 | | moronovich: Hi <boz> !
Welcome in my little house. And still happy you liked the little story :) Well I met Schandorff a couple of times and find him a nice easygoing chap. And his books seem to be made in an honest and carefully way.Lucid and perhaps even easygoing like himself.. And its is good to hear you using the Queens Gambit as an attacking weapon. As it shurely can be and to my dying day I can not see it as being less "aggressive/dynamic" than e.g. the Ruy Lopez. I am of to duties, but may you also enjoyy the big match that soon is going to start. Cheers! |
|
| Nov-10-18 | | boz: Match is excellent so far moronovich. Hope you are enjoying it too. Glad hear that about Schandorff. So he is in person just as he sounds in his books. |

The match is excellent and completely open,so far, just like many of us thought and hoped. So may be it is great, that also we,the spoiled fans and spectators have a day off.
At least it fits me fine.Recharging the batteries. Cheers ! |

| Nov-10-18 | | boz: Indeed there is life after chess! |

| Nov-11-18 | | virginmind: Hi! Watching (moves only, and some commentary) the first game of the WCC was so cool, as the game took an unexpected turn, at least from what could be expected from a first encounter - usually a safe draw. Totally unusual, and all the more great. Two fighters! Well, I guess Carlsen a bit nervous that he missed his chances and continued apparently indefinitely to look/hope for a win. 'If I can't beat him, at least tire him and make him nervous' ;) And we also have the WWCC in Russia, and that other very strong tournament in India. All at the same time. Lovely. Started again to solve puzzles on Chessbase, but I had to start from the beginning, as for some reason I didn't find my handle on the list of ranks. I'm gonna ask the technicians on Chessbase what happened. Also, I bought a premium Subscription for Chessbase believing what they said at first that, due to partnership with World Chess, premium members will be able to watch live video of the players and Polgar commentary. That was not the case, unfortunately, by Chessbase only moves are relayed and commentary other than Polgar. Sad, but it's not the end of the world, I guess. Have an excellent Sunday! |

