"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Dec-03-12  virginmind: hi <moro> and good luck for your scandinavian fellow in london! :)

  moronovich: Thansk <virginmind> !

Yes,London is a treat and I follow it closely, especially the livecomments with good english humour :)

And incredible that Magnus has 6/6 based on the openings he got...

The snow is kind of pouring down and I enjoy it,as you already know.I was born in a snowstorm ;)(indoors;).So life is fine here and wife and I are looking forward to christmas.

And you ? You talked about some dizzyness last time ?..

All the best <virgin> and see you up the road.

Dec-09-12  virginmind: oh, i'm fine, thanks. looking forward for some Christmas activity too. yes, magnus continues to shine and is already the best ever, rating-wise. and the broadcast is very nice, with all the guest top gm's commenting. here everything's covered in snow, but hopefully this winter will be less severe than the last one. all the best to you and your wife!
Dec-09-12  achieve: Ein sehr guten Morgen Herr Moro!

Fühlst du dich mehr zu Hause mit den Deutschen Sprache, or do you by now prefer English??

Funny to see the scandinavians talk german as well as they do. Einfach Super!!

Wie geht's mit dir? Is the hip that well by now you can climb mountains?

moronovich: Danke mein lieber herr Niels !

English is by far the best, also because of the CGeffect.

But I did a hell lot of hitchiking in Germany in the period 72-92 and do recall the german people as some very welcomming and easy to cope with. And in that period also getting an update on the german language on the level of getting by on daily basis. And yes the hip is very fine and it is
(at least in that department;) like being 10 years younger and a big relief. So thing are basically going fine and today wife and me are having a cousy indoor doing "nothing" day while London is waiting in the horizon,as well as the snow is pouring down which is such a splendid frame for this day.

And you my dear <achieve>,how are you doing these days !?

Dec-09-12  achieve: Well, the snow has melted, just for today, so I can go out on my bike without the fear of a heavy fall, and my Sunday sofar has been exactly like you describe your Sunday: "doing nothing", had my scrambled eggs brunch in my bed, and enjoying the silent and calm atmosphere with Lars. Great to hear you are doing so well, esp. with that upgraded piece of hardware! ;)

moronovich: Sounds like a lazy sunday in the best
sense of the word ! ;)

I am really enjoyng the commentators at the London Classic. Also because of the humoristic tone they bring. Not to forget all the big masters who reveal their approach to the game.

Dec-09-12  achieve: Yeah, Lawrence Trent can be very relaxed, boyishly funny, some may say irritating, and Nigel's sense of humor and treatment of language is always a treat. It's both pleasant and informing and I can easily leave it, the audio, on for hours.

I was disappointed at this so called GM insight, or lack of, in yesterday's game when they all parrotted Trent's over the top indications that White was toast, played so much easier etc., and I was thinking, well, I think it's bloody hard to win it after that big exchange, Qxe5, and after a good think Nak came up with the expected Qd7... Goes to show how complex the game is, and how my amateur insight and intuition can be quite valid, while a group of GMs wouldn't agree at all... Kramnik and Aronian both did confirm that Black should keep the bishop pair to support the connected flank passers. What a game that could have been!! As it was it was already good, but almost the game of the year...

moronovich: Fine insight on your behalf acccording the position of yesterdays game(of the day). And I agree that -BxN was premature and what a game it could have been with the bishop(s) on the boards! My impression was that a perhaps overeager Magnus was too fast on the tricker...Otherwise he might have forced himself into a position which would have been his territory aka squeezing and taking squares and Naka balancing trying to find only moves. But we will never find out and once again we see that chess IS a difficult and complex game as you have already mentioned. And it must tell you a lot about your strenght that you preferred the (seemingly) better road !?

But the haircut and the voice of Daniel King is always on top of the situation, nicht wahr ;)

See you "old" chap!

Dec-09-12  achieve: Daniel King does a great job, agreed, the anchor man of the LCC commentary team; very pleasant indeed.

