"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

moronovich: <morfishine>Just take all the time in the world you need.but I am rather curious how it turns out and glad you liked the Counts fishsoup.

In the meantime I can recommend "This is the Sea" with the Waterboys-while we are waiting for the exciting finish tonight in St.Luis!

Aug-27-18  morfishine: <moronovich> Thanks for the musical recommendation....I too am looking forward to the finish in St. Louis, mainly because I've been hammered the past two rounds: I'm a bit "gun shy" now lol

I can hardly wait to roll up those pancakes, my daughter too, we love stuff like this!

Aug-27-18  Count Wedgemore: <moronovich> I saw your music recommendation and now I've played Waterboys-This Is The Sea on a high volume while making a little something in the kitchen. I found the full album on Youtube. Great recommendation!

For some reason, the Waterboys have always gone a bit under my radar. I've never listened much to them, although they've been played quite a bit on radio here over the years. But I liked it, especially 'The Whole of the Moon'.

moronovich: Hi <morf> ! It really gonna be interesting with this pancake story !? And I hope you will catch up with the Count tonight and stop the bleeding.I am seemingly out of it.Counting too much on the streak of draws would be broken ):

And hi to you <Count Wedgemore> !

I am really pleased you also liked the waterboys. They also went under my radar untill one day with a good friend on a irish pub.Et voila !It was at first listening kind of a friend for life.

Tonight cod packed in roasted rice with mashed potatoes and hopefully spanking to Carlsen or Nakamura (13:1), Grischuk,MVL and no draw in the So-Caruana game.

Aug-27-18  morfishine: Thanks <moronovich> for This is the Sea" with the Waterboys

I loved it and its a great introduction for a group I have not heard of, Much appreciated!

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> !

It has beeen a good day today.Started with a headache but happened to cure it by myself, sleeping it away in pure baby style !Think you know what I mean..And at brunchtime around 10.30 I saw the conclusion on the Carlsen Nakamuragame in a kind of liveexperince, not knowing the result beforehand.Had money on Aronian and Carlsen combined so it was a real cliffhanger ;)

And thank you very much for your mail, which was well recieved and kind of "funny" to communicate this way after all the months in CG style. Thanks for your greetings and also from Hannah back to you. I hope your weather will behave in a more trditionally and pleasant way.. Here it is more normal and I would describe it as a mixture of late summer and early autum.Something which suits me fine, but you know ;)

And about St Louis ? Did you follow it and have any comments !? I am still amazed how good the commentators are : Jenny,Maurice and Yasser.Great company and a most natural way to still learn more about chess. And the closer we get to November, the more even the two contestants seem to be matched. It may be an epic battle we have ahead.

That was it,and I send you all my best wishes and for good health as well.

Au revoir et bonne route!

Aug-31-18  morfishine: Hey <moronovich> Those fish-shrimp pancakes were fantastic! My wife and daughter loved'm!

I had to use the frozen breakfast kind (didn't want to make scratch pancakes today - too busy with job interview). I just thawed them out, them "mashed'm" with a large metal spoon, this forced the air pockets out. Then, they became more malleable

I had sautee'd shrimp with carrots and sweet onions in butter and spread the mixture over each pancake. Since I had mashed them flat, these were now easy to roll over and seal with no problem

I baked them a little longer than you said, about 25 minutes @ 350F, but this firmed them up perfectly. They were terrific! All 12 of them are long gone lol!

Sep-01-18  virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, well, mine never seemed to cure themselves 'baby style', on the contrary, if I didn't take the pills before going to sleep, when I woke up the ache was bigger and required more pills and took longer to go away. We're different, can't help it :)

Haven't got the chance to try that pancake recipe, but looking forward to. Wife's, again, at Onesti, alone and I preferred just to watch Flushing Meadows at home - regardless of Halep being eliminated in the first round. Some chess here and there and it all made up for a smooth ending of summer. Speaking of which, august was whole month without any rain, following a July with rain pouring each day (and night). Wonder what September has in its bag for us...

Yup, Saint Louis was pretty cool, as usual. I remember back in august 1994, when I flewn from an over torid&humid Washington DC, en route to Champaign, Illinois, we had to change planes in Saint Louis (we took a very small one) but only got to see that big arch from far away. And I got the first hint of how vast the US is, and how this influences the weather, when we landed in Champaign and got out of the plain, I was struck by a very dry and cold air (at least in comparison with 99 F and 98% humidity back in Washington DC) - the next morning it was 6 degrees Celsius in the morningthere, wow! Maybe only such huge variations in temperature and humidity, coupled with a vast (rather flat) teritory, offer conditions for extreme phenomenons to occur - like tornadoes.

