"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

moronovich: <rogge> Hi´and a nice day to you too! Hope you will have free hands to follow the games. And a 3 waytie sounds like chessheaven to me..OTOH I would also like to see good old Chucky running away with a topclassic that could testifie how great a player he really is and has been...my next thumbs up go to Carlsen and Nakamura ... So a kind of win-win-win situation ;)

Today Magnus will take his gloves off,so much is granted.

  moronovich: Hi´<brankat>

Well I am aware of Martin as a danish kibitzer with interest in the old players.

And btw : I came to know a former danish champion in the 8oties,Gemzøe,with a record in simuls vs Capa,Alekhine,Lasker consisting of 2 wins and one draw !!! And I dont know who got away with the draw ;)...it should be some record.

When we talked about Nimzo he said that it was IHO not difficult to draw him.A nice fellow he was and somehow our chemistry worked very well together, also on the chessboard.

Cheers and enjoy the weekend <brankat>,I am off for lunch at the seaside with wify !

in the range of 78-80 I think.
Oct-22-11  brankat: <...vs Capa,Alekhine,Lasker consisting of 2 wins and one draw !!!>

This would indeed be an enviable record for any player.

Way back in the late 1960s I knew an old man, in my hometown, Karlovac, former Yugoslavia, who played A.Alekhine during his simul tour of 1936/37.

The exhibition took place in The Town Coffeehouse, which is still there, I think.

Anyhow, sometime during the middle-game this old guy stole Alekhine's Knight, and lost the game :-)

moronovich: <Anyhow, sometime during the middle-game this old guy stole Alekhine's Knight, and lost the game :-)>

Lol!Sounds like a bad knight to me ;)-but was it because of this incident he lost or was he simply outplayed ?

re:Alekhine.Larsen once told me(1975)that there was an incident where A.A was leaving with a train.Carrying a lot of jewels in a suitcase. But his wife disagreed with his action running along with the leaving train on the platform. But A.A. slapped her fingers and off he was...Larsen said he had it from Sämisch.

I haven´t heard it from other sources, but Bent was usually well informed.

Cheers.

Oct-23-11  brankat: A.Alekhine protested with the arbiter and demanded that the game be either canceled or recorded as his win. The old man protested his innocence. So, inquires were made. It turned out the player wasn't so smart after all.

He himself recorded the game moves on the score-sheet. It was sitting on the table, in front him :-)

moronovich: <It was sitting on the table, in front him :-)>

I take you meant :" I was sitting..

So you wittnessed the maestro himself !?

Oct-23-11  brankat: No, no. The score-sheet the guy kept. It was there in front of him. So the arbiter checked the moves played. It proved the theft :-)

As You said: "He who digs... :-)

The game took place in 1936. I'm not that old yet :-)