<My impression was that a perhaps overeager Magnus was too fast on the tricker...> Precisely.

<Otherwise he might have forced himself into a position which would have been his territory aka squeezing and taking squares and Naka balancing trying to find only moves.> That was exactly what I was thinking, taylor-made for Carlsen to show his rare talent and skill. But still quite unbelievable how intuitive he still plays, all short lines of calculation, and play so solid and positionally superior, and hardly penetrable for a few years almost now!

Hope to see you again later today. Historic finish tomorrow?

moronovich: <Hope to see you again later today.>

I hope to stay tuned ;)And perhaps we could exchange ideas !? The most entertaining game could well be Mcshane-Polgar.. And most likely a historic finnish tomorrow !

Dec-09-12  achieve: I'll be back in an hour, 4pm, and then will check back here, also curious if Carlsen will already have joined the commentary, or already left! - coz I need to take a good walk with Lars, he is set like an alarm clock, knowing we need to go out around 3pm...

moronovich: Have a nice trip and give Lars a hug, please.

A dog on Londontime ;)

See you,hopefully.

Dec-09-12  achieve: Well - I left 30 minutes later, because I wanted to catch Carlsen's first half hour of comments, but the last half hour - it's 16:24 as I type this - I missed, so please if there's something juicy or interesting, please tell ;)

Back later on the games as well, Polgar has done exactly what Carlsen suggested I believe, and has some edge too?

Dec-09-12

moronovich: Hi again ! Me on a walk too and i liked your preference about Magnus. Right now I am eating and typing so just narrowly and I agree that Judith has a tiny egde.

Carlsen was frankly about many issues but nothing juicy comes to mind, for now ;)

Dec-09-12  achieve: Well, I remember some juice from the first half hour, will share later, as I too am having something to eat, watch a snooker final, and about 10 minutes after we came back the commentary with Magnus was terminated, and I have yet to take a renewed close look at the games. Ergo - back later :)

  moronovich: Good evening <achieve>!

I am just so happy and kind of exhausted as I really wanted to make it to the finals in the bookiegame and today, down to almost zero, I bet 500 on draw-Polgar-Kramnik and voila !! And what a roallercoaster in the Anand-Nakamuragame...again showing Anands aging I would guess.

Take care and perhaps see you tomorrow and enjoy your evening. This was London calling ;)

Dec-09-12  achieve: Good evening moro, very happy for Polgar, and you, as well... and just in time and deserved for a talent like hers, can't keep her down. And we still have an exciting finish tomorrow with Kramnik winning again, so a draw may not be sufficient to cap off a 6/7 tournament. That is, they might need to play a play-off, and that only adds to the excitement. ;) The snooker final is still going btw, past midnight here as I push the post kibitz button.
Dec-09-12  achieve: Thinking out loud here, will Magnus press full-court for a win against Anand? In my view it will be hard for Vlad to squeeze out another win, but that crazy fast talking tall Vlad might pull it off, and I fancy Magnus will fancy his chances in the play-off, assuming they will play one. Likely though, as both will have identical scores; 5 wins 3 draws. I'm quite sure the world #1 is eager enough and will take it, though Kramnik is looking better than ever, energetic, dare I say rejuvenated?

What a final tomorrow...

Dec-10-12  achieve: Morning, <moro> - actually I had the chance to watch this morning the part I had missed, from Carlsen's commentary session, and the subject of his ambitions came on the table, now that he basically leads the ranking by a landslide.... What is NEXT? What is left?