For now life is great here, health...can't complain, and I'm about to start preparing some baggage for the Budapest campaign, to take off in a few days.

Take care.

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> !

St Louis finished on a high note.3 joint winners is not bad :)And now we only have 10 weeks till the start of the big match and I can hardly wait...Quite even they look beforehand-at least on paper-and I have money on a tie, were 5:1 is a good bargain IMO.

Seems like good memories you have from St Louis !?...And let os not forget the champions showdown, fischer random from 11 to the 14th with the old master himself! (There is b.t.w a very funny clip on you tube were Kasparov plays his first bughouse:)A must see...

No,unfortunately you can not go baby style with your headache. But I wish I could send you some magic stuff. Is your headache related to your MS ?

Curious to see if/when the new staff innfluences CG.As for now it is a bit ghost town like IMO.

Here things are ok and I enjoy the daily routines those days were the old body cooperates.Had some nice times with my friends last week and the comming of the autum is also apreciated.Weather is fine for now and we have it the classic way: a mixture of clouds, sun, wind and rain.Fortunately light years away from this extremely dry and sunny summer. Hopefully the weather in September at your place also will stay away from the extremes.

And you have some plans for Budapest,nést pas !?

That was all, take care my friend and see you down or up the road!

Sep-09-18  virginmind: Hi, we're in Budapest since Sept. 5 and everthing's great, weather included! Budapest is a beautiful capital, it has a lot to offer and we spent many hours strolling around. Somptuous buildings, statues and paintings, the Chain bridge over Danube which is close to our apartment, parks and thermal baths, all make for a memorable holiday...

I was watching a bit Flushing meadows and of course will look out for the Fischerandom contest.

I don't think my headaches are related to SM, althogh both the dentist and the ORL doctors said that I should check with the neurologist. But I don't want to go to her, because I know what she'd say, she would tell me to enroll in the program with interferon treatment- which I have no intention to, at least not for now.

All the best to you and Hannah and see you around.

  moronovich: Hi!

You guys are really good at travelling! And it is a delight to read your reports.

Flushing meadows was great, and when they play their best, nothing beats a tight five setter in tennis IMO.

Greetings from Hannah as well, who is busy but like her job very much.Good colleaques and good food :)And btw what is Marias profession,if I may ask !? Sorry if I has asked before…

I am fighting a tooth, which may be iflamiated, and hence the dentist must take it out if it continues):Otherwise I am enjoyeing life, inside my bounderaies, amd looking forward to see the countdown in St Louis tonight.Remember !

Weather is still pendling between autum and late summer and still a strikiking difference in nature, compared to the very long and sunny sommer which now is definately over.

Soon I´ll make our homemade rösti recipe and let me know if you mak those pancakes ;)

That was it for now and again I send you both my best wishes and looking forward to hear from you again.

Au revoir!

Sep-15-18  virginmind: Hi! Back home, and it was all so great! We stopped for a night in Timisoara, on the western side of Romania. Incredible fine weather continues all along. Such a long summer! Fabulous trip.

And what do you think of Parham (new world junior champion)? Could he prove to be the future contender for the Crown? Time will tell, who knows how soon. Anyway, there seem to be a storm of astonishing talents in the past years - such good news.

Have a fine weekend, my friend!

Sep-18-18  virginmind: Sorry, I've missed that: Maria is an engineer as profession, and in the past years she has been working in an office for international projects.

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> !

Sorry for being late, but have been laying low due to an irritated tooth.

Autum is here and it is nice, also with sunshine in between.Time is flying but also in its own interesting way.Tomorrow another olypiad is starting and it gonna be funn to se all the teams competing.

And you asked about Parham, and I definately think he has solid top10 poetential.working 10-20 hours aday on chess!?Holy cow-could be an overdose in the long run,but...it gonna be interesting to follow him and invitations are to come. But Keymer is my best bet for the future if I had to pick one. There is someting about this young man...

So Maria is working on internatioanl projects!? Sounds very interesting and good for the social health I suppose..

Madam and yours truly are off to get some pizzas at the local, but I want to wish you both the very best for the weekend!

See you up the road!

Sep-24-18  virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, just to let you know that in the next period I'll be kinda busy with work related projects, so please bare with me regarding the timely replies.

All is fine here. Sorry to hear about your tooth problem, I hope by now it's been taken good care of. Keymer, I see, I'll look him up. The Olympiad is starting today and I wish your players to give their best. Who knows, maybe we'll get to be paired against :)

Strong winds started last night and it seems that the Indian summer is over.

Your trusted fellow.

moronovich: Bonne giorno and god aften,my friend !