Nov-13-18
 | | moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> ! Hope you will get your matters with chessbase solved.Otherwise chess24 is recommended(though I guess you know it already)which is supposed to be free and with excellent commentary by Svidler,Sopiko and Grischuk.(As you can not join the ranks of Norwegian television followers ;) And the match, whichh started so sparkling seems to have found its own rhytm with a lot of safe play.It is ok with me,though I also miss the fireworks, but we definately have an open affair for the moment ! Patience is reguired from the fans and the players.Who will blink first?Best guess may be that something gonna happen in game 6-7 were Magnus has the white pieces twice in a row !?.. Otherwise things are fine and I hope to go to town tomorrow and say hello to good old KJ.Leaves are still leaving and nobody is in doubt that we are living in November. Let us enjoy the free day tommorrow and in the meantime I send you all my best wishes. With good health too. See you up or down the road.
Cheers! |
|
| Nov-18-18 | | Count Wedgemore: Four hours left to Game 7!
It will be very interesting to see what will be Magnus' approach to this game, <moro>. Will he be cautious, given his "almost-disaster" in Game 6, or will he go for Caruana's jugulars (altså et godt, gammeldags "balletak" som vi sier her i Norge :=)? |
|
Nov-18-18
 | | moronovich: Morning <CW>!
Good questions you pose.
After a long consideration starting around 30-40 hours ago, sic!,I tend to believe something in the middle is the far most likely.E.g. Queens Gambit with an almost risk free pressure. No 1.e4 for reasons you put so well, somewhere ells on this site.
Though he could very well have played it,if now was 2-3 years ago…. Same arguments for 1.c4 as for 1.d4.
Did you also notice that Calsens father said during game 6 that Magnus was in the best mood possible(perlehumør!) before the game? Interesting odds at the(money) bookies today:
4,60 1,30 10,00
A very interesting game ahead today as we get closer to the 12th.
Let us enjoy! |
|
| Nov-18-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <Interesting odds at the(money) bookies today: 4,60 1,30 10,00>
That's pretty good odds for a decisive game, I'd say. <Did you also notice that Calsens father said during game 6 that Magnus was in the best mood possible(perlehumør!) before the game?> It's great that Magnus is in such good mood! Much easier to get the head working right, and have the mental energy that is required. Positive feelings create positive energy. 3 1/2 hours left..
Yes, my good friend. Let us enjoy! |
|
Nov-18-18
 | | moronovich: <That's pretty good odds for a decisive game, I'd say.> Yeah, couldn´t stand the temptation and also bought a small Caruana ticket for my wife.So today she is italian, too ! ;) |
|
| Nov-18-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <moronovich: Yeah, couldn´t stand the temptation and also bought a small Caruana ticket for my wife.So today she is italian, too ! ;)> LOL. Well good luck to your wife then!
Me personally, I would instead go for the 4.60 on Carlsen than the 10 on Caruana (even though 10 is really great odds), I think. Then again, I may not be very objective.. I have so much faith in Magnus. But a part of it is that I can't stand the thought of him losing this match. The WCC trophy must stay in Norway, at least for two more years! |
|
Nov-18-18
 | | moronovich: Ishuerrly undestand that it is perhaps even impossible for you to counterbet on Caruana and it may from a emotionally point of money not be worth it.Definately.There is tension enough, already!Nést pas? I laid 100 on MC and 60 on Fabi and perhaps it will be more as we are getting closer to the 12th,were I am(more than) covered if it ends in a tiebreak. |
|
Nov-18-18
 | | moronovich: <point of money> -Sorry this is poetric nonsense.
Should read <point of view> |
|
| Nov-18-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <point of money> Well, that expression seems strangely fitting, given that we're talking about betting wagers, so I think you're allowed a little poetic license here, <moro> :) |
|
| Nov-20-18 | | virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, busy with some more work related activities, everything's fine, been following some WCC games, some draws were pretty tense as you could see. Chances are they'll go for the tie breaks. Hugs. |
|
Nov-24-18
 | | moronovich: Good afternoon <virginmind> ! Wife is going west today to see her deceasedfriebds gravestone for the first time..Meanwhile I am also going west,to London, were we shall see another sic!) draw comming up soon. And today a kind of non-game as opposite to the previuos one. So tomorrow, sorry;),on monday, the 12th and perhaps a new WC on monday, though a tiebreak is the most likely, off course. And I still have these 100§ on a draw and wont complain. But there are other interests for shure!
Struggling with some tinnitus(if that is an English word!?) after my teethpulling and otherwise fine and enjoying all these bits there are. Take care old friend and hopefully you will succeed with your writings!
And say please hello to Maria..
See you around! |
|
| Nov-26-18 | | virginmind: Hello, I finally found out how to send you games I've played online, it just occured to me that they may be saved by my Fritz 11 engine (so far I was only playing on Playchess server, but not by way of Fritz, as it's obsolete) and bingo: found all in the list it stored, including the last one played this morning with white: 1. e4 1 e5 1 2. Nf3 5 Nc6 4 3. Bc4 1 Nf6 2 4. Ng5 2 d5 1 5. exd5 1 Na5 8 6. Bb5+ 1 c6 2 7. dxc6 1 bxc6 2 8. Qf3 1 h6 2 9. Ne4 3 Nd5 7 10. Ba4 28 Be7 25 11. O-O 4 O-O 2 12. d3 1 f5 17 13. Ng3 15 f4 15 14. Ng3 TimeB 1-0 He beat me in the first one, but I managed to turn the tables :) Actually we were both short of time, but he flagged first - nevertheless the game was lost for him. Most of the writings are over and it's all right. In a few hours we will follow the last classical draw, sorry, classical game in London, and then on to the rapids. As had been said, I too don't care much about the all drawn situation, as long as most of the games were well fought. They simply are very close in strength, as their rating show it. Good luck getting rid of that tinnitus! And hugs to you and Hannah. |

