"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

Dec-10-12  achieve: Difficult to defend imo - though nothing concrete indicating a Black break through either, and we may see Vishy try well past the 1st TC - and as I type this a draw may be agreed upon... Ok not likely, and indeed, Black's advantage looks to be more optical than anything, with that big black knight on d3, but counterplay is available as well, and with a white King nearer the action an endgame may favor White!

Interesting White pawnchain, time for a quick break for me as well.... Tough call but I would pick to play with black if offered the choice. I like 26...b5 (last played) - I expect Carlsen centralizing his King. . . .

Dec-10-12  achieve: BTW - the Nd3 has not a single square <to go to> (except when aided by a c5-break), yet it controls a bunch of squares... Saying it is "trapped" is perhaps taking it too far ;))

moronovich: Yes it takes care to park an almost trapped knigth at d3 like Vishy has done. But it can only be hit twice by a Rd1 and if Rd7 is covered there may always be b2 as an escapesquare it seems to me.

"Baby it is cold outside" and the clouds have turned purple with an irontwist which usualle means SNOW,more snow.I love it !

moronovich: And Judith with her handback.
Just such a feemalething.

In the meantime Anand has IMO done a no-no:opening up the position.

Dec-10-12  achieve: ...c5 was played and Magnus has indeed found the opening up of the position quite pleasant, and is clearly better, according to Judit and Lev... The speed at which they assess that, wow - and Carlsen is to me rather, magically turning this around, and from the web cam footage quite confident.

moronovich: <and Carlsen is to me rather, magically turning this around, and from the web cam footage quite confident.> Same impressions here. And Anand doesnt look happy at the board which he hasn´t done for a while. During the last months.

moronovich: And now -g6?!.The kind of move I tell
people not to make. But it is Anand.
Dec-10-12  achieve: Been out with Lars, extremely exciting still, but drawish now according to King, and off they go for the tea break. With Kramnik in drawn position this means the outright win is nearing...
Dec-10-12  achieve: Kramnik draw official, so Congrats to the #1 record 2860+ wonderboy! Winner of LCC 2012!
Dec-10-12  achieve: And Magnus takes the b6-pawn with the Knight!? - keeping the rooks on indicating he might have a "squeeze-plan" ...? wouldn't be the bloody first time he pulled that of... Anand is such a skilled defender, though....

moronovich: Its been a tremendous tournament and I have enjoyed it a lot. And a pleasure having your visits here !
I have to go for now and a draw would be the logical outcome in the remaining game, even Carlsen is involved ;)The d4 square is compensation enough for the missing pawn. See you, perhaps later today and post all the impressions you like.

Bye and au revoir& auf wiedersehen.

Dec-10-12  achieve: There are still a bunch of mate patterns, sir, that strike me to be of interest to a man like yourself!

hehe - let's see if Anand can keep his cool; it looks like he does, but Carlsen keeps probing and probing, and probing.... The ceremony can not commence, people will be loading up on alcoholic beverages, and that is all well ;)

I'm still closely watching this, these type positions are my favorite.

Ohalo!

  moronovich: Hi <achieve> !

Back again after seeing second half of the a handballgame with my wife who just had arrived from her office. So I didn´t leave because the game was a dead draw and you are right as there are several(difficult) mate patterns too. Well, were,Now we have move 53 and -Ng5 played.Still with an edge to white.Seems like the problems started with -c5?!.But a complicated game.

Dec-10-12  achieve: Good to hear you were up and about - and at move 57 I thought the retreat to prevent checks, rearrange, with Rb3 was the way to win, not the Ne8 check, but it wasn't addressed in the post game analysis -- but what I most enjoyed were those precious live shots of the two geniuses analysing together OTB, while they know the whole world is waiting, they just <had> to have that moment at that time between the two of them - and I tell you, some of the most beautiful lines appeared and Vishy mentioned that; their fascination with this immeasurable beauty and harmony is of course still there, and this endgame highlighted the beauty of chess in all its splendor, and Vishy although he used a simple tone, you could tell he was moved by what Carlsen attempted, and just had to tell the boys that, "isn't that beautiful?" (he said it at least twice) prior to Magnus joining them for the conclusion of that session. It was magic, and well framed, well relayed, and in every aspect one of the best I have seen, yet. Remakable mobilization of forces to organize, and a lot of "soul" has been put into it. Thankful here to have witnessed it like that.
Dec-10-12  achieve: Here are a few of my closing thoughts on Kramnik in a "in passing" comparison to Carlsen.

Let's be thankful that Kramnik mustered the energy and found again a way to use his enormous potential to give Carlsen a scare, and just a bit more luck would have seen him top the table. His post game interviews - read mono-logues - were priceless, very insightful, and it is clear that among these youngsters he very much needs some recognition, and mentions himself as an authority and specialist on quite a few occasions, but all in an endearing manner. He IS one of the greatest talents to ever play the game, and this fine performance and all time high ELO of 2810 is putting Kramnik in good stead for the candidates, that he has been preparing for a year already, so Magnus better be ware. Kramnik will peak in march 2013, and already has a warm-up event planned a few weeks prior in Zürich.

VK: "My form was close to optimal."

He'll be working on those last details, and will be a major threat for winning the candidates, for the simple reason that he will prepare optimally and in every detail, both mentally and also physically, realizing "his plan."

Rarely does the one saying "he is out to have just fun playing" has a chance against the one meticulously prepared in all areas.

Just my way of sending a prediction, perhaps a "warning"....

Morning <achieve> !
Yes,it is a privellege to follow Kramnik these days and the more I hear him the more I find sympathy. A very honest man and a guy who breethe chess. So Carlsen will surely have to look up for a rejuvenated Vlad
(as you put it)at the candidates.Which must be good for chess as a onehorse race is IMO not optimal.

The Carlsen-Anandgame yesterday was a thriller with a lot of hidden gems, but with a share of point as the logical conclusion. If anything if logical in chess, nowadays ;) But I did not follow it that closely as I was more in a watch and enjoymode. But it reminded my of one of the best blitzgames I ever saw at the net.Rook/Rook/Knight/Knight,pawns vs the same for the opponent and all the time they were threatening to give checmate(s)and parried with counterthreats and it went on for ages like that !Extremely difficult piecesetup IMO.Polgar and Karpov had a the same setup, perhaps it was Linares 2ooo.

So a tremendous tournament has come to an end and it feels a bit strange that 1500 o´clock is not set on Lodontime..

But life is big ,anyway.
With a couple og weeks to christmas, and one month to Tata and the candidates 3 months ahead. I would give Magnus around 45%-50% for passin the test,Vlad 20-25%. In an Anandmatch Magnus 75% and Vlad close to 50.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your interesting thoughts and opinions with me!

And see you around & all the best.