Thanks for the "warning",and meanwhile I hope you will find the best of energy to fulflill your obligations.

All is fine here too and hopefully I´ll have the opportunity to go to town tomorrow and see JWH who has spent 5 days in his beloved Berlin and usually have many stories to tell :)

Has been following the olympiad today and quite a few upsets I may say.So the olypiad fully live up to its own history! It could be fun if Romania and Denmark were paired and who knows !?

Wife is resting on the sofa and I am trying the best in the kitchen:Halfed potatoes in the oven, kind of chicken meatballs Greek style on the pan and finally a heavy dose of salat, greek style too.Topped with homemade zsaziki.

Bonne appetite and all the best wishes to you and once again:May you be blessed by the best working spirits !

Au revoir.

Oct-28-18  virginmind: Hello my friend, writing still going on but I just wanted to say hello and let you know that everything's fine here. Getting closer to the big match and of course eager to witness the clash. In the mean time, IoM is a very strong diversion, with practically all the top players, less the two guys to follow soon. The Romanians did pretty well there, especially Parligras, who drew three of the (very) top guns in a row. He's at 5.5/8 atm, so no realistic chance for the top spots, especially since in the last round he meets Aronian. The other promise did so-so, Deac, in fact he shed some points, quite unstable results. Better was the performance of Bulmaga, rating-wise.

Weather's fine today, but it was worse. Been to Onesti last weekend. I hope you're fine and send you and Hannah all the best!

moronovich: Good evening my dear !

It was very nice to hear from you after such a long break, which I hope you have used to getting closer to your goal. And please tell about the result if you like !? Still fighting the aftetmath after the teeth and nailpulling, but not more than I went to town with KJ and JWH last week, which was very pleasant. As usual:) Daily life is quite calm, but that is ok.As aged 65 I dont need the drama of the youth...But still looking for ward to the big match in less than 2 weeks. And the closer we get, the more even it all looks from now.But we shall see.It is a pitty you dont come here, otherwise norwegian television is absolutely excellent. They somehow how manage to put a performance together which appeals to all kind of players. And the thing which may bee fascinates me most is:That this is a event the whole (chess) world is watching and everyone is having and idea of how it may turn out!Every single move has an enormously importance.

Weather here is classic autum and I love it as you know :)Rain, sunshine and leaving leaves. The last hurray before the early winter.

You may also send some hugs to your Marias as well as I should send you some from Hannah too.

Moro is logging out but he sends you all his best wishes.

Take care till next time.

ps.Yes it was a brilliant performance from you compatriot,Parligras.

Nov-01-18  virginmind: Hi <moronovich>, well, I'm on the verge of getting closer to prepare myself for nearing the finish of the job related writing. Weather's fine but could be better, it was a full autumn day, if you know what I mean, and I think you would have loved it. More or less alone today as Maria is attending a course on...don't remember now but it's something related to project implementation or something. I ate some simple chicken legs with bread, cheese and tomatoes, and for desert something ressembling to twicks chocolates. I skipped the eggplant salad, as too smoked, so not good for some parts of my body. There's a dog barking at a house nearby since some two hours for some reason, making the wait for my wife even more difficult. He keeps the same tonality over and over, which drives me slightly mad. But I'm sure I'll get over it.

Coming to Denmark, hm, interesting idea, but how would I understand Norwegian spoken at the tv while watching the match? Or do they offer subtitles in English? Just kidding, I'll stay home and watch the moves being relayed. And I'll say to myself: hey, it's still better than getting the moves with one-two days delay from Baguio, back in the autumn of 1978...By the way, did you watch that match? Where were you at the time? At sea maybe? :)

Hugs returned to Hannah, from Maria too, and a charming evening to you both.

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind> !

good to hear from you again and hopefully the dog has stopped its monotomous barking ;)And I hope you will finish your grand project in a satisfying way!

Has had a couple of very good days which I enjoy immensely. The traces from the teeth and nail pulling are going to vanish.Except from the fact that my bodyweight is 2 teeth lighter ;) Well I remmeber the K-K matcg in 1978 vividly.First part in DK and then Switzerland,France and the final safely back in Demark again.A tremendous fight! And I will never forget walking down one of the narrow alleys in Geneva, and there in front of me in the window of a bank was a big demoboard with wooden chesspieces showing the famous adjourned position from the 13th game.In a bank,of all places !?!.. Recall how happy I was to have my little chees set with me and how I analyzed in a park nearby. Those were the days.

And,yes and no,unfortunately you would´nt be able to understand norwegian coverage in the same way as I,but I assure you that it is done in the very best way.And I can wait till friday, but not a minute longer:)Suppose you also is eager to see how it all turns out !?