Nov-27-18
 | | moronovich: Good evening <virginmind>
Nice to hear from you again, and on top of that a couple of interesting games I am looking forward to peep into. But it may take a some days, also because I have to locate my board and pieces on the second floor ! Autum has left and it is a kind of prewinter.A good time for those who like to see the dawn and not so good time for those who prefer the daylight which now is gone around 16-16.30. And in London ? Well moneywise fine as I bet o a draw, but chesswise it has been
a rather tight affair, but nonetheless I succeeded to enjoy it,also because of a marvellous coverage as well from norwegian television and chess24 from where I alwasy learn somethin,ot at least get inspired. Glad to realize that most of your writing are over and I can imagine it may give you some more breathing room !?As e.g. playing some games on the net ;) Tinnitus is better for the moment(knock a lot of wood)and wife is laying asleep like a cousy little child on the couch.Dinner is soon comming up and I beg you farewell and so long with hugs to you and to your dear Maria. Au revoir! |
|
| Nov-27-18 | | virginmind: Speaking of prewinter, I forgot to tell you that here is full winter since more than a week! Snow, cold, a bit milder since yesterday, but again very cold starting tomorrow apparently. And this after a strangely dry and warm weather for more than 3 months! Oh well, wonder what nature has for us ahead... And yes, London. Hm. What else can I say? Sure, a WCC game is different, expectations, behaviour, tension, you name it. Still, the oddest draw I've seen in a while. But starting tomorrow - what? I bet they'll also draw the rapids, heh. And then the blitz, well, something's gotta give. Of course, chances are Magnus will prevail in blitz. If the laws of probability are to be observed. Bur until then, may I fare you well, my friend. |
|
| Nov-28-18 | | Count Wedgemore: Goddag, kjære <moro>! Today's the day.. Kind of a potentially big day in chess history when you think about it: we may crown a new Chess Champion! In that case, only the 17th undispured World Champion in 132 years.. But of course, it's not very likely (Magnus is undeniably the favorite), but you never know.. IF Magnus messes this up today (he probably won't), then his premature draw offer in Game 12 will go down as one of the biggest strategical mistakes in Chess History. I still cannot get why Magnus didn't play on. I mean, he had a great position with a huge time advantage, and White had no counterplay. He could safely have played on and tried for more with little or no risk of losing. This is how I see it, <moro>. Do you agree? |
|
Nov-28-18
 | | moronovich: Hi <Count> !
Fighting something extremely irritating with my left eye,so just shortly:
After a longer consideration I am not so shure about the famous 12th.Svidler and Grischuk and Giri were "toying" around with the pieces for a long time but found no win,but only kind of o.5.o.65 pressure. So perhaps we are decieved by the machines to a certain extend and Magnnus being right that it was(too?)risky pushing further despite his time advance. But most likely like you mentioned:he will look back at the 12th with regret if he doesn´t maintain his title today. But all in all from a cost benefit point of view
he might very well have taken the very best decission ! But that being said:Why not 4-5-6-7 more moves? and then we come back to were we started !
If there is one conclusion it may well be that life is also a story of unfullfilled bussines.
---There was a bullit which came very very close to Adolf Hitler during WW1. I hope for a good finnish today and many feelings go to my norwegian friends and fans who undoubtedly right now are beginning to sit on needles! All the best <Count> and thanks for asking. And hopefully you will enjoy as much as possible. |
|
| Nov-28-18 | | virginmind: Congratulations, <moronovich> for having a fellow Scandinavian defending his title as world champion, yet another time! :) 3-0 in the rapids, wow, but somewhat to be expected if we look at his sheer rating in rapid and blitz... Fabi also deserves a lot of credit for keeping undefeated in classical chess after 12 consecutive games against Magnus! Good night. |
