato :) - by the way, I didnt know about this expression. Come to think of it, there may be a lot of them, specific to each country, of which we're not aware.

Hoka Hey and an excellent week ahead!

Sep-16-24  virginmind: In the mean time, the Romanian team improved its standing, at least in the open section, and in 6th round plays at board 4 against the USA. So far 3 draws and the remaining game, Caruana-Deac, looks drawish too. Not bad at all if you ask me...:)