Otherwise some quite days, but perhaps tomorrow I´ll go and see JWH.But he doesn´t know it yet :)

The autum is pure indian summer and a delight for the eye.We will enjoy it as long as it lasts. That was it.I am signing off and send you both the best wishes and greetings from Hannah as well.

See you down or up the road.

Hoka Hey .

OhioChessFan: Hello, jumping in here about the barking dog, which I hope doesn't address <moronovich's> avatar.

<There's a dog barking at a house nearby since some two hours for some reason, making the wait for my wife even more difficult. He keeps the same tonality over and over, which drives me slightly mad.>

I had a dog across the street, that had this rhythmic bark. 1, 2, 3. Pause. 1, 2, 3. Pause. For hours. You would simply have to hear it to believe how annoying it was. I had a friend who offered to take care of the situation for me. Fortunately, they got rid of that dog. Now, that same owner has an old hound dog she keeps on a chain 24/7. I have found this product:

https://www.chewy.com/safety-sport-...

It's the best product of any kind I've ever owned. When the dog next door barks, I hit the horn for a short time, and the dog stops. It took about 5 times for the dog to figure out the relationship between it barking and the horn going off. It seriously has changed my life. It still barks a little, but nothing like the incessant barking of years past. I don't know who close you are to the barking dog, I'm about 100 feet away and it works fantastic. I am sure <moronvich's> avatar is a perfectly behaved dog and wouldn't need such a thing.

  moronovich: Hi <OCF>!

I am not shure your are barking up the right tree. The dog in case was virginminds,or better put:in his neighbourhood. But I am glad you got relieved. It shurely must have been an awfull experience and perhaps by now you know, that repeating sounds are a classic part of torture.Litterally.

My dog behaves well and has reached a fine point were it doesn´t need a manual. We have a faithfull relation.

But it can still snap when it sees some unjustice or foolishness going on.

And do some barking when it detects someone going around in circles, just like the other dog.

Nov-07-18  virginmind: Hi <OCF>, I already had that issue solved, no need for the device you mentioned, thanks. And of course, I was referring to a real dog from my neighborhood, no connection with <moronovich> avatar.

Hi <moronovich>, project finished but looks like I still have to do some more this month. And yeah, the dog stopped its barking, eventually. I guess it's just one of those things one needs to get used to.

I'm taking a short break from writing though and looking forward to the big event to start on Friday. Some chess games in the mean time, wins and losses. Pretty cold outside, but sunny. Oh, and imagine this: it hasn't rained here since some three months. I don't remember experiencing this before.

I'm glad yu've managed to solve the tooth issue. And great remembrance of those moments in 1978!...In those days I was 14 and just started to play better chess, especially due to the training offered by a very good friend of mine who lived in the same village as my grandparents (from my father's side), near Iasi. And of course I kept track of the developing drama in Baguio. That friend of mine was the first to offer details about Fischer and Karpov would-be match, which was total news to me at the time. As a consequence, I became more and more interested in the games and started buying chess books, also got a subscription to the local chess review.

So far so good and let's see what tomorrow brings. Hugs to Hannah and you.

Nov-08-18  boz: Hey, Moronovich, I see you are a strong player from Denmark. Are you acquainted with Danish GM Lars Schandorff? If so, please let him know that his book <Playing the Queen's Gambit> was greatly appreciated by this humble wood pusher.

Perfect for my level and helped me dial up my Queen's Gambit from solid to aggressive. Suddenly chess is more fun!

The tattered condition of my copy will testify to the grip it held over me these past few months. Well thought out and better written than several chess books I have read by native English speakers.

PS: I found only two questionable lines in the entire book. Not bad for a repertoire style study.

  moronovich: Good morning <virginmind> !

The match is now only 2 hours away! Finally the waiting is soon over and the pawns and pieces will do their talking. The match is IMHO so even that anything can happen and perhaps it will !;)Both players looked in fine shape on yesterdays pressconference. And I find it deeply fascinating that the whole chessworld is watching and examin every "little" move they make, their body langguage their strategy and so forth...And we all have our saying in these spoiled times, chesswise,we live in.

I hope you will enjoy the break from all the writing and that you soon will have some rain.3 month should be more than enough ):

So your interest and motivation also grew in connection with a big chess championship match !? I think that goes for many as a very natural consequence, just like Fischer_Spassky 72,lured me to my first chess club!

Great!

I have some things to do,so I´ll leave you here and hope you will enjoy the first game and shurely we shall evaluate afterwards.

Take care and hugs to you both and greetings from Hannah as well!