Basically Carlsen avoided the issue and words of World Title, looked uncomfortable, negative kind of bodylanguage, and in the end said that he just wants to go out "and have fun playing chess" - enjoy it, relish it - but if there was - and this is every kid's dream, normally - a drive and desire to win the title off Vishy Anand, wasn't even properly addressed, more like avoided, "put aside" - and I do not quite know how to interpret this. I briefly wrote about that at the LCC page, and it occurred to me that our norwegian boy-turning-to-man may not be as eager yet, or mature enough, to carry that weight of challenging and defending a crown in matchplay. Not yet. Carlsen wants to enjoy playing - tada, they all do - but why not go for the what used to be highest honor, achievement and decoration? Why not relay that ambition? Of course it's tough, maybe not exactly his cup-a-tea, but it is what every kid dreams off, no?!!

If you have the chance please read my post at the LCC page to find how I think such a title match plus defence, rates, compared to tournament play/grand slam events.

moronovich: Morning or rather good noon <achieve> !

Are we ready to rrrrrumble ;)?!?!...
Thanks for stopping by.
And interesting and relevant thoughts about e.g.Magnus and the highest titel. Also on the LCC page. And I do recall the seqeunces you refer to.
My impressionis/was (also based on the historic MC)that Carlsen is completely ready to have a go at the throne but when answering questions about it he doesn´t want to name himself favourit or something simular, you know : one move at a time, enjoying and so forth... But my guess/impression is that he knows he is the best so perhaps proving it through the candidates is what "worries" him,if anything worries him at all,in that department. But if he passes this test,I think he will be like fish in water about the limelight and the pressure. That he will act like a coldbloded gumman who fires at an old lady passing the street. The pressure will be much higher on Anand IMO. Had a long interview with Peter Heine Nielsen a little more than 3 years ago and without me asking any questions in that direction Peter said "Yeah, but Anand is also aging".Just a kind of observation,as something that belonged to the whole picture.Something that was unavoidable.Incalculated as a kind of bussinesrisk. But aka Magnus I might project off course. As like you perhaps.Sometimes it is easier to be in the mittle of the lampligth than were we are now as tense observers in two chairs hoping for the best but unable to move a piece on the Anand and Magnus´board. But as always, feel free to disagree.
And drop by today if time and circumstances allow you. Let us play/watch some chess,as the the sympatic old ringannouncer says in London!

Dec-10-12  achieve: Yes moro - Malcolm Pein it is, eh? Funny asymmetrical face he has - but back to Carlsen; he indeed also stressed that he is a very unforgiving player, a killer if needed - and in chess it is - so one moment he seems to have the knife clenched with his teeth, but you may be right he avoids title match talk, yet does so in a nervy way. That is fact, I feel, maybe I'll watch that bit again, closely. Anyhoo - I thought he may yet not like all the "hoopla" and negotiating etc. that (used to) come with the WCC matches, and you suggest that he may feel like a, wait, this is how you excellently put it:

<like fish in water about the limelight and the pressure. That he will act like a coldbloded gumman who fires at an old lady passing the street. The pressure will be much higher on Anand IMO.>

May very well be the case...

Play about to start?

see you later...

This is the position after 17 moves, white looks passive, atm Black's rooks are connected and have open files, yet my plan would be to aim for a f4 break and dominate the e5/f5 center, but meanwhile Black can do plenty to hinder that and play strong moves himself. Mags indeed removes the f3 knight to make room for the pawn....

What do you think, moro?

Dec-10-12
Premium Chessgames Member
moronovich: I am not shure about the value of the f4break,leaving the e4 more vulnerable, but otoh taking the transitsquare e6 from thef8knight on the plusside..(f4 followed by f5) A black knight on c5 will be slightly
annoying and if Anand could find the old tiger Magnus could be in for a hard time, though we are used to he can draw everything. Magnus is excellent with the bishops and Anand with the knights ;)

See you !

  moronovich: And now Re-b1.
Seems like we may have big fight in front of us.There is a lot going on,isn´t there. Draw 60%,White 20%Black 20% are my estimates for the moment. These clashes 2 knigths vs the famous
pairof bishops sometimes tend to create a lot of wonderful unbalanced positions..At least compared to the very dry technical endings.

Off for a short walk.
