Nov-15-13
 | | moronovich: trivia:According to Anands watch it is 18.12 in Chennai. |
| Nov-15-13 | | achieve: <-Bc7> Were there viable alternatives? But its very passive at first glance and Carlsen clearly plays with a Tempo up and better development/pawns, but the Ba5 was about to get trapped. I see your point of the strategy, but Anand must rank among one of the best in the history at manoevering Knights and Rooks -- problem for Vish is that he has 2Bs, and I preferred earlier the B+N combo. |
| Nov-15-13 | | achieve: Against any player other than Anand I would fancy Carlsen chances for a squeeze and win, but Anand just sees everything, possibly just as quick as Magnus, so Magnus must play insanely precise in these positions to wrestle a point from the Indian former wunderkind. |
| Nov-15-13 | | achieve: Looking at the bodylaNGUAGE/facial expressions Carlsen just knows and feels he is playing one of the greatest of all time, yes he dominated the tournaments, but Vishy is another proposition in these circumstances, and you can see that Carlsen's uber confident and sometimes almost disinterested demeanour at tourneys is just absent here. The kid is still growing up in an arena like this. He is very concentrated, possibly triple-checking many lines, unlike his "normal style". |

 | | moronovich: <the history at manoevering Knights and Rooks > Kramnik has sometime stated that Anand is the best in Knightmanouvering. And yes Anand under these circumstances must be,by far, the toughest opponent for Magnus. He(Anand)seems,as I read the livecoverage, much more in the zone, than
he does at the tournaments.
So baptism of fire for the young norwegian ;) |

 | | moronovich: 45.Bh7 is a brilliant move to keep the game hairy and alive.Still a tough battle ahead.Perhaps. |
| Nov-15-13 | | virginmind: Great Carlsen trademark victory today! Congratulations! Anand's gonna have two whites in a row so he'll no doubt press for a win. Now we're having a match! :) |
Nov-15-13
 | | moronovich: <Great Carlsen trademark victory today! Congratulations!> Yes, congratulations. And now the match hás really started with a Carlsen trademark Victory ! Let us fasten the seatbelts <virginmind> and may you enjoy the weekend! Interesting to sea how Vishy will react.Often he needs a Draw to regain his
strenght, but only a few games left. |
| Nov-15-13 | | whiteshark: Well, Anand stroke back the very next game against Topalov and Gelfand. So, grab your popcorn and get comfortable for the big Saturday show. :D |
Nov-15-13
 | | moronovich: Thanks for the reminder <whiteshark> and lots of popcorn to you as well :) What happened to your avatar btw ? |
| Nov-15-13 | | achieve: <my good moro> -- What a timely win at the exact right moment (as predicted) just before the attempted Indian Onslaught with two Whites in a row... In the PC Carlsen even mentioned the chances no doubt this will offer to Anand, but fact is that he is in the lead, must weather the storm that no doubt is coming, and if Anand gets nervous he can bag another point, if he can keep it tight and accurate. Clearly the Main Dish is being served up in this middle part of the match! Game 5 to Carlsen!
You just gotta love the drama and tension.... |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: <The Morning After> Looking back at the bodylanguage, Anand did to me to appear quite tense in the face, upon closer inspection; not the supple man he was ten years ago, and while he will be looking to win one of the upcoming White games I now suddenly doubt that he will make it, provided Carlsen keeps his guard well up and doesn't tense up himself.... But anyhoo, this isn't the rejuvenated Anand that I thought was needed to make Carlsen pay in a couple of games, and the balance has firmly swung in MC's favor, after outplaying Anand in the 5th hour of play (move 35)... At the pressconference C said it was "a bit messy" at times, and Vishy just looked a bit stone-faced. VERY interesting to see if the Indian super GM can draw from his home crowd, and prep, to turn this thing around. |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: Morning <achieve> ! Yes,seems like the initiave has swung in favour of the norwegian and it has to be seen how Anand will react to this. Yesterday and this morning I waas convinced that Berlin would be a foolish choice against Magnus and luckily (for Anand) we now see 4.d3).
A lot of manuovering is ahead and we may witness a long game.I am really looking forward to it ! (A Little bodylanguagetelling:I thougt Anands hand looked a little hesitant
when trying to settle the bishop on B5.) |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Hi Moro - just back from groceries for the weekend, and it looks like a RUY where Carlsen was forced to reroute the c6-Knight to d7 because the pin on f6 is really nasty, paralyzing Black's further play or ruin his Kside pawns... Advantage White here, Carlsen needs to be careful, and the Tiger from Chennai must start roaring, soon. ;) 11:30 here, one hour into the game |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Vishy may have three light pieces in a future attack on the Kside, while the Black b6-B can barely find a way back in that area of the board. Carlsen must therefore keep active ideas for the center, IF Anand decides to go for it. <Bodylanguage> I watched Vishy move Nd2f1, and it was not deliberate, or swift.... "kinda slowish"... or maybe I am imagining things now ;) The position though as White I would very much like to play, potentially hoisting up an attack with all three light pieces involved. |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: Hi´again ! After Bxa5 it seems like Anand MAY be forced to go all in with
Ng4/Nf5.
Still a longer struggle ahead where all 3 results are possible. So it is big decission if Anand goes all in now,but I tend to think he should. |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: < The position though as White I would very much like to play, potentially hoisting up an attack with all three light pieces involved.> Right.
"When you have arranged a date at a certain place, why not open the door and enter the room " |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: He has too, and the position is asking for it so why hesitate? g7 is going to be weak, his light pieces are not coordinated, the Ba5 shoul be on f8 or g7 - so Carlsen might be under siege in 10 more moves, or less. Nf4/Ng5/Qf3/rooklift - some scary "potential" there, and not at all easy to defend. I think g6 rather sooner than later is forced. |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: but Bxf6 is surprising and I am afraid we are heading for some very drawish endgames. If that happens I suspect that Anand missed an opportunity to go b4 and doubling the rooks on the a-file. |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Yes big exchange initiated by Anand, thank you, Carlsen says, and looking a tad better even in the endgame? Draw minimum... ;) |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Carlsen can actually make this a long endgame and exploit some of White's "weaknesses" - perhaps there will be a draw offer soon, we can only speculate... If I were there i would play on, hehe |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: < achieve: Yes big exchange initiated by Anand, thank you, Carlsen says, and looking a tad better even in the endgame?
Draw minimum... ;)>
Right on the Money ! Must be annoying for Anand considering the position he had a few minuttes ago.):
IF Carlsen wants to toture him which I tend to believe he will,it aint over yet.
But only 2 results they are playing
for, as you mentioned. |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Yes - here we see small improvements, waiting moves, chess at its finest! Just keep building and building, slowly moving up a rank... I love this kind of play, as well. |
Nov-16-13
 | | moronovich: < I love this kind of play, as well.> Me too :)
But from Anands perspective I think it was a clever move to trade down to a rookendgame one pawn down instead of just waiting. |
| Nov-16-13 | | achieve: Simplification and Carlsen is just a full pawn up, and can add pressure at will, this will be torture, might be a draw, but likely this will be more like a load of sweat for Vishy. |
